I pick up part-time event bartending shifts on weekends and I worked last weekend in the hall next to a bridal show. I obviously popped in on my break and although we were getting quotes from multiple TA's... I met another TA specializing in travel that said they could beat any price. I thought it was worth a shot so I emailed them our quotes and they got it down from $1389 pp for a week in Riveria Maya in April 2016 to $1289 pp... So now one of our original companies is trying to beat or match this. All I can say is that it's worth it to shop around and compare!

@@diadiamond @@Meandhim I was at the Toronto show too!!!! Can you believe the guy who won a prize and then got short-listed for the honeymoon prize! lol I requested a quote from them, it came within a week and both my fiancé and I have been going back and forth getting more quotes and asking questions. The agent we're dealing with has actually been pretty quick, we sometimes wait a couple days to hear back but they're waiting to receive the quotes on their end as well. We have been comparing what we get from them to others of course, so far she's done a pretty good job for us, although I haven't actually booked it yet so we'll see.

Wooooo amazing! Keep it up I'm at the gym at 5am every morning, seeing the progress (and remembering that I'm going to be on a beach for a whole week in front of lots of people lol) made me fall in love with the process. Every time you hit the gym or have a healthy meal you are closer to your goal. And even if you don't hit you're goal you are treating you're body right and becoming a healthier you! Good job girl!

I guess everyone is different. I was speaking to my soon to be MIL the other day and even she was surprised at how involved her son wants to be, and thought he would be happy for me to do the planning. Her advice was "be clever and let him feel he's making decisions!" lol When I told her about the guys suits and how he said he'll take care of it, she said that he'll come to me for advice soon and again just to let him think he's the one who decided. So I'll continue to do my research and when he doesn't know what to do or needs my opinion, I'll be ready

Hi @@Shaylala! Welcome to the forum! From what I've learned in my resort searching, Dominican will be more expensive than Mexico, and Cuba will usually be the most inexpensive of the 3. I've seen brides on this forum get a rate of $1100 for their guests to go to Cuba. We're booking in Mexico, and want our guests to pay no more than $1400. Because we've been flexible with dates (anywhere between April to June 2016) it's been easier to get it closer to that number. Good luck in your planning! Hope you won't have to compromise on too much because of costs

@@veryvalentine The post-it note board idea is so amazing! Such a great way to keep organized. Hope you don't mind if I steal this idea Don't worry about your dress! You still have a bit of time, and the feedback from who you spoke to sounds positive. I'm sure it will all work out and you'll look amazing!

You ladies are amazing It makes me think he feels like I'm trying to take over everything, and I don't want him to feel that way, nor do I want to come across that way at all. I guess I assumed that he would want to take a more back-seat approach, as he is generally really laid back and I research and over-think things. Even when we moved a couple months ago I had lists of things we need to do, who we needed to change our address with, and started slowly packing weeks before. He literally wanted to pack the morning of...guys lol he even said he's not stressed about the move at all because he knows I have it all covered. Because of that, I thought he wouldn't want too much input in the planning, which I don't mind. I like doing this together, except when he gets all bridezillo on me!

Hi @@acw271011 Sorry it's been so long, we've been working away to figure out these travel arrangements. I don't think my fiance's connection will be able to do the bookings for both although it would be much easier. We'll still touch base with him in a couple months to see if he can help, but it just doesn't sounds right. Right now. we are working with agents on each side, and since we're not picky with dates, we're finding out the best aka cheapest time for both sides to fly. Hope things have worked out for you!

haha Bridezillo! Love it. And love that he has the countdown app! He's in the travel industry so he's taking care of getting the quotes and correspondence with the agents (I was more than happy for him to take that on). Once we get our resort booked that's when the planning will get intense and I'll need to implement the bristol board - great idea btw! I love lists You're absolutely right - I for sure love how involved he wants to be, I just thought it was so uncommon and wanted to get the feedback of ladies on here. The girls at work that I tell can't believe how into it he is lol they think it's adorable.

Hi Ladies! So, I often hear about how a lot of grooms have a very sit-back approach to the wedding planning, maybe drop a couple opinions and are basically happy to let their bride-to-be take the reins. Not mine. I tell him that he's being a bridezilla as a joke. We are still getting quotes for our resort and date, and while I live on both pinterest and this website, I of course have so many ideas, but I am by no means taking over the planning. I love how involved he wants to be and it makes me laugh when he says things like "it's my wedding too!". The other night I asked how he thinks we should go about getting the suits since his 2 groomsmen live in the UK and we're in Canada, and he said "leave the suits to me, you already chose what we're wearing and this is my wedding too" same thing about the bridesmaid dresses, I asked what he thought and his reply was "I didn't get a choice" so I asked what colour he would of picked and he said he hasn't had a chance to look...LOL cracks me up! I do love that he wants to be such a huge part of the planning, he wants a perfect wedding just like I do, which is great - just had no idea he would even want to be this involved. Just curious to know - how involved is your fiancé?

Your reasons for having a destination wedding?
deecol replied to bcbride2013's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
My fiancé is from London, England and I'm from Toronto, Canada. We live in Canada now, and rather than have just his family and friends fly over here or have all my side fly over there we decided that we make it fair and have everyone travel. It's also a great way for our family and friends to get to know each other, and everyone is really looking forward to a holiday. -
Got my dress, narrowed down on a resort, can't wait to be able to update my profile with a date and location! It's all happening

@@caddiva21 I have a similar situation. Half my guests are coming from Canada and half from the UK. We've spoken to a couple of Canadian TAs and because of travel laws they can only book the flights for the Canadian people and negotiate a land only rate for the UK people. We want everyone to get the best deal so at the moment we are in contact with agents and tour operators in both countries, finding out the best price at the best time of year for everyone as we are flexible (any time in April-June 2016) and are going from there. Once we select the week, we will contact the resort to put our wedding date on hold, hold seats with each agent and let our guests know they have until a certain date to put their deposit down. Hope this has helped! Good luck and happy planning!

I went with my best friend for her appointment, including her and I, she had 8 people total. She has a big Italian family and some would be offended if they weren't there. She tried on so many dresses, and left discouraged and you could just see in her face how unhappy she was with all the opinions flying around. I went to the same store the following weekend with just my mom and sister and the consultant commented on how she normally would never let that many people in for an appointment but did it because she knew her cousin. I agree with many of you, it depends on who your close to. My experience was amazing, intimate, celebrated with a champagne toast when I chose the dress and went for lunch after. My poor bestie still hasn't found her dress, she still has a year and I'm sure she will!

I got mine as well and we're not planning on getting married until May 2016! I went with my best friend who is also getting married, she tried on about 25 dresses, needed a break and pushed me to try one on and it was the dress! I went back the following weekend with my mom and sister to try on a few more but went with the original one in the end that I fell in love with (and it was such an amazing price). I want to wear it every day! lol

@@acw271011 Hi! From what I know, right now my fiance's contact is going to quote us but he won't have firm prices until 11 months before the wedding (so June 2015, since we want to get married in May 2016). More than happy to share any info I can get - are you okay to wait that long for pricing? When are you planning the big day for? (I also want to make sure it's not too good to be true!)

@@Majix26 It's a tricky one! We actually found a travel agent in the UK through my fiance's contacts that can book everyone (both from the UK & Canada) all in one group . . . I know it sounds too good to be true so I'll keep you posted. And please let me know if you figure out any tips or tricks along the way. Happy Planning!

Thank you both @@kmk2016 and @@TinkerSofi - Very helpful! Did it end up being more expensive for the Non-Canadian group to book their flights separately? My fiancé worked in travel in London and does here as well but in a different field, he has a friend of a friend in the UK working on getting us some prices and options. And I've been in touch with an old school friend from here to help with the Canadian bookings. Could the two TA's possibly coordinate so everyone is at the same resort and basically under the same booking but they could sort out the flights separately or would that not work? (Hope that made sense!)
