  1. @@liz24 Wow I know your wedding day passed and I hope it all went as beautiful as you both hoped. I have found that dealing with my guest is the most stressful part of the wedding planning. I have 3 BMS and my MOH. Unfortunately my best friend could not be my MOH because she is due 5wks before our wedding and will not be cleared to fly (this put a monkey wrench in my plans). I in turn had to ask another friend to be a BM and move my second closet friend up to the task. My wedding attendants are uneven but if I could to it over again we would only have two attendants. In your situation I would of just told her never mind and not to worry about it because you don't need added stress. Excuses and A** everyone has (as my mother would say) lol those that care will move mountains to celebrate your special day!
  2. We have chosen "brand new" originally by The Stylistics but we are dancing to the Boys II men rendition (they are my all time fav group).
  3. I would definitely suggest a TA but that's not always guaranteed to relieve stress. My guest have started asking me booking questions and flight prices (hello that's why I have a TA). I'm constantly redirecting ppl to her. I have also had guest complain that the TA is not clear when she responds to emails (so I then reach out to her ) and find out that my guest are unclear on what they want to do which in turn confused her (I mean she's only human). In all reality ppl are going to change their mind especially this early. I would start sending out your save the dates (if you haven't already) and set a deadline for booking a room. Keep in mind that life changes and so may your guest.
  4. The first wedding item I purchased was the fee for the travel agent. We booked through destination wedding.com and there's a $50 fee that is added to your final cost.
  5. I haven't thought of it. I know for sure I hate the girdle I tried on when dress fitting lol. I'm hoping to only wear a white bra (I've lost weight so my boobs are slowly shrinking) and a comfortable panty (maybe personalized w/ Mrs. Clayton). I'm personally not a fan of undergarments or hot ones at that.
  6. I am doing t-shirts for every guest but there's only 25.
  7. First and foremost it's your day so whatever you two want then go with that. I am wearing a expensive big gown and my fiancé is wearing a suit but our wedding party are wearing relaxed looks. At first I thought my dress was way to formal for a DW but at the end of the day it's our wedding and if we want to look like celebrities then it shall be
  8. Hi, I'm so glad you asked this question. I'm hoping to get more insight on the semi private reception because I am hoping to do everything traditional within that hour in a half (I have read reviews that the dinner service is slow) so that may buy us time on first dance, mother daughter dance and son mother dance and the toast. I'm not planning to go the throwing of bouquet or garter. I will be sending my questions this upcoming month to the resort and see how other ppl figure it out. Our wedding guest list is 25 ppl so spending the money on the disco is not in budget since we've decided to do a welcome cocktail that Wednesday before the wedding.
  9. I personally booked a travel agent through destination weddings.com. My agents name is Joanne and she is delightful. We paid $50 to use the site and that money will be put toward our final cost. Joanne books everything for our guest and she matches prices. So far my experience is a great one. I would note that the flights booked with the TA are higher than if you researched for lower flights.
  10. My bridesmaids selected chiffon materialed dresses that are flowy and flattering to all their body shapes. I love the dress it is light and fun.
  11. Hi Francine. I also am from NJ but not a 2015 bride. I am getting married this upcoming October in IBRHS because we have children attending the wedding. Just to help you with some of your questions: our wedding budget is $14,000 and that's including ceremony and reception at the resort. I have included extras for our wedding like a welcome cocktail gathering the Wednesday before the wedding and we also have decorations of our own and we splurged on the favors (we are doing t-shirts). This forum has helped a lot with location reviews and awesome ideas.
  12. I started with doing plenty of research from locations, wedding packages, best seasons, and our realistic budget (because money can be spent very quickly). Once you have those things down then begin making a guest list so you know if a DW is really what you would like (be mindful that not everyone will attend and if the ppl that matter the most to you can attend). These forums have helped a lot.
  13. I don't believe so. My save the dates were postcards and my wedding invitations are passports.
  14. I sent our save the dates out 11 months before our wedding. I believe that is enough time for guest to make payment plans or decide whether they want to come or not.
  15. I definitely went over budget on my wedding dress. I paid $1035 for a mermaid style dress with silver, crystal and pearl details.
  16. I asked my bridesmaids with a ring box that I painted myself (I bought the box at AC Moore). The box was painted in the wedding colors with a fake diamond ring inside and on the top it read "I can not say I do without you". I asked every one in person down on one knee. (I am super cheesy and knew they would cry and laugh)
  17. I think a OOT bag is ok. I am ordering t-shirts for every guest as their favor/ thank you and I am attaching a personalized thank you note.
  18. I think this is plenty. I was a BM for two friends and I received a personalized compact mirror and in the other our dresses were purchased. I thought the ideas were great. For my BMs I purchased a tote (the colors of the wedding); inside I am putting their shoes, jewelry and clutch (which they will use the day of the wedding). I did not buy anything separate for my MOH.
  19. I have attended two DW that gave OOT bags. I used everything given to me for example: sunscreen, Tylenol, snacks, and the bag itself (for the beach). I think the simpler the better but include essentials. I had hoped to do bags but instead I am doing t- shirts with thank you notes (these will be placed in each guest room) Agreed I am doing t-shirts but our wedding guest list is small (and for sizes we don't know I'm just buying bigger sizes).
  20. My fiancé purchased a watche for each GM that is their style. He put plenty of thought into the gift (especially because he loves collecting watches) so it's a win win
  21. I am having the resort place the bags in the guest room before they arrive for a fee I think it is nice to have the bags there on arrival. But I also attended a wedding that gave the bags the day after the wedding at brunch as a "thank you for coming gift"
  22. Hi I completely share your frustration. My fiance and I decided we were going to have a destination wedding 4 years ago and have worked diligently to make this dream come true. While planning for our upcoming wedding we have had several people not agree with our decision (mostly family). I feel personally I have sacrificed a lot for my family and friends and if people can not do the same then that's one less person we have to pay for lol
  23. Congratulations. I also am getting married this October 2014 in Jamaica. So far my unexpected stressor is the lack of RSVP cards sent back (although I have a round about of ppl attending). I will be including our itinerary in each guest room with the wedding favor so that everyone knows what is going on (especially on the big day). Good Luck
