Everly replied to Kerrierf's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
Oooooh! Thank you! That is good to keep in mind. I don't mind paying the taxes and fees(right now, lol), its going to help a lot since there are two family members we are going to need to help cover for them to make it down. You ladies are starting to sell me on GP that much more!- 318 replies

@@Mels84 @@Meandhim - Thank you for all the great info! Currently GP is on my list of possible resorts(Our TA is working on quotes right now). Question though. The 11th person free. Is that just for the room, the airfare or both? Apologies if that seems a silly question. I thought it was the room but then as its a whole package with Transast/AC you are booking suddenly I wondered if it was for everything.....- 318 replies

@@Dec2015 and @@JenniferH114 interesting! I was just talking to the Fi and wondering which date that others would consider their anniversary, civil ceremony if they did it before or the destination ceremony. We actually will use our civil as our anniversary date. We want to have an anniversary in the warmer weather and right now its looking like we will be going end of September/early October so if we do the civil early Sept it should still be nice warm weather. We live in Canada , and yes while sometimes its still warm late Sept/Early Oct we went to a wedding on Oct 2 one year and it was cold and rainy and just want to have less chance of that kind of weather.

@@hardyali Welcome welcome! Yay for Punta Cana! That's where we have decided on too. Just narrowing down the resorts now, waiting to hear back from our travel agent. Have you a rough idea of where you are thinking or does every new picture of a different resort change your mind?! lol. Congrats on your engagement!

I live in fear of lost luggage as well! Cause you know the moment you don't worry about it, it'll happen! And while I agree having the lower gas prices has been nice I heard on the news that if it doesn't go back up its going to make the loonie even worse compare to the USD. Why can't we have the best of both worlds?!- 318 replies

Show us your wedding dress!
Everly replied to Jennifer's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I'm so sorry to hear you had to cancel the the walk down the aisle the first time. Awful thing to have to go through! But yay for DW planning now! Honestly I think a DW is one of the best places to get away with wearing a red dress! I think it just means you have to be more careful with the color of the bridesmaid dresses which is not really a huge issue. The white dress is gorgeous too though. Its what you can envision yourself walking down the aisle in! -

@@JenniferH114 Oooh so pretty and elegant but can pull it off on the beach too! And the short one is super cute too. If you are doing a trash the dress you could always use the short one as well. -
holy bananas! That is crazy! Crazy! I mean maybe if they were someone who has hundreds of thousand of dollars. @@tygrrlily I loved reading your wedding review! The pictures are so lovely its nice to be reminded that even with a little rain it can still be amazing! I was totally eyeing some of your sale items but told myself its too soon before I kinda know what I am going to do.....still I may need to see whats left now(and I'm GTA so bonus luck for me!) And lol, the few people I have talked to about the DW I am always sure to tell them that its not all easy peasy and and super cheap! @@TinkerSofi Yay! So happy to be part of the club!! I have actually been looking at resorts for awhile and Now Larimar in Punta Cana is in the lead right now, I have already read most of the posts on it here on the forums. lol. As for travel agent, my soon to be sister in law is actually an agent, she doesn't specialize in weddings but she knows groups. I have been a little disappointed in her responsiveness and communication skills. She's back from vacation now though so hopefully she actually gets back to me now. But I sent out a few feelers to other agents hoping to get some kind of quote back. /lesigh I just can't wait to follow along with everyone's wedding plans, especially not that I am DW bride!!

Ladies you are awesome! I got all happy and excited reading your responses, just reaffirming for me that this is the way to go! @@beckys98 You are so right! Having this opportunity to bring family and friends together form different parts of our life is pretty amazing. @@TinkerSofi Oh man, when I think about trying to plan a wedding here at home I get a little panic'd, just so much falls on you and the different variables! Ahhhh! DW is definitely more simpler. And lol, that your fiance had to convince you! Happy you came around! @@rachelia160 Oooooh I like the idea of being a bride for a whole week! I normally am not good with attention but I think being away and getting to spread it out over a week will be nice and easier! Okayokay!! So today I brought it up with the fiance and started bringing up some of the lovely things you all said and guess what? He said yes, lets do it!!!! Wooooooooooooo!! I was so excited and bouncy afterwards. He likes that we will get more bang for our buck, he said that even if it costs the same as getting married here, it would include more time with the family and friends and especially our honeymoon! And of course it will be less stressful for me too, which he likes the idea of too. Of course afterwards I was suddenly worried that it would cost more then I thought he said "No, we are doing a destination wedding. No take backs!" lolz. I guess he just needed to get there and fully appreciate all the fantastic aspects of a destination wedding. ...oh man, its kinda surreal now. lol!! Thank you all so much again for your help! I guess I am official a destination bride to be!!

Hello to all the lovely brides! I've been lurking around for the last few weeks. Not being 100% on a DW I was leery on posting. I'm feeling a little more certain on a DW tonight though. Besides saying hello I wanted to ask for those of you who also had a reluctant FI, how did you convince them(or make them think it was their idea) to have a DW? I wanted to elope in Hawaii but the FI was against eloping, so its been either a DW or something small locally. Actually locally would be a 4-5 hour drive east to this beautiful ranch. Which would be lovely but I know it will be more work and stress for me (I stress and worry about putting other people out, that is just who I am.) A DW would just be simpler. I don't want to force it on the FI though, I want him to want it. I think I kinda got through to him a bit though tonight and pointed out to him, that even doing a smaller wedding here in Canada it would still be all that money spent on ONE day. But if we do a DW its TEN to FOURTEEN days for maybe 6K-10K LESS then doing it locally (Depending on honeymoon resort and the family members we will need to help make the trip). So for those that had to convince their husbands to be...any tips or ideas?

Thanks so much for the heads up! This looks like a great deal. I'm nervous about the idea of buying a template and getting invitations printed myself but it seems easy enough. And I was thinking of doing program fans for the ceremony as well so it'll be nice to save some $$$ across the board! Looks like its for US only but I'll watch on the Canadian site in case they offer something similar

Not to sound like a broken record but those are awesome! Great job and they look so professional! I will have to consider this just for the fun of getting to lean over and tell then person admiring them that they are toilet paper rolls. Hilarious and awesome at the same time!!

Oooh Mouse ears could be fun as favors. I would check on etsy to see what you can get in bulk and you might be able to get some custom made. I haven't see any "hats", just the ears on a band though on there, still fun though! I would not get them from Disney direct as that would be lots of money. And yes to getting a make up artist! Its your day! You don't want to be worried about it! Good luck on the search! Pictures at the Boardwalk will be awesome and so fun!! I like the idea of the wedding party going to the Not So Scary Halloween party! That will be a lot of to do together!

Our Disney Engagement!
Everly replied to rachelia160's topic in Share your Wedding & Engagement Stories!
Yay more Disney addicts! I love your engagement story! Beast's Castle is just so magical! I'm a little envious you guys scored some Fast Passes! We got engaged in Disney as well! On our balcony at Animal Kingdom Lodge. We had gotten some pixie dust when we had checked in and they upgraded us from a pool view to savannah view so we had some giraffes in the audience when he popped the question. He was super sneaky too and got it on video as I thought we were just doing a fun video for the family back home. Would have loved a Disney wedding but as you said its too much money(and you know a wedding would cut into park time!! lol). Happy it was the setting of our proposal though! It was awesome getting all the congrats from Cast Members!! Congrats on the engagement and upcoming nuptials! -
I didn't look into them extensively but there were some less then flattering reviews on yelp about them. And not just a "They suck" but detailed into what and how it went wrong. Of course there were some nice reviews as well. So maybe reach out to them and feel them out first before committing. Wish you the best of luck!

Credit Card With Good Foreign Exchange Rate
Everly replied to kellymiller's topic in Canadian Destination Wedding Group
I ended up getting an Amazon Visa card to use for our recent Disney trip. They don't have fees when exchanging currency..just the regular exchange rate. Also no annual fee. For every $2000 spent they credit $20 to the card (or something like that). It still sucks the exchange though -
Congrats on setting the date! And yay Disney! We got engaged there this past October. I would love to have a Disney wedding but it is so $$$ and I worried it would stress me out making sure everyone had an awesome Disney experience (cause you know I love it so they have to love it right?! lol) Wherabouts are you tying the knot? I have seen someone have it on one of the decks at Fulton's at Downtown Disney although with the current transition to Disney Springs that would probably be less then ideal. Are any of your guests going to be hitting the parks? If they are and never been or unfamiliar I would suggest including a chest sheet to the Disney parks in their OOT bags. Just a 'there will be lines, use the fastpass system, have a mickey bar..etc" For my bridesmaids I'm currently planning to get some matching robes on etsy to wear while we get ready. Just clear an hour or two in your schedule and search wedding favors in etsy and you'll be overcome with ideas. Congrats again!
