  1. I'm exploring the option of ceremony at the resort, dinner/reception elsewhere. I checked out the Blue Venado thread and website. Is there any other place that is a little lower key?
  2. @@jrobbins3 Did you have any luck with this? I'm preparing to book with RRC as well, and also considering taking the dinner and reception off resort.
  3. Can't wait for the full review! Start writing before the details slip away.
  4. I went to an indoor foam party in Cancun and it was dirtay. As in the room was wet and carpeted and filled with drunk singles. I nearly drowned in foam as it was over my head. I went to one in DR in a pool and it was much less seedy.
  5. I find the idea of a wedding off the resort both fascinating and frightening. I've actually had some people who I have zero intention of inviting saying "oh cool I can use a vacation." Oh ya? That's cool. But it won't be my wedding. I need to have a sit down with my fiance to discuss invitation strategy.
  6. I hope you get some good suggestions. I made a rough list of my family, his, and all the friends I could think of for both sides that we would want to invite. The list is 100 people without his input. I'm sure I'm missing people. I know the "yes" ratio is a lot lower for a DW, but just like you I'm hoping to have about a group of 30. I've had so many people just assume I'm going to invite them. I think people have a false impression of the cost of a DW. I am thinking I might do my invitations in waves if I can pull it off.
  7. Cross post from a thread I found on Reddit. I thought it might be useful information. http://www.reddit.com/r/weddingplanning/comments/2zl6pf/a_message_to_those_about_to_send_out_their/.compact
  8. @@racht33 The only reason it worked for my friend is because she had a small group. I don't think it would work for me either. I love the boarding passes, but I think they might be too much effort and money for STD. I think I'll do postcard STD, and invite Boarding Pass only to those who seem interested.
  9. Every single resort I researched had bad reviews from cranky people. Including the ones I've actually visited and loved. My mother and sister both mentioned the reviews while in my selection process. My TA said it's one of her favorite resorts though, and I'd rather take the experience of a well traveled person than a couple of bitter online reviewers. The only thing I'm personally worried about is the location. Ten minutes from the airport is GREAT! But unfortunately that means it's not close to Cancun OR Playa del Carmen, so it's an expensive cab in either direction. But outside of excursions I only see there being maybe one day we would want to travel in to PDC, just to check it out.
  10. Let me know when you figure this out. I very much want a sky wedding. How many do you have on your guest list?
  11. Island time! I would send another email personally.
  12. There's a rash of bad reviews that just popped up on Tripadvisor, but I'm not too worried. The resort just opened in December and they are understandably going to experience growing pains. Most were service/food related which I forsee being resolved by the time my wedding rolls around. Also the seaweed, which it seems to be a bad year for. I'm probably going to retire this thread now that I picked a resort/date AND changed my user name.... And colours.
  13. I've found myself several times talking about wedding thoughts to my fiance without any starting introduction or point of reference and he gets confused and says "what are you talking about?". I guess I get so caught up I just assume he will KNOW what I mean
  14. My mother said to me about the expense of attending a destination wedding "well... We wont be able to give you much of a wedding gift" and it just broke my heart to hear her feel stress of the obligation. I told her just their being there was all I want.
  15. I have a friend who didn't mail anything for her DW. It was all electronic. And you know what? I didn't even notice until much later. It worked!
  16. Looking hot momma! Going back, my sister was married at the Old Mill. It was pretty nice. I still have half of a gift certificate for their spa. Think I need to cash that bad boy in for a massage soon. I can tell you're getting excited, I'm excited for you.
  17. I hate this old idea that the bride's parents pay for the wedding. I think it has kind of gone by the wayside, like a lot of traditions. But there is no way I would ask my parents to give me anything. I know how hard they struggle to afford their retirement lifestyle. Unfortunately we don't have excess money either. I'm just happy to keep things as no-frills as possible and I'll be thrilled if anyone joins us.
  18. Well. I think we have our decision... Drumroll please!....June 10th 2016 Royalton Riviera Cancun.
  19. It's the ol' sideways photos with your arm pressed against your body. That showcases the arm fat. Terrible terrible arm fat.
  20. Toronto for September 2015. All my Spring 2016 are higher, but not crazy high. I can give you the agents info if you like
