I also want to point out that most airlines allow two personal articles with you on the plane. You can have a backpack, large purse, bag of some sort AND a roller suitcase. No joke! I suggest you check on your airlines website for what their carry on baggage is and what the size/weight requirements are for each piece and push the limit so you can get even more free baggage! I was super nervous we were breaking the rules and would get denied, as I honestly thought the backpack was equivalent to the roller suitcase but it's not. We had PLENTY of our guests do the same thing. Who knew! I carried a large weekender type bag of all the breakables, wedding day items (jewelry, shoes, etc.), electronics, snacks, etc. Then I had a roller suitcase of maracas. Spouse had other things. Then our kids had their own bags of their wedding day items, electronics, snacks, etc.

Agree! and the brides on here who did get checked said they were in, searched, and out within 3-5 minutes. I had 11 bags and I was even hassled at the customs desk, then asked questions at security and STILL got the green light. I was sweating bullets though! I wrote about this experience in my review that is coming soon, that whole experience in the Cancun airport with 11 bags and kids, and yelling customs ladies was very overwhelming! That said, I had all my receipts and wedding documents ready in case we did get searched.

I didn't buy one as it's not something I'd like to have as a keepsake. Also they are way overpriced. The resort had one at the reception. We did cut the cake traditionally but also may have forgotten if the MC didn't announce it. lol ok maybe not true at sometime I would have dug in as I love cake. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Oot Cups
calgarybride2015 replied to StaceyMarieHughes's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
I had no issues at customs in Mexico. I got the green light though. All the brides on here recently who have been searched had no issues. Just have all your receipts ready and your wedding info. Our tumblers were used and people thanked us for them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
ugh that is annoying! At our resort the WC would suggest things and add them in another color - so yellow was things I had confirmed, blue was her suggestions (isle runner, tikki torches, etc.) When I axed them, she would remove them or vice versa. But add them hoping you may not notice??? not cool.

Thank You Card Question
calgarybride2015 replied to calgarybride2015's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Yes it's bad!! I'm sooo thankful the resort took peso as payment of fees or I'd probably still be crying. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Oot Cups
calgarybride2015 replied to StaceyMarieHughes's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
I gave one to everyone. Since it was in the cups it was just easier to have adult vs kids. If I had done bags I would have went per room. We had people ask for more supplies so they were getting used even when stuff was in doubles. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
When I did my research I found costs anywhere from around $700 - $5000. All of those prices ranged in time, the $700 may have only been for 3 hours, but then some that were $3000 were only for 5 hours, etc. Some included 2 photographers, some not, some had more pics than others. Had to pick thru a lot of info. I agree with the other ladies, take a look around and then seek out quotes from the ones that catch your eye. After that narrow it down by the ones that fit into your budget -- once you have that set, go back and look at all of their work again and see which photographer is more your style. I'd suggest knowing prices first, because it may be a large disappointment to pick one and then not be able to afford them!!! and during this process you will find out which ones are quick to reply, helpful, and the like! In the end I had 8 hours of coverage for $1700 ($2100 Canadian), which included 285 pictures and a 90 picture photobook!!

Thank You Card Question
calgarybride2015 replied to calgarybride2015's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Thank you, I thought so but wanted to ask. I only ordered 25 cards from Shutterfly, so maybe for the work one I will do a generic thank you card as I don't think I will have enough!! But everyone will get something I almost used Vistaprint (would have been cheaper) but I really liked on Shutterfly that you could put a group photo on the inside top of the card and have the bottom blank for writing. Couldn't seem to figure out how to do this with Vistaprint! My order was $50 but after exchange was $65 ouch! -
Thank You Card Question
calgarybride2015 replied to calgarybride2015's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Oh I totally agree!! I also feel that is quite rude and I can't wait to get our thank you cards out so they know how much we appreciate it. We said thank you A LOT at the resort but we want to ensure they know we really do care and that we have opened their cards/gifts, etc. Since we are on this topic, here is another question. I thought I should give a thank you card to everyone who gave us something at one point or another - so, to my friend who gave me a gift card for my bachelorette, my work/various coworkers who chipped in for the gift card they gave me, etc. I do send them a card too right or is an in person thank you enough? I wasn't sure if you used the wedding thank you card or maybe another one? Thanks! -
I totally get it, I brought down all the same stuff except for the flowers. I had nothing breakable though (except 3 frames) so I could pack in pretty tight. The only thing that got 'hurt' was the flower girl pail. It got bent and some paint chipped off so I made sure my daughter had the nice side facing out haah!

Sweet deal. I paid $1.65/pair at Amols but if You don't wanna lug them down that's a great price in Playa!!! What scares me about the pic above advertising 'maracas Mexico' is those are identical to my Amols ones?'!?! Maybe they all use the same ones but Maracas Mexico will paint your wedding info on them, so in turn charges more. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hey ladies Ok don't laugh, but I'm stumped on this. We are working on our thank you cards and I'm wondering if you mention the actual gift they gave you in your message or not? If yes and it was money, what terminology do you use? Ie -- monetary gift. Thanks for all input!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The resort I got married at has very reasonable wedding packages. Their extras are very affordable and they don't nickle and dime you for setting things up and the like. We had a wedding of 45 people. We took the free package and did all the upgrades we wanted. We went with the private beach and palapa for the reception. We had a lot of extra flowers (upgraded bouquets, bridesmaids bouquets, bouts for men, petals to sprinkle), mariachi band, had an extra 4 hours for our reception/open bar, cocktail hour, chair ribbons, mariachi, DJ for 6 hours, and with my hair trail, and wedding day hair/makeup I only paid $5000 after deposit. This also included some nice honeymoon items. What was nice also is that our resort charged in pesos (helps with the horrible Canadian dollar) and tax was included - some brides get an extra 16% tacked on. All my decor was put out for free and they didn't charge us to move chairs, etc. around She also threw in somethings for free!! Isle runner, Chinese lighted lanterns, etc. The free wedding package was in an A'la Carte which I hadn't envisioned for my wedding, but some people do. They have about 5 wedding packages you can choose from ranging from like $1800 (if you don't get it for free) to around $5000. Lots of the larger packages had fluff we didn't need so we found it easier to go basic and just upgrade what we wanted. There are definitely great resorts out there with affordable wedding packages, you just have to look for them!

Where To Start?! Canadian Bride Looking For Advice.
calgarybride2015 replied to jencakes's topic in Newbies!!
I'll PM you the lady we used. She was great. She is in Mexico till Sunday just as a heads up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
We decided to use it towards extras at the wedding. Our rebate allowed us funds for the mariachi band etc. I thought my guests would appreciate that more than an extra $50 off their trip. I wouldn't feel guilty whatever you choose. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You are getting close!! I know it can feel stressful, but please try not to let it take you over!!! I wish I hadn't sweated the small stuff. At the end of the day, it didn't matter. As I sat at the head table with a room full of people I loved, I laughed that I lost sleep over a seating chart, or a vase for my flowers, etc. We forget the beauty of our locations and that people are there for us, not nice table decor! Don't get me wrong it's nice to have and in a lot of cases needed, but don't lose sleep over it. Do what you can do within your budget and luggage requirements lol By the end I didn't care that my sign was blowing in the wind and not readable at times, I didn't care she grouped my candles together and didn't spread them out LOL see it sounds silly doesn't it? we have to let some things go. I am also glad I trusted my instincts. I was comfortable from the get go with the resort photographer, the spa on site, etc. etc. but this board with all its knowledge made me second guess a lot of my decisions. In the end I was over the moon about all the vendors we used ON SITE and am soooooo glad I didn't spend extras money for the outside vendors services and the vendor fees. That said, I understand that sometimes you have too, but in my case I am glad I trusted my gut. It's tough to see it all come together in your mind but the moment it does in your location it is such a relief. I was really able to let it all go (even though I am type A) and just enjoy my day for what it is. We had a small blip but I didn't let it ruin my day. Albeit it was minor, they forgot the tables/chairs for our cocktail hour. But when I stepped out of the 'trees' and saw my ceremony site I was blow away, I had to stop to take it all in. Mexico is beautiful, the flowers are beautiful, and you see your loved one standing there and that is really all that matters. One thing I may have done different? paid to have my ceremony taped. I don't remember the music much and wouldn't mind reliving that. Thankfully my bridesmaid's spouse taped it on his go-pro so I can have that to cherish. Another thing I am glad I did, was have my photographer for 8 hour. 5-6 would have worked too, but I almost only paid for the ceremony and I am super glad 'cheap Kim' took a hike for that! Just remember what is most important to you and that it will all come together though it's hard to see now. You have to let go a little bit in Mexico because you just have to trust them. They aren't new to weddings and know what they are doing Good luck

I don't think anyone was suggesting the kids would leave the resort. They are just suggesting that maybe the kids go back to the room earlier with the babysitter on the wedding night so they can party longer, etc. or for a bachelorette or the like. My daughter was ready for bed at 900pm on my wedding night. I couldn't have imagined having to leave to put her to bed. Thankfully fiance's mom took them for the night so we could enjoy the party and some quiet time alone.

You need to let go lol. If you trust them it's no different than them being with you. They aren't venturing off the resort, they won't be doing anything unsafe, etc. You are just a jaunt around the resort away from Them I welcomed the break 250%!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sunglasses For Oot Bags?
calgarybride2015 replied to TinkerSofi's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
Definitely ask them to bring them! if you have extras you can also bring some yourself (or your fiance). I almost scrapped them as I felt like it was an annoyance to drag them down there, but I am sooooo happy I did. Not only did they make for some great photos, we needed them in the sun (doh!) -
Congrats! Marcela is your wedding coordinator who will spend your day with you. I met her 2 weeks ago and she seems fabulous. My coordinator was Aranza. I had Perla for my photographer based on my own research of Adventure Photos and she was awesome. I got replies to her emails daily -- I just used the basic email for Adventure Photos at the resort - surprised you've had a problem! I had a symbolic ceremony and didn't have to bring anything with me. Sorry you do!! I used all services the resort provided and am 100% pleased so all I can say is take a deep breath and trust me! Their spa is off the hook - enjoy! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
