  1. Yeah, nothing is cheap! I think I've done 3 excursions in the area now. The first 2 were around $100, but they were longer days and included lunch. The last one was booked last minute and I think was $50 because it was shorter and they were trying to fill up the van for the day. You could check the tour group that operates out of your resort to see what they have. The last tour we did was great (included transportation, gear & snorkeling at 3 different cenotes and at Akumal beach). That was the same day one for $50. If you are a small group, you might see what you can get last minute if you're comfortable winging it.
  2. I recently received a thank you card for a (non-DW) wedding I attended a few months ago. It was from Shutterfly or something, with photos from the wedding, and was very nice. But there was no personal note. Not even our names. I thought it was weird. Is that common? Just a card with nothing handwritten or personalized? It was a flat style (mailed in an envelope) with photos on both sides, so it's not like I opened up a blank card or something. But still seemed odd to me.
  3. @@jeffandrobyn Thanks for the info. That's what I figured but I was hoping otherwise.
  4. @@TinkerSofi Not that it really matters, but if they are saving $200 at the other resort, but losing the $150 deposit, aren't they losing $50 in the end? Or is it $200 cheaper even if you factor in the $150 deposit? I agree - you have to stop somewhere. Some people just won't be able to make it work.
  5. @@has31 Please let us know the end result on this situation. I think we are all curious!
  6. @@TinkerSofi Why would anyone change resorts to save $50?!? Unless they specifically want to be separate from the group (which is possible). I don't get it. P.S. As much as I'm personally going for a more casual wedding, I vote for the suspenders @@ashhtayy Below is the last email I sent to our guests - about 5 days before the (real) booking deadline. We scooped up about another 10-12 people with this (out of a total of about 30 booked with our TA). I also texted a few people who had RSVP'd yes but had not yet booked. I played dumb on that... "Hey, just wanted to make sure you got the email..." (even though I can track when they open it!). Dear XXX, Just a quick note to remind you that the travel booking deadline is this Friday (May 15). Booking by this date will secure the group rate for you, no matter your travel situation (different departure cities, flight + resort package, resort only, etc.). Of course, you are welcome to make your own travel arrangements. Or, if you are unable to commit at this time, our travel agent is available whenever you are to ready help you find the best rate available at that time. However, please note that the resort is filling up fast and may sell out soon. Please visit our <wedding web site> for more details and, if you haven't already, please submit a preliminary RSVP. All travel details are available on the web site, and also linked to this email below. <links here> If you don't think you will be able to make it, please let us know via online RSVP or simply reply to this email. We'll be disappointed, of course, but we realize this trip isn't going to work for everyone. And that way, we'll quit bugging you about It Please contact either of us if you have any questions.
  7. @@Jc14 Not sure if you noticed that the original post is about 5 years old. Not sure if you'll get a response and it could at least partially explain the price difference. Hope you figure out something that works!
  8. I've never met my TA, even though she is located only about 30 mins from me. Or at least that is her office address. All of our communication has been via email or phone. She is a DW specialist and I think that has been helpful.
  9. Maybe contact the PDC/Cancun vendors to see if they can recommend anyone local? Sorry, I don't have any other ideas... Have you asked your resort/venue?
  10. Ack! It didn't occur to me that once people have paid deposits they may not pay the final amount!?! How much are your deposits? Ours are $250. So not a crazy amount but not chump change either. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Hi! I would love to see photos of your name cards in the limes! I am thinking of using limes in my table decor and have been trying to figure out what to do with name cards, so this could be perfect. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I have to confess that my fiance was a plus one at the DW where we met! He came with a buddy. But he did know the couple and was very close to some of the other guests (he had been a groomsman at the best man's wedding, for example), so he wasn't a complete stranger, just not close enough to be invited. I don't know if he was a last minute addition, though... I'll have to ask!
  13. I agree that many people have no idea what it takes to plan a wedding (destination or not). If you haven't been involved in planning a wedding before, it's quite a surprise to realize all the little details. And I think most guys, in particular, don't have a clue LOL. I think back to a destination wedding I went to a few years back. I probably drove the bride crazy. Couldn't figure out if my boyfriend at the time was coming or not. Although I did book by the deadline as a single supplement to at least get that settled. We ended up breaking up and of course he didn't come. All for the best in the end. I met my fiancé at that wedding Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Sorry to hear about the plus one debacle. Frustrating, I can imagine. Personally I think it would be perfectly acceptable to tell the friend that his plus one is more than welcome to come on the trip, but unfortunately there is no room for him at the wedding (cite issues of space, cost, whatever you like). As that friend I frankly wouldn't expect (or even want) to go to the wedding of people I don't know. He's just looking to hang out for a week at the beach with his buddy Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Edit: I assume it was a male friend, but I don't think you specified. I still think it applies in either case. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. @@cvooys - I will likely do something at home, a few weeks before we leave. We'll already have 2 pretty full days with our guests (wedding and excursion), and I figure they may want some time on their own as well, so I don't want to plan too many events. Plus we may have some people who can't come to Mexico but would like to come to the bachelorette party.
  16. @@snswedding2016 I love the clutches. I'm thinking of doing this (not sure if I first saw the suggestion on your thread or someone else's - would never have considered it otherwise). Anyhow, if I decide to go that route, I will definitely check out the seller. Thanks for the recommendation. I'm hoping I don't have bridesmaid drama! I only have 2 (including MOH). It's my best friend and my sister. My sister & her family are already booked. The other isn't booked yet, but I can't imagine that my BFF wouldn't come. They are just booking directly as they are coming from the States so don't have to be on the same timetable as everyone else. On Jeff's side, his 2 groomsmen are also booked, so hopefully we are set. My sister had bridesmaid drama though. She specifically planned her wedding in the summer so one friend could be there as she was a teacher. And then after committing, she bailed. Which just goes to show that you should plan your wedding to please you, because you "can't please all of the people, all of the time," as they say. The other 2 (one was actually a guy) were not super involved or interested, or maybe there was more drama that I don't recall. In the end she rescinded all of the requests to be in her bridal party and ended up just with me . I like to say she fired them! It wasn't as awkward as you might think. LOL
  17. @@jessiker05 I know exactly where this is. It is adjacent to the main pool. You can see part of the pool on the other side of the columns. I believe the windows opposite the columns are a restaurant. It's pretty spot and it looks great in the pix with the receptions set up.
  18. @@jessiker05 What is Las Lloronas? I don't see a restaurant or bar named that on their web site...
  19. Try searching this thread or reading back a month or two. There was some talk about the ceremony location for the preferred pool option. I think it's at the far end of the beach near the swing bar. I didn't see that area though when I visited. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. @@jessiker05 I posted earlier in this thread noting that I think the Preferred Pool would be a beautiful spot to have a reception. I was actually thinking of switching to it, but my FI is dead set on the Tequila Terrace. I've done a quick site visit to the resort and the pool is really private and pretty. I think when it's decorated and lit-up at night, it would be gorgeous. And keep in mind it will be dark out for probably a good chunk of your reception, so unless there is a bright moon, you probably wouldn't be able to see the ocean much anyhow. And the ceremony can still be on the beach. Best of both worlds? P.S. Have you seen the photos in the wedding package? I included a couple of screenshots here: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/topic/62152-now-sapphire-weddings-formerly-paradisus-riviera/?p=1894793
  21. @@calgarybride2015 Good idea and I'm thinking about this. I believe I can apply the value of any floral pieces against something else, if I don't want the specific items that come with the package. But I'm thinking of lots of little vases with only 1 or 2 flowers in each of them, running down the centre of the table. So I don't know that I really want bouquets on the table. Of course, I change my mind about every 5 minutes, so we'll see Something like this: (except spaced out more) (except not grouped like this)
  22. @@calgarybride2015 No, I totally get it. I just wasn't sure if "man! Maybe I should have scoped out their colors" was meaning "man! it was ugly" or "man! I loved it" LOL
  23. @@calgarybride2015 Do you mean that you also found Oasis a bit much when you saw it in person on a dress? Not sure from your comment and wondering if it's just me Begonia is beautiful (and also bright ). I didn't notice it in the store, though, as I was completely focused on blues/greens.
