  1. @@RandL2015 I totally feel your pain. I'm having a lot of that right now with my guests and we still have a month an a half to go. Like family who is supposed to record a my processional music. They were so excited to do it. They got the sheet music before we even set a date. A year later I think they've had one rehearsal. sigh... Sorry you had to change your plans for your day - that sucks! Like you said just focus on your and your fiancé and it will all be amazing! It's coming up so soon!!
  2. @@ELAINENYC I'm not an Azul Sensatori bride but we're getting married at Azul Fives and then honeymooning at El Dorado Casitas Royale!! We're really excited about our little mini-moon!! We've heard lots of great things about El Dorado - we can't wait!
  3. @@calgarybride2015 I definitely would consider that, the only thing is that all of the houses where we could do it are so far from where we want to have dinner. I'm trying to cut down the travel time. I think the office might be a good compromise and since we'll be closed for the holidays, I can actually go in ahead of time and decorate it a bit with candles etc. It does have sentimental value as that's where Sean and I met. @@Wafflesmom Thanks! I'm really excited about this dress! You are so right about her always being with me. I think she's getting excited about the legal ceremony too! We have another doctor's appointment next week so we'll at least be able to start nailing down some dates and figure out if we should actual cancel her trip. I've gotten quite of few things done here at the office today! ...but of course I'm adding to my to do list! Legal Ceremony -Set date for legal ceremony and dinner (after my mom's doctor's appointment), choose venues! -Marriage License -Finish legal ceremony script, confirm with officiant -Alterations for legal ceremony dress - Monday!! Mexico Wedding -Finish DIY projects ("S&S" letters, magnets, love quotes on vellum, escort cards, kids activity book) -Assemble welcome bags -Finish and print paper items (menu, welcome letter, itinerary etc) -Get additional centrepiece items (need more books, candles and pedestals) -Finish symbolic ceremony script & write our vows. Finishing the script tonight with Sean!! -Final dress fitting/alterations -Get additional luggage (find out updated luggage allowance from transat) Ordered the luggage through airmiles!! I'm really happy with the deal. Normally this set goes for 5300 miles but got it for 2650! It has really good reviews online so I'm excited to try it out! I also order a similar bag to the one that @acw27011 got! -Book Sean's parents flights to Toronto & hotel - We're pretty close to booking the flights, found some reasonable ones but we're just checking on a couple of details. Apparently WestJet is no longer paying TAs so now they have to charge a ticketing fee! I have to check with my wedding TA about this because I'm really surprised. Unfortunately we have to used a separate TA as we have a travel voucher from this specific agency, the downside is that this TA is not great at all! I'm so glad I decided not to go with her to book the wedding!! We did book the hotel today. We have them booked at the same hotel as Sean's brother (which is good) and we were able to get them a senior rate that comes with a full kitchen and sofa bed. I'm now considering staying out there with them the night before the wedding as it's so close to the airport. I feel like that way I won't be stressed about travel time. Sean's hesitant because his parents snore - LOL! -Finish playlist and start putting it together. -Write vows (how did I not include this on the first list??) I'm sure there's more ...to be continued.. I'm now off to go to David's bridal to pick up my maid of honour's dress -
  4. @@deecol go for it!! honestly, I've asked the same questions to the resort several times, sometimes to the same people and on a couple of things I have gotten the answer I wanted. It sometimes pays off to be persistent. I also asked my TA about room upgrades and for a while it was only if they had availability upon check in but couldn't confirm in advance. I realized she was telling me that just in case she couldn't get it. It is based on availability but with her certification usually she can get a room upgrade and for months I didn't think we would get it until July when it was confirmed. Keep at it - you never know what kind of perks you'll get!
  5. @@vancouverpetunia Love your wedding bands!!! My engagement ring is a channel setting too and I love it!!! Your honeymoon sounds amazing! I can't wait to hear more about it!
  6. @@acw271011 I've been behind at catching up on everyone's threads. I'm so happy to hear that your wedding was what you dreamed it would be!!! You looked stunning and everything looked so beautiful! Love the teaser pics! Can't wait to see more and hear more of how everything unfolded!! I'm hoping you get all your pics by the time our next GTA meet up happens!
  7. @@calgarybride2015 @@acw271011 @vancouverpetunia ladies, thank you for your continual support and well wishes! It has definitely helped a lot through these last couple of weeks, especially dealing with my mom's situation. I'm pretty excited about wearing my legal ceremony dress. The designer who made my wedding dress has agreed to do the alterations on the legal dress as well!! She normally doesn't take outside dresses for alterations because they are so busy but right now is pretty slow she she said yes. I'm happy to take it to someone I trust. I was hoping to find a private room in a restaurant for the legal ceremony and supper but I'm finding that they are all charging a room minimum that is just out of our price range. I think we may need to now have our ceremony in a separate location. Anyone have some creative ideas ??...keep in mind it will be in December. I don't really want to spend any money on the ceremony location as I would rather put the money towards the dinner. Our back up location is my office - it's free, open space and it's where we met. It's just not very interesting.
  8. @@JamieDonna Congrats on your engagement! I agree with what the ladies above have said. Picking a resort is the hardest part but also just the start of the process. I've definitely had my fair share of disappointments along the way with the biggest one just a couple of weeks ago with only 2 months left BUT I'm still so excited and know that a DW was the best decision for us. I'm working with a great TA Karen from myweddingaway.com - she's been amazing!! She is also a GI certified agent. She has truly been so great in helping me from day 1. She helped me do a breakdown from various resorts for the wedding itself to see if it would fit within my budget. We ended up picking a great resort that I had never even heard of. Let me know if you'd like her contact info. We're staying at Azul Fives which does have a sort of a lazy river but it is in Mexico. There are other Karisma properties though in Jamaica and the DR - I'm just not too sure on the price point.
  9. @@vancouverpetunia @@ashhtayy @@deecol Thank you for your kind words for my mom's recovery! @@ashhtayy honestly tell your guests not to worry about the monkeys. They are very friendly and so cool. They are actually really elegant and beautiful to watch swinging from the trees. They do get pretty close but they don't attack or anything. There are signs tell you not to feed them but I think a lot of the guests there ignore it. That's usually when they get really up close and personal. Yay for October engagements!!! With my DIY projects I pretty much looked for projects with the lowest level of difficulty that still looked pretty crafty - haha! I'm slowly getting them done one by one. The darker grey suit I think is the winner. Sean and I will be going back to Moores this week to order it! One more thing off the list. Speaking of which...(updates in blue) Legal Ceremony -Confirm with location that we can still have it there (did I mention Ceili Cottage is having permit issues with their Yurt...sigh) otherwise move to Plan B Going with Plan B - we decided we didn't want to have two separate locations so our idea now is to find a nice restaurant with a private room to have the ceremony there and then go right into dinner. It looks like we might have 6-8 people now. -Marriage License -Finish legal ceremony script, confirm with officiant -Find a nice restaurant to do a small reception with my mom and cousins (just in case my mom can't go to mexico) We have a couple of options. Going to call around today to see if it will fit in our budget! -Find a dress for the legal ceremony Found it this weekend! and the back It's pretty dramatic but now that we're putting more effort into the legal ceremony, I figured I could go a little bigger on the dress! Now I'm planning Sean's outfit - he doesn't want to see this one until the day of either so I have to put together an outfit that goes with my dress. Mexico Wedding -Renew passports Did it yesterday!! Sean came home from his bachelor weekend on PEI yesterday morning and we went to get our photos in the afternoon and went straight to the passport office. We were in and out of there in 15 min - it was the fastest passport renewal I've ever done! They said we'd have them in the mail by Nov 26th at the latest - which works perfectly so I don't stress out. -Finish DIY projects ("S&S" letters, magnets, love quotes on vellum, escort cards, kids activity book) Pretty much done the magnets (our favours) I just have to attach the magnets to the backs of the glass beads. -Assemble welcome bags -Finish and print paper items (menu, welcome letter, itinerary etc) -Get additional centrepiece items (need more books, candles and pedestals) -Finish symbolic ceremony script & write our vows. So close to being done the script! We're just tweaking the wording in a couple of sections. Sean's brother is our officiant and he's really excited to do it but after going to his daughter's wedding a couple of weeks ago, we're now wanting to double check with him that he's ok that our ceremony does not have any religious language. He is very religious and we are not, I don't think it will be an issue as he knows that but we just don't want him to feel uncomfortable about it. -Final dress fitting/alterations -Get additional luggage (find out updated luggage allowance from transat) I'm ordering some luggage with my airmiles that I've been collecting since wedding planning. It should arrive in time. -Finish playlist and start putting it together. We changed some of our ceremony music. We swapped one of our pre-ceremony songs and our wedding party song. We're now using "Yellow" by Vitamin String Quartet for our wedding party to walk in to and using "Wonderful Tonight" by Vitamin String Quartet during our pre-ceremony music We also took out one song. Sean really likes it but when listening to it last night it reminded him of an ex, he was like "I can make new memories of the song but it does remind me of someone" to which I responded "ya let's take it out...our wedding day is not the day to be reminded of other people" lol! We also just got the rough draft of our first dance song!!!! I can't tell you how excited I am about this. It is sung by a really good friend of mine who can't attend the wedding. We've been through a lot together and it means so much that she did this for us. Her husband is also accompanying her on guitar! There's something really comforting listening to a song sung by a familiar voice. She sent it to me I'll post the final version when I get it - probably at that end of this week!! The processional song is a bit of a different situation. Sean's family is still planning to record this but it is kind of stressing me out because I know how they work. They are so talented as musicians but they really are not planners...to give you an idea - I sent this piece of music over a year ago. I had this even before we set our date. I wasn't going to worry too much but I did set a deadline for end of October, thinking if they were running a week or two behind it would be ok. Now that we're officially less than 2 months away, I just want the song in my hands so I can put it into the program we're using etc. I think it's funny that they think we don't know how much goes into this...Sean and I are both in the entertainment industry, we do this for a living and we gave this to you a year ago! ahh!! Sigh...breathe! We do have a back up plan of playing the version I like that's already pre-recorded by another quartet. I would really love it if his family comes through though so fingers crossed. I heard my future MIL say something about having it by Christmas ....umm what?? we may need to have another conversation. lol -Make 'grooming' appointments Mom update We had the appointment with her surgeon last Thursday and it went well but didn't give us all the answer we needed. We found out that he really isn't the one to make the decision on whether or not we can push the surgery until January. According to him he thinks it's fine but needs to the approval of the specialist, which makes sense but the previous appointment with the specialist was a bit vague in terms of timeline. The surgery is tentative scheduled for the end of January unless we need to move it up. After that appointment my mom had to go into the ER as she was experiencing some really bad pinched nerves. She was only in for the day and was released later. They adjusted some medication so she is feeling much better. Now we wait to see what her specialist says. She has an appointment with him on Friday so we shall see. The other thing to consider is that she's been dealing with some issues with her eyes and I am concerned about her flying with the air pressure and everything. We talked a lot this weekend and we're agreeing that it looks more and more likely that she will not be able to go to the wedding in Mexico. Even if her surgery is in January, there are a lot of other things going on that I'm not sure is worth taking the risk. We haven't cancelled her trip just yet. We have up until Nov 22 to cancel and get a full refund (minus the deposit) so we'll wait until then to make a final decision. I'm actually doing ok with it all. Of course I'm sad she probably won't be there but her health is most important and I would feel so bad if our wedding jeopardized it in any way. We will be having a live feed of it that she can watch in real time as well as we're now making our legal ceremony a much bigger event than before. The size of it will be small but we'll be going out for a really nice supper, I'm going to get my hair done, get a little bouquet and we'll probably get a small one tier wedding cake (since we won't be having one in Mexico). I think it will be really nice that she'll be there to experience when we actually legally get married and be a part of something most people won't be involved in. Bridal Party Update I totally forgot to add this to my thread. We found out when we were on PEI that Sean's sister and husband will be coming to the wedding!!! We're so excited!!! They are staying at another resort but that's ok. We were really thinking that they wouldn't make it due to cost and getting time off etc but somehow they are able to swing it and they are also very excited. They got married 3 years ago but never took a honeymoon so I'm excited that they will be also have a vacation for just the two of them. They are leaving their kids at home! Sean and I talked about it last and night and now that we know she's coming we wanted to include her in the bridal party, so I have a new bridesmaid!! Yay! ....now we just need to get her a dress in time and in our colours... Luckily she has a local store in Charlottetown that she's friends with the owner and they give her amazing deals. Hopefully we can find something that works. We're going to do some facetime shopping ...gotta love technology!
  10. @@calgarybride2015 Thanks!! Sigh...yes, the tears....so many tears have happened lately. I agree though it will help me pass the time and keep me going. Today I totally felt like "okay, you had another melt down but that's done now. Let's do this! Game on!" haha my little pep talk to myself. I really wanted to renew my passports this week but Sean's going out of town this weekend. I reminded him he doesn't need it to travel within Canada but he doesn't feel comfortable (just in case). So we're going to do them first thing next week. I think it should be fine but depending on what they say I may just pay extra to go the express route. oh and not out of line at all- haha LOVE IT! @@Wafflesmom that's what I said too! Sean agreed after looking at the photos but it's funny because he thought that the darker grey in person looked more beige but in photos the lighter one definitely has that look to it.
  11. @@Wafflesmom thanks so much!! I told my mom she's got a ton of brides from across the country cheering her on! It made her day! We went to Moores today to order Sean's pants and vest. We have a group booking with them for all of our groomsmen but because we're purchasing and not renting there wasn't a rush to order. Sean tried it on but there was another guy there trying on a tux for a wedding in a light grey that Sean really liked. Unfortunately the lighter grey only comes in a rental option not available to purchase. We can rent the pants and vest separately for the week for $145 plus tax (which isn't too bad). After Sean tried both on I think we're still leaving towards the original option. I told Sean that I really want him to be happy with what he's wearing so we decided to think about it for a few more days. Here is the original option Here is the lighter grey in the vest compared to the original colour in the pants I think looking at the photos that the lighter grey washes him out a bit. He isn't totally happy with the colour of the buttons on the vest of the original grey but the woman at the store said if we found buttons we really like, she would swap them out for no extra charge! @@Smellsey I'm glad I'm not the only one especially because we're getting married 2 days apart...it's nice to know we're in the same boat together. I just don't want to be super stressed over Christmas but maybe that is unavoidable...
  12. @@Sam1214 have you looked at the planning threads of @@Wafflesmom or @? They are both palace brides and have amazing threads that I'm sure will be a great resource for you.
  13. @@Wafflesmom @@calgarybride2015 @ @smellesy Thank you ladies for all of your support and well wishes!! I will definitely keep you all posted on what happens. I'm holding on to thinking positive thoughts and hoping for the best. I finally got a hold of my WC over the phone today. I had a couple of unanswered emails and I've been calling her extension yesterday and today with no answer. I decided to call the main wedding line and she picked up! She was in a training conference yesterday and has been answering the main line all day today. We had a great conversation and went over all the details. I clarified my final payment date as the date online said Nov 10 but my contract had Nov 25...it is in fact the 25th and she said if I needed a couple of extra days that wouldn't be a problem. We also spoke about that negative review I posted about before - it was funny she knew exactly which one I was referring to without me having to go into many specifics. I told her that I took it all with a grain of salt (especially with how so many things she was complaining about were beyond the hotels control) but that I did want to go over a couple of things that did concern me a little and we talked it through and it's all fine. One of the them was about the number of people per table. I had confirmed that 10 people would be fine at the round tables and my WC said they will fit but it is a bit tight. She recommended 8-9 as being ideal. Most of my tables of 10 have kids and she said that would be fine. Just an FYI for other Azul Fives brides. I'm getting excited about my bachelorette. The spa appointments have been booked and apparently we're making several stops on the way to Niagara...I'm very curious where we're going. I know shopping is one of them but I'm not sure what else. I'm so nosey....lol I had a bit of a melt down last night with Sean. I've been feeling a lot of emotions right now and feel pretty stressed with the amount of planning left to do as well as everything going on with my mom. Poor Sean - I kind of took it out on him a little. I do need more help from him but planning really isn't his thing. He's great once he's there and can see it in front of him and he's all about making decisions. Like when we were there at the end of Sept, he was amazing! Right now though I do need so more help from him with the little things and he is trying but I kinda freaked out a bit last night. I think I'm just looking at the to do list and wanting to tear out my hair a little...this is normal at the 2 month mark right?!? Here is my to do list... 14. Updates Sorry I've been so MIA on the forums lately. It's been a hectic and stressful couple of weeks. Sean and I went to PEI for a family wedding at the end of Oct and while we were gone I got some not so great news. My mom who has been dealing with a bunch of different health issues got the news that she will need to go on dialysis. We had a feeling that this would most likely be in the cards down the road but we really didn't think it would be happening this soon especially with the wedding only being 2 months away. We don't know exactly when it will happen and when she will have the surgery to get set up for it so we're in a bit of a holding pattern until then. It may get pushed until after the new year but even if it does I'm not sure if it is a good idea for her to travel before then. We have to talk to her doctors about it and make a decision. I'm pretty heartbroken about this. My mom and I are very close and beyond the fact that I of course want her there, this vacation would have been so good for her. Selfishly I really want her to be there but we'll have to see what is best for her health. We're both trying to stay positive in the meantime but it has been hard. With only 2 months left and a lot of little things to do I'm finding it very difficult to stay motivated to do it. I'm still so excited for the wedding but it's feeling really bittersweet at the moment. I definitely have moments of extreme guilt that we're having a destination wedding. Right now we're trying to create a plan B where we make the legal ceremony a little bigger than we initially planned so that she can be a part of that in case she can't make it to Mexico. We have a consultation with the surgeon on Thursday so we'll hopefully have a better idea at that point. Our final payments are due on Fri Nov 6...although my TA told everyone that the deadline was last Friday so we basically have our numbers. We have 47 adults, 9 kids plus 4 adults off resort (including me and Sean). I'm very happy with our numbers - they are higher than I thought they would be but exactly how many my TA said to budget for (she's good!). We may have 2 more people replace two people who cancelled so we'll know by Friday if they are in or not. I'm waiting to hear back from my WC at Karisma. I'm feeling a little anxious as my final payment for the resort is due on the 10th and I still have a lot of outstanding items to confirm. I've left her a voicemail today so hopefully she gets back to me soon! I'm having a spa day with my maids of honour this sunday (while Sean's away on his PEI Bachelor weekend -yes, he's going back even though we were just there last week.). We're going to finish putting together my welcome bags. I still need to finish our paper products but I need to confirm details with my WC so we'll see if I can get that done by the weekend. My bachelorette party is now set for the last weekend in Nov and I'm going away with my bridesmaids to Niagara Falls. We're going to do some shopping, a spa day and some partying! It should be fun! Those are all the updates so far! Fingers crossed that my mom starts feeling better and that she'll be able to come to the wedding.
  15. I'm good for Dec 4 as well and I've talked to the restaurant/bar that Sean was working on and made a reservation for 10 people on Dec 4 for 5pm. How many people could get there for 5/5:30pm? Here is the place at Queen and Peter - does this place look ok to you guys? I'm open as well. http://www.blogto.com/restaurants/bar-hop-brewco-toronto
  16. So you know when you have that moment when you come across a negative review about your resort and your heart starts racing, wondering how much of it is true, how much is personal experience and how much is the way it was handled on either side? I had that moment tonight and I'm not going to lie I started panicking a little, not that we made the wrong decision but that our guests wouldn't be happy or things wouldn't go according to plan. ...Well the truth is, rarely in life do things go exactly according to plan and after I had a mini freak out I remembered: 1. I was just there in September and it was AMAZING!!! 2. I can't do anything about things out of my control 3. Sean and I are getting married in front of our close friends and family! ...enough said! 19. @@Meandhim @ I'm thinking of getting a base coat too before I leave...mainly because I still have tan lines from 2 years ago (i'm not even kidding). I think I mentioned my 'headlights'(as Sean likes to call them) at our last GTA meet up. They just never see the light of day and the tan lines will show with my dress. I also have this really great sunscreen it's only SPF 30 but I tested it out in Sept when I was there and I didn't burn at all and I usually burn pretty easily. I was a lobster at my cousin's DW. The ingredients are also really safe to use (one of the few that they let into ecological parks like Xcaret). It's a little pricier but I think it's worth it not to get a burn. Let me know if you want more info and I can PM you the details!
  20. It's your day today!!! I hope you are having the best day so far and I can't wait to hear all about it and see the pics!!
  21. @ @@calgarybride2015 @@Wafflesmom thanks ladies!! I love magnets too! I keep running out of them with all the cards on our fridge so we figured most people will hopefully get some use out of these favours. We're thinking of just putting them out on our guestbook/escort card table and people can go pick out their favourite word to take home.
  22. Here is a pic of the guestbook my girls made for me for my shower. They had set up a backdrop and all my guests took pics with the instamax polaroid and each made a page in my book. I love it! There are some empty pages so I'm going to print some pics from the shower and put them in the album. Favours We've been going back and forth on ideas for our favours. We're doing welcome bags but wanted to do something small for the reception that kept with our love story theme. I really wanted to do book page bookmarks but found the only way to make them durable is to laminate them and I always finds it makes it look a bit too shiny and a little cheap looking. So we mulled over a couple ideas when I found these really cute dictionary magnets and both Sean and I loved them! They are super easy to make. All you need is a dictionary some glass beads (I went for the larger ones in the mosaic aisle in Michaels), decoupage glue and some magnets! I really love the way they turned out. I originally bought strip magnet because it was cheaper and hoped it would be strong enough....not so much. I'm going to have to go back to Michaels and get the stronger circular magnets. I've done about 2/3 of the magnets I need. Here is the first batch:

  24. Thanks ladies!! It really was a great day!! My mom is feeling much better today...of course...murphy's law. It's all good though- I'm glad she's feeling better and I gave her a play by play of what happened yesterday. @@Wafflesmom @@calgarybride2015 haha I knew some of you might be curious - they are "silicone advanced nipple suckers"...there was also a throat numbing spray in that gift bag (am I even allowed to write about these things on this forum?!? Sorry if that was too vulgar!). Needless to say I turned a bit red with my 90 year old grandma watching me open this gift and we all had a good laugh!
  25. Bridal Shower So today was my bridal shower!!! It was such a great day but it did start off kind of rocky and with disappointment. My mom who was really excited about my shower and helping out woke up this morning with the flu. She thought she could fight through it but half an hour later was really feeling terrible. I understood and felt so bad because I know how excited she was and really I did want her to rest and feel better but I was really bummed out and disappointed that my mom wouldn't be at my shower. I haven't had any wedding events leading up till now so I was really looking forward to this and having her there as well. I decided to shake off the initial disappointment and tried to focus on the fact that it would still be a great day and it would be better with her resting up rather than trying to fight through a flu at a party. Once I got there it was great. My maids of honour did a beautiful job decorating and planning the whole thing. One of them wanted to plan a Mexican themed shower and well the other one...she's actually Mexican. You can see how the planning got "interesting" at certain points (which I'm hearing about now). They agreed on a subtle Mexican theme. haha! The best part though is that my other mom (my friend's mom)- Mama Rosa made her famous burritos!! So good! ok enough of the debrief...here are some pics My lovely maids of honour: So they were all asked to get me something for the wedding night....did I mention my 90 year old grandma was there (the girls didn't think this one all the way through but it was funny and maybe a little embarrassing at times lol) So I now have lingerie to last a lifetime but not everyone got me lingerie....this was by far the most embarrassing gift I had to open in front of everyone (you don't want to know what I'm showing everyone...or maybe you do haha!!) Oh we also had games including this one where everyone wrote a joke vow from me to Sean. This one was also really embarrassing to say out loud....big surprise the same person who got me the gift from above! Love those guys though, they certainly were the life of the party! I had a really great day and feel so fortunate to have my girls who took so much time and effort to plan this day for me! I think we settled on a bachelorette party for either Dec 11 or 12. @ my girls were talking about Remington's haha it made me think of yours!
