  1. ah, I'm sorry! @@atennille Hopefully you can overcome this, being friends for 15 years doesn't just happen overnight. I agree with @@MissJen3, no matter what someone will not be happy or have something negative to say. But at the same time you have to do whats best for you and your fiance and the ones who really want to be there will (excluding extenuating circumstances of course)
  2. Yes I am American. Our price include hotel and transfers, but not air. I chose our resort because it is only 5 hour direct flight and flights start at under $500 so guests could go for $1,000-$1,500 depending on how long and where they are coming from. So I do think its possible, but I am not sure on pricing from Canada.
  3. How many days are you looking to go for under $1,500? I got my resort down to $171 per person per night...
  4. So sorry to hear about people that are so close you you all dropping out! That is one reason why we decided to not do a bridal party. It would be too much stress to handle people dropping out or just having to deal with stuff that is out of your control. @@atennille did your best friend do something to you or are you frustrated/hurt with her actions in regards to the wedding?
  5. You are welcome!! I made a deadline to make a decision which helped me decide cause I was starting to drive myself crazy with all the second guessing.
  6. Ya we had the same issue and we have such a small window we were able to do it in. Didn't end up getting our first choice of dates, but now we are legally getting married here the weekend before so the wedding will just be symbolic. So the date ended up working perfectly for us! Good luck @@MissJen3, I promise once you set the date and resort you will feel a lot better!
  7. Once I picked a resort I felt a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. I was so stressed and kept going back and forth even though I ended up going with the resort I had originally picked. Now the room block and wedding date is confirmed, save the dates are out and wedding website is done and I am taking a break!
  8. I agree, we are lucky to have friends and family want to do this for us. I just don't want to take advantage of anyone, despite all the time and money I have spent on them!
  9. That sounds like the perfect weekend! I won't be having one till next spring, I feel bad about asking people to spend money on a bachelorette party when they are already spending money for the wedding. But on the other hand I have been to everyone bachelorette party, bridal shower, baby showers, weddings and many kids birthday parties for the past 10+ years, I shouldn't feel too bad....
  10. I had the same problem! I had it narrowed down to 3 resorts and then starting working with a Travel agent. I definitely recommend using a travel agent as they could help you decide based on what is most important to you. I did a ton of research, got quotes, did budgets for all of them and did webinars before I decided. I decided by price and what was most important to me. I really liked my final 3 but the biggest factor came down to the resort (super intimate and limited options vs. bigger and more options) and the wedding packages. One reason I decided to do a DW was because I didn't care about a lot of the "extras" and some of the places were going to charge me $200-$300 just for a table set up. I don't care that much about all the stuff on the table nor will my guests. Good luck!
  11. Thank you, glad you like it! It's my fiances second wedding too, so I am trying to not go overboard, as half the guests were at his first wedding. I just keep trying to remember to enjoy the ride!
  12. At first I felt like it was just another event for work, but finally I got into it and its been exciting. The funny part is, I want such a simple wedding because I have seen so many people get crazy over all the little details. Of course I have had a few "crazy" moments . My biggest advice is do what you and your fiance want and just have fun. No one will remmeber the little details of your wedding, they will only remember how fun it was and the great memories!!
  13. We are going to Excellence Resort in Riviera Maya. I am an event planner, so I did a lot of research and budgets for our top choices.
  14. The private reception thing was one of the deciding factors in selecting my resort. Luckily it was part of the wedding package and we don't have to pay extra for that.
  15. I'll check with the resort then. I would love to get a picture with them, I think it looks so great! Although, I am not sure when we would do that as we are not to a formal send off, since we are all just there...
  16. Does anyone know if you can have sparklers at your wedding in Mexico?
  17. That is the tough part, my sister is waiting to get pregnant till after the wedding. But she just got married in December and is using the wedding as their honeymoon too. But our photographer will have a 5 month old then so she can't do it anymore. Hopefully no one else will get pregnant but that is up in the air as I know a couple of friends were going to start for the next one soon. Luckily they were "maybes" from the beginning
  18. I totally agree @@pddcmc! Especially lately we have both been so busy with work and selling a house, we have barely seen each other. Which has been tough but more time to plan the wedding
  19. ha ha that sounds familiar. My fiance was getting frustrated cause we were on a hike and all the spots he wanted to do it were taken and finally he said "screw it, I am just doing this". I was so confused!!
  20. Isn't it nice to feel like you are "normal" when talking to everyone else @@MissJen3!! No one I know has ever planned a DW and despite my background there are still a lot of new things I am learning and figuring out.
  21. I totally agree! They are supportive but past that point in their life. Its nice to be able to chat with everyone on here
