  1. @@calgarybride2015 Thanks for the advice. I have an appointment at Davids Bridal on July 3rd so maybe I'll find something i'm lookin for. Its a shame the second store wouldn't allow pictures because that dress was $650 as is (I would need to get it cleaned and hemmed aswell though). But it had no lace and not very much sparkle We shall see. @@vancouverpetunia Yeah I think I will try Davids in a few weeks. I heard Ethos in Edmonton is having a clearance sale of 80% off so I'm going to try and get there on sunday this week to see if I can find anything. I'm really torn with these online dresses though. They are so gorgeous and all the reviews are so good. They only take like 2 weeks to come in or something along those lines so I know I can wait on those a little bit longer. @@TinkerSofi Thanks, I think on July 3rd i'm going to see if I can book a bunch of bridal shops and try on more dresses around calgary. I'm going to find out if they have dresses in my price range first. My future mother in law had a good point that i'm much smaller than the average size so I might be able to find the smaller dresses on sale for a good price. So hopefully lots of places will have their summer dresses on sale soon. @@Danielle1 Thanks I'm going to try looking at some different stores around Calgary in a couple weeks when I get some time off work. I dont want to jump into ordering an online dress and regretting my decision to not try on more dresses. I think I need to be certain on the style before ordering online. These are the 3 dresses online that i'm debating on. All 3 are under $500 and would come custom to my size (height and all which is a bonus). I would maybe only want to alter the back because I love the lace up backs from when I tried them on on Saturday. Thoughts?
  2. Today was day one of dress shopping. I'm feeling really discouraged at the moment. I felt stupid at my first appointment. The woman asked all about the wedding date, location, style, fit, etc. but budget never came into play until I'd already tried on 3 dresses and that's when I clued in as well and looked at the price tags and was shocked. I really didn't want to spend more than $1000. Ideally around the $500 range. These dresses were $1800 and $ 2100 [emoji44]. Way more then I can justify for a dress I will wear for one day. I fell in love with a David Tuttera dress for $1800 [emoji20]. I felt a little offended when the store person told me I'd be better to look at bridesmaids dresses for my budget. Walked away from that store very discouraged. We called a dress shop closer to my house to see if they had any openings today. They did. They were really rude to me when I said I wanted to stay under $1000. Rolled their eyes and said we'll see what they could do. There was only 2 dresses (3 if you count the old lady dress they found haha). I actually really liked a dress there for $650 but it was completely different then the other dresses I fell in love with and so for that I wasn't 100% certain on the dress. So on that note I'm going to start from square one and start looking again. My problem is I love the lace dresses with lots of sparkle [emoji20]. I am also considering ordering a dress online as my backup plan. This is the dress I'm considering: You send them your measurements and it comes custom made. My mum had her dress for my wedding made by them and it came out amazing. Fit her like a glove and was even more gorgeous in person than online. So much to think about. 4. @@Danielle1 thanks! That's so exciting that your day is a few before me. Have you got your dress yet? I'm going shopping for mine on Saturday!!! So excited and nervous all at the same time haha. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. @@RivieraBride15 Here are the starfish sticks. I'm considering getting them too: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/204652433/set-12-blue-white-starfish-bridal?ref=favs_view_17 and these ones: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/204576747/ala-cart-starfish-picksstems-for-beach?ref=favs_view_18 I might play around with hot glue gunning some small starfish maybe onto skewer sticks or something like that. We shall see.
  6. @ No it was different than then Henkaa ones. It was basically a strappless dress with strap that could be tied a few different ways. These dresses on Etsy are way more versatile in my opinion. Thats so nice of you to buy their dresses. I've got lots of little gifts for my bridesmaids (jewlery, gift bags filled with fun stuff like facial cream and personalized shot glasses). I considered buying their dresses but it just didnt fit in our budget unfortunately. I'm paying the $20 extra for my bridesmaid who is plus size since it costs more for her dress. I didnt feel it was fair to make her pay more because she is larger.
  7. @ Thats awesome! I just compared prices (since its the exact same dress), and i think the Daintyard is $2 cheaper haha. I'm just happy my bridesmaids will only have to pay $70 instead of $150! Davids bridal had a convertible dress which I loved for $200!! This is seriously a steal!
  8. @@vancouverpetunia I like both dresses! You could totally buy the second dress and have one dress for the ceremony and one for the reception! Win win! They are different styles and perhaps your ceremony will ahve a more romantic and serious mood too it (dress 1) and the reception will be fun with dancing and mingling with your guests (dress 2). Just a thought! Also I'm with you. I think its important for us DW brides to get as much wedding stuff done during the summers as possible since one its winter its almost impossible to find summer clothes and decorations. Good luck!
  9. @@britxoxo I also did pocket invitations. Check out my planning thread to see my different cards. I had an Resort card (accommodations), RSVP to DW, Reception at home info, and an RSVP to the AHR. On my "accommodations" card I had the resort name, departure date/ city (as we have 2 locations of departure), my TA contact information, and website to register for the group rate.
  10. @@Mickeyb Yup I will send you a few emails as I have loads of different pdfs on the resort (spa packages --> hair and makup, music, extras, food, packages, restaurants, photography, etc.) @@Mickeyb Sent you a load of files!
  11. @@Mickeyb I am getting married there February 2016! We are hoping to do the free wedding package (you need 10 double rooms booked for 7days) and then we are going to pay to upgrade to the private beach for the ceremony and private reception. You do have to pay more for guests after 10 but it should say on the package list if you got one from the coordinators. They are well priced. We will be bringing a few things of our own to save on renting costs (decorations and chair sashes). So far the resort is quick to respond and really helpful if I have any questions. I'd recommend this resort this far. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. @@krystalball Its interesting that you say all the dresses your bm sent you photos of looked like blue dresses, because it was the same for me.I think teal is a color that you have to see in person. I found the oasis dresses at Davids Bridal photographed blue but in person they were the perfect color. Yet this dress is a slightly bit more green and photographs perfect in my opinion. Hopefully it will be that way on the beach too haha. I think everyone should get a convertible dress! Seriously the perfect dress. (As you can tell I'm very excited about finding this dress hahaha). @@vancouverpetunia hahah you're probably right
  13. @@TinkerSofi Yeah I think its something ike 15 different possible variations. Really you just sit there and wrap the sraps around you in any way you can think of. I found the strapless version to be the most difficult. I think you would need a second person to help ou wrap it. I'm excited to see how my bridesmaids will want to wear them! Thats such a great comprimise for your color. Thats why I had considered black dresses with teal sashes. I'm just glad I was able to find a "teal" dress that I loved! It will be interesting to see what the tie samples look like though. I have a teal, teal blue, and teal green tie sample coming in. So they should in theory all be different haha. I'm hoping the teal color is best because it was $12 cheaper than teal blue and teal green haha. All of my other decor for the wedding is variations of teal, aqua, and turquoise I think. So I think even if the ties and the dresses aren't a 100% match then it will still be okay. Its funny how when you are looking for certain things you can't find them and then when you aren't looking, they pop up everywhere.
  14. @@calgarybride2015 Perfect! Thanks! I'll keep that in mind come the winter!
  15. @@calgarybride2015 Thanks, I'm so in love with this dress. I just need to decide if I give this one to a bridesmaid or keep it for myself. Not really sure (besides on holidays or fancy dinners) when I would wear it. I will definately buy this dress in black and shorter version because its seriously so amazing! It exceeded my expectations. About the bridesmaid dilema... Thanks fo ryour imput. We unfortunately dont live in the same city. She lives in Edmonton so its not easy to chat all the time. She hasn't started her new job yet it doesn't sound like so I can understand wy money would be tight then. But I still feel like she's keeping something from me. The cherry on the cake was last week when she went to the Shania Twain concert and I know she got the best seats and spent over $800 on 2 tickets for her and her bf. I was really shocked because for a girl who can't afford a $150 deposit, how can she afford tickets at that price!!! Makes no sense. But who knows maybe I'm just unfairly judging her. She's definately helpful when it comes to asking her wedding questions. I really only ask her about bridesmaid dress styles (which she is really picky). But other than that I haven't really asked her much about the wedding. I more so focus on my MOH (my sister). I don't want to bog all my bridesmaids down with all my little wedding details. Plus my other bridesmaid is in Europe on vacation right now and just got engaged whilst there so I know that she wont be much help once she returns since she will be probably planning her own wedding. Once my tie samples come in and more dress samples if thats what i decide to do then I have to make my decision on this bridesmaids dress (a.k.a which color of it because I'm already sold on the style). When it comes time to purchasing the dress I'm going to straight up ask her if she is 100% certain she will be there as a bridesmaid. And if she isn't 100%sure I may unfortunately have to drop her so I can ask a different friend who I already know has booked and would love to be there for us. Its unfortunate when such a good friend can't just be open and tell me the truth but I get that sometimes its hard to. Hopefully I'm just over-exagerating things and blowing it all out of proportion and everythig will just sort itself out (soon hopefullly). hehe @@acw271011 Thanks! The dress is so gorgeous and way better than I could have imagined. Its going to be exciting to see how each of my bridesmaids decide to tie it for the day! I was joking with my fiance about how much I love it and that I was going to order it in white as a wedding dress haha. But really if someone was going to have a really laid back beachy sytled wedding it would totally work because you could even change it up from ceremony to reception! And...oh my gosh! Thank you for the warning! I will email my coordinater and ask her about this. I didnt intend on taking much sand since I'm really only putting a little bit in each of my lanterns with the starfish. My large vases will be used here for my At home reception because they are too heavy to carry to Mexico. And for that I will just buy sand at Home Depot or a craft store. @@vancouverpetunia No worries, It's definatly a gorgeous dress and worth considering as a bm dress!
  16. Ok, here is my review on the teal convertible dress on Etsy... I absolutely love it. It is such a versatile dress and I really do believe that it will suit most body types. It's a little tricky to tie at first but I think I've figured out at least 4 ways to tie it on my own. I think it would be easiest if you have a second person helping. I got the long maxi dress and I feel like it has a really elegant feel to it. Perhaps the shorter one would give a more beach/ summer feel. The material is a bit heavy but it feels so soft and silky. It feels like really good quality. It's a little too long for me so if I wasn't wearing heals I'd probably get the bottom hemmed. (I'm only 5'1" so it would be great for an average height). I'm also quite small and the skirt part had to be held up while I was tying it but really that wasn't an issue at all. But it could really fit a range of sizes and heights so it's amazing for that reason. (Also great if you lose or gain weight, it will pretty much always fit). This also means the bridesmaids wouldn't need to get any alterations done! Also it comes with a matching bandeau for extra coverage and it would make it easy to wear a strapless bra with it then! Color: it did appear a little more green then blue unfortunately. I was hoping it would be exactly like the advertised picture but it was slightly more green. Interestingly enough this dress and one from a different seller on etsy are using the exact same material and color as their teal dress. The two sellers are: Thedaintyard (Singapore seller) Dresslongbridal (China seller) The dress from thedaintyard appears quite green and like it has a higher quality to its fabric. However I had previously ordered color samples from them and now I have compared it to the dresslongbridal dress that I got, they are the exact same color and fabric. (Don't judge a dress by its listing picture haha) On that note I'm going to order a blue, Tiffany blue, and turquoise color sample to see if any of those match my color before making a decision. I love this dress too much to say no to it. I have 3 different tie color samples coming in and I hope I can make a match with one of them. Here are some pictures of the dress styles (ignore the fact that my hair is a mess and what not): Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. @@calgarybride2015 darn it! I was really hoping the legal side of things would be super simple haha (show up say I do, go home) haha. Thanks for the advice! I'm sure you'll be hearing from me when the time gets closer. Lots of figuring out to do for that it sounds like Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  19. Quick update for everyone! The sample bridesmaids dress came in....it's AMAZING!! I will take some pictures tomorrow and post! The color is a little more green than I was thinking but at this point if it matches the tie samples I ordered then I'll be good to go! I highly recommend the convertible dress though!!!
