  1. @Wafflesmom Always good to see another planning thread (and from a fellow Vancouver bride, no less). I hear you on the outdoor reception. That was a must-have for me, too (barring rain that day - fingers crossed!). Your colors are gorgeous!
  2. @@Kari26 I'm at Now Sapphire, so some things are similar but others are different. It seems there is generally a set up fee for most items that you bring on your own, unfortunately. For the bouquet, send photos of your ideas to your WC. She should be able to have the florist quote something for you. Often they can substitute for different colored flowers at no extra cost. I've found that most other things they are not very flexible with - take it or leave it and you are paying for it no matter what.
  3. Congratulations on your engagement! Those courtyards are beautiful. I can see the appeal. Unfortunately I can't think of any resorts with this kind of set up. I just went through all the wedding packages that I received from various resorts and none seemed to have this. Also thinking back to the resorts I've visited and not remembering anything like this. Not to say it doesn't exist, but it may be hard to find. The closest I can come up with are garden/fountain locations or chapels, which aren't really anything like those courtyards, but they aren't beaches or gazebos. I'm sure you will find something that suits you perfectly.
  4. YAY! 40 invites & envelopes purchased from Vistaprint for $33! (Groupon cost plus shipping). Thanks for your help, ladies. Went with the white version.
  5. Thanks, ladies, for your opinions on the invitations. Seems like #2 is the winner. @@calgarybride2015 I think I would only lose $2 on the Groupon, so not a big deal, but thanks for pointing it out. I wonder if I can apply it to shipping or taxes. Probably not. And I had only found a quantity of 100 for the biz cards I was going to use as placecards. I thought I might use the extras for something else, but I will see if I can adjust to 50 if and when I decide to order them, as that would be better. @@yycbride2016 Thanks for the tip on the local print shops. I actually have a couple of printers that I use regularly for work, so maybe they would help me out. Plus we have an in-house design team that I could probably persuade to design something in exchange for a bottle of wine I was also looking at the Avery products/templates. If I can get the background design, then I think I can adjust each item (for table number, name or whatever) and print them myself. @ These dreams are sooo funny! Not at the time, but certainly in retelling them.
  6. Invitations I bought a Vistaprint Groupon that I thought was good through the end of August, but just realized it expires July 31, so now scrambling to finalize invitations. Oops! Originally I wanted something custom off Etsy with a "papel picado" theme, but then I realized that most people don't know what papel picado is and won't likely make the connection to the small amount I will have hanging at our reception. I think I will cancel the custom Etsy order - haven't paid for it or have them start any work on it yet. Plus it will save me $60 to go with a Vistaprint template. Other issues: My colors are not 100% nailed down. Going green/blue/teal-ish, but have not finalized it. I wouldn't worry about it too much since no one is really going to remember if my invitations match whatever colors are at the wedding, but I was also going to order matching placecards... Maybe I will wait to order the placecards in case we end up going a different direction with colors. Not sure what to put as the RSVP date. Our wedding is April 7, 2016, and I believe numbers are due to the resort about a month in advance. Our early booking bonus deadline has passed, but the final travel deadline is early Dec (we're in Canada). I'm not mentioning the travel deadline on the invitation, as this info has already gone out by email and I don't think there are many more people who will book. I wanted to get matching table numbers, but how do you do this? I only need one card that says "Table 1", not 10! Again, will probably wait to order this. Debating between these two colors (same design):
  7. Argh! Sorry to hear about your booking debacles. I remember you posting about your future FIL. <insert eye roll here> Gosh, is your TA based out of BC, by any chance? Sounds very similar to our experience! Credit cards were not charged for weeks Took forever to get quotes on anything "unusual" She was away at another client's wedding the week our deposits were due All that said, I'm relatively satisfied with her service. Even though she was away that last week, she was online at least once a day and was responding to people directly (not having someone else take care of it for her). I was very leery about her absence when she told me, but she managed it pretty well. She also made us aware that any packages booked up to the final payment deadline would count towards our room credit, so that was not an issue. Overall, she could have been better, but she could have been A LOT worse (based on some of the stories I've read here).
  8. Quick Update We've decided that my parents will pay for the excursion so that should get booked this week. They said they don't need to be "advertised as hosting it" which will allow us to still say whatever we want in terms of a thank you to our guests. Also very excited that a friend of ours has offered to play a musical instrument of our choice for when I walk down the aisle. Could be sax, flute, clarinet, not sure what else he plays. For the Canadian ladies on here, he is the saxophonist for the Colin James band which some of you might be familiar with. I had thought about asking him, but wasn't sure. But he volunteered on his own last night [emoji4] I'm very honored. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. @@palmtree99 I love your dress. Very similar to what I want (although not what I purchased! long story!). Congrats! Have a great time!
  10. @@jessiker05 Regarding the lighting, I had to email Juan Carlos about a few things, so I asked him to clarify. He replied last night. I asked: "Is the included lighting that you show below just the one light? Or are there more? Do you think this is enough lighting?" His response was: "We will setup enough lighting on the Terrace in case you don’t want to pay for the special/décor illumination. No worries." Ha ha. I think I will just go with it and hope for the best. Answers to your questions in red below:
  11. @@snswedding2016 Thanks for the link to the honeymoon registry! A couple of questions for you: Obviously you are using this but are in Canada. In the FAQs it says you need a US bank account, but then further down it says something about PayPal if you are not from the US. How are you getting getting the funds? We aren't doing our HM at a big name resort, so we can't choose the option to have the money go directly to the resort. Do you understand the fee structure? I understand it is 9.65% that can be split/applied in a few different ways. Where I get confused is where they say "If the fee is added to the gift, purchasers can receive a 2.65% discount if they choose to mail a check directly bringing the total service fee to 7%." So, this would be an offline transaction with an actual physical mailed cheque to avoid the 2.65% fee?
  12. OMG that new outlet caused traffic jams when it opened. I'm not going anywhere near there for a few months. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. @@snswedding2016 Can you give more details on your honeymoon registry? I have thought about doing that, but haven't looked into it much. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. You've made some great progress and had some awesome finds. I saw all that stuff at HomeSense, too. I paused, but we're not doing a starfish/shell theme so decided to keep walking before I spent more money [emoji12] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. @@ashhtayy Holy crap that is expensive to get the clothes steamed/pressed. I'm glad ours is included (different resort). Although now that I look at it, it says "preparation of couple's wedding day attire". I wonder what that actually means. They probably just stick it on a hanger for you and leave you the price list for the steaming. LOL
  16. Wedding Dreams Well, I guess this wedding is officially taking over my life. I'm starting to have dreams about the wedding. I had a nightmare-ish one a few weeks ago where I was at the resort with the wrong dress, which didn't bother me as much as the black bra & underwear I was supposed to wear with it! Then last night, I was hanging out with @@snswedding2016 (!?!?) and you were showing me your wedding favors or OOT bags or something. LOL! I think we were at a restaurant. Jeff was with me, Sean was with you, and there was another couple too - I feel like someone else from this forum, but don't remember who. Not that it looked like you, not that I even really know what you look like hahaha (I haven't looked at your wedding thread photos recently!) But it was you. Hilarious and bizarre.
  17. @@ashhtayy You should double check with your resort. Our resort includes steaming/pressing of the bride's and groom's wedding garments. Can't hurt to ask...
  18. @@acw271011 Honestly we didn't look too hard or ask about slim fit at TB. Everything just looked big. Plus almost every white shirt I picked up looked nice on the front and then had ridiculous, massive embroidery of a parrot or a cigar or something on the back LOL, so we just left.
  19. @@acw271011 Yes, everything was on sale! The pants were $50 USD. Jeff's shirt was $30 USD. Not sure what the guys paid for their shirts, but they were marked down. The sandals were buy one get one half off (one guy bought two pairs), so they were $25 USD in the end. I think it came to just over $100 USD for each of them. Not bad! We did go to Tommy Bahama and we found that the shirts there were very wide. Jeff is very tall and slim, so he needs a more tailored fit. Depending on Doug's physique, it may or may not be a good place for him. I also didn't see the shirts in the store that I saw online, although we didn't look too hard once we saw how big the shirts were. I think I was also looking at a camp shirt in blue. That sucks about the sharks! Stay safe out there
  20. We also paid extra to hold more rooms/seats. I think it was $500 for 5 extra rooms/10 extra seats. The entire amount was applicable to our trip, whether or not we ended up using the extra rooms/seats, so it wasn't a gamble. In the end, I think we used an extra room or two and most of the seats. I also LOVE spreadsheets. I have them for the guest list, budget, boat excursion companies, photographer options, etc., etc.
  21. We are planning a boat excursion, but that's not cheap I did read somewhere about someone planning a "Wedding Olympics" activity. I don't recall what it entailed, but I'm sure it would be fun and you could probably do it at no or low cost at the pool, on the beach or on a lawn.
  22. @@ashhtayy Love your planning thread, your engagement story and the photos! They are gorgeous. Can't wait to hear more. Congrats!
  23. Update on Groom's/Groomsmens' Outfits We had a really fun weekend with the 2 guys and their GFs. Just chilling out at the campsite, eating, drinking, playing games, etc. Unfortunately there's a campfire ban on right now, but that was the only disappointment - although the weather could have been a bit better, but it wasn't horrible by any means. We hit up the Seattle Premium Outlets and scored right off the bat at Banana Republic. We got them all matching grey cotton no-iron pants (although they look rather brown in the photo) and we got the GMs light blue linen blend short sleeve shirts. Unfortunately the same shirt in white did not fit Jeff. We also picked up matching sandals for all 3 guys at American Eagle. They are very similar to the ones the GM is wearing in the photo above: http://www.ae.com/web/browse/product.jsp?productId=1215_6323_241&catId=cat4520054 Jeff ended up buying a different shirt (white) at Calvin Klein. No photo and can't find it online. It's cotton, but it's got a bit of texture to it that makes it seem linen-ish. They looked fine together. So we're all set! I wish it was that easy for me and my BMs
