  1. I am only doing wedding favors. With 45 guests and my tastes, I just can't afford to do the OOT. We are doing a pre-travel letter and a luggage tag for each guests. Then at the reception everyone will get a maraca.
  2. I was overweight after I had my twins in 2005. In 2001 I joined 'My Fitness Pal' after repeated attempts trying everything program, shake, and/or pill known to man and I have lost 88lbs. In December 2013 I had a tummy tuck because I was shot. Gives me alot more confidence to be the center of attention at my wedding!!! But summer always gets the best of me, and I generally put on about 10 lbs -- too much beer and having fun at the lake, etc. After my birthday in a few weeks, I am going hardcore to my first dress fitting!!! Would love some accountability partners on here! re: weight watchers, I have used it and it works! But I find adding exercise makes it work better, for longer, and it makes your shape nicer. Just from my experience.
  3. I would just go overboard with your sunscreen application, also maybe pick up the SPF 110. It is much more expensive, but has much more coverage. When I went to Mexico the first time I burnt to a crisp and looked like a lobster, but in Cuba I didn't. Not sure if the sun was less relentless or I mastered my sunscreen regime. I am going to try hard to avoid it, but I am also not going to camp out in my room! It's par for the course I would assume. We won't be the first DW brides with either tan lines or a burn, I can promise you that
  4. I agree.... my friend just married in DR, so I went on Facebook to look at his pics. He wore a white top and I would assume her dress might almost have been champagne. It was clearly not white or ivory and it was highly noticeable there. But again, I was specifically look for this and didn't notice it the first time I viewed their pics. I probably wouldn't want that much of a contrast but all in all it was fine.
  5. OHH what one did you decide on? I'd give the resort 3-5 days to respond. Some took a week! They get 100's of emails a day I would assume. If you haven't heard back in a week either email them again, or get your TA too. Sometimes they get a better initial response. My TA did all communication for me until I booked the wedding, now I have done it all myself. Good luck! This is probably the most stressful stage.
  6. I read someone that heels sink into the sand and make it hard to walk. Especially if your isle doesn't have a runner. Just a thought If we can't go barefoot (sand to hot) we are wearing flip flops Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. We have only had 2-3 people complain. One was my fiancé a dad but he sucked it up. The other we didn't really want there anyways lol. She complained that she's been to Mexico before and it wasn't $1500. Well she went 5+ years ago and pricing does change. Sigh. But then she goes out and does xyz. You could have afforded it if you made an effort. Generally I don't mind the no's but it's these ones that get under your skin. Ultimately it's your day and you need to be happy. I find it's a compromise too, can be a stressful one because you don't want to price your guests out of coming. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I had a friend like that. I was looking at may and January. She is like 'why choose may the weather is getting nice here, people want to go when it's cold'. So she said she preferred January. Anyways in the end we chose January (not for her mind you) and she declines haha. Can't please them All. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. We are doing it in 9 months for 40+. And I feel it's too much time, I hate waiting!! lol!! The only nice thing about more time is that your guests can work out details, save money, etc. And that you get better options of wedding dates at your resort, etc.
  9. www.mywedding.com Easy to use!
  10. I am a January 2015 bride, great site Quotes generally took a week for us..... It was frustrating but hang in there.
  11. Great job! I used her same template for mine. I'd ask a photo here to show you but I don't know how lol
  12. Awesome, we are doing the exact same thing! I haven't put much thought into Vegas yet, but the ideas above are great. Have you ever been to Vegas? I have 5 times but my fiance never has. I would say whatever hotel you do choose ask for a honeymoon upgrade - maybe you will get a strip view. Enjoy!
  13. You all have lucky ladies This is what I have done so far 1. Prada makeup bags in our color (they are from China, if you get my drift hehe) 2. Anklet with an infinity symbol and beads in our wedding color (Etsy) 3. white flip flops with flower that attaches for the wedding if the sand is too hot (old navy) 4. bangles to wear at the wedding (East Indian store) 5. small picture frame with a picture of us 2 in it (Michaels) 6. I paid for a small portion of their dress ($40 of each maids) I may throw in some kleenex, chapstick, etc. They will also get all the gifts that everyone else is getting - luggage tags, maracas, etc. So far that is about $70 each, the makeup bags were a wedding gift to me... for them. Such a lovely coworker I have. A Pandora bracelet was on my list, but it just isn't in the budget!
  14. I personally think the idea is awesome, even if not personalized with their name. But I have no room to carry that many towels!
  15. My flower girl and ring bearer are my kids who will both be 9 at the wedding. I bought my daughter earrings and a bracelet she can wear at the wedding, but you can't get a boy jewelry. I am so stumped, I kind of shoved that off on my fiance. Maybe a special shirt, not sure. He keeps saying his is the ring bearer so he can dress up as a bear, so may go along that route with a special shirt. Who knows!!
  16. At my resort you can either hire a DJ per hour or you can rent the sound system per hour. I rented the DJ and told him what type of music we like. Hopefully he does that, but if not I may have my ipod ready just incase.
  17. I told my friend she could bring her mom if she wanted lol!! We also didn't mind who they brought and wanted people to know they could if they wished!!
  18. We are doing an open bar for the guests right after the ceremony while we do pictures. Then our dinner/dance is for 3 hours, but we paid an extra 3 hours so we could have the open bar/DJ all the way until 11pm when the disco opens. At the disco the drinks and music are free and we could fill it ourselves with the guests, so that is good enough for me. EDIT: I could rent my reception area until 6am, but it costs $8.44 CND per person, per hour, then the DJ to do so. So that is why I decided to just do it until the disco opened.
  19. I did this too! At first I was trying to glue on pearls or rhinestones in strips and it wasn't working (didn't think to do them individually as above), but then what i did was buy clip on earring backings, and hot glued white flowers to them and wola, you can either where them normally or with a clip on flower.
  20. Such a hard decision... Bridal party - Everything by Michael Buble (up in the air, can't decide, wanted Best Day of My Life by American Authors but too fast) Me - 1000 years by Christina Perri, but using the instrumental version by the Piano Guys Signing - ??? maybe that American Authors song lol Leaving the ceremony - Top of the World by Imagine Dragons First Dance - All of Me by John Legend Entering reception - ??? Father/Daughter dance - ??? I wouldn't - if that's what you want, do it!!!!!!!!! It's your day.
  21. Yes and no, I think. When I set up my bridal appointments, I wasn't going to do David's Bridal becuase I was worrid they would be too cheap. I went to a boutique and those ladies know what they are doing (in Calgary - Ever After), found a gorgeous lace dress that made me tear up but it wasn't really what I was going for, for my beach wedding. It was also $1600 before alterations, but gosh it was beautiful. Then I went to David's Bridal and I am so glad I did. Their consultants aren't as experienced and are run thin, but they have everything you could ever imagined there and IMO, no they don't look cheap. I paid $500 for my dress and I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!! http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Chiffon-Soft-Gown-with-Beaded-Lace-on-Empire-Waist-V9743_Bridal-Gowns-Features-Destination-Wedding-Dresses but in ivory - which I personally can't tell the difference from white LOL! Tonnes of stores in Calgary have dresses under $1000. I only paid $500 brand new, never worn at David's Bridal. Another store in Calgary actually only supplies dresses under $1000. Beautiful, will look fantastic I decided against a veil.
  22. LOVE THEM ALL!! You look fantastic If I could go back in time, I would have done the different colors of dresses for the bridesmaids, but hadn't seen it before this board so wasn't anything I ever considered. Dresses are ordered so hot pink it will stay!
  23. David's Bridal made me pay for my garment bag as well, it was only $10, but you would think that would be included.
  24. 50 is awesome!! We have 42 at present but can't see it being anymore. We have a couple who are going to try, but who knows We put the invites out in May and will marry in January. I think time frame for us was good, or just a bit too long (LOL) but I don't know if I could have held my excitement for any longer. We had to put our deposits down right away to hold those rooms/seats, but that gave our guests the 90 days. So I paid for my family of 4. We had alot more singles book then I imagined, so our 30/15 ratio was off, but Air Canada hasn't said anything. I am sure things change with less time and less availablity, but it's awesome your friends/family can still get the same pricing, etc. We have had some hick ups with Air Canada changing their schedule but I think we are 99.9% fixed. We have verbal confirmation, but awaiting written confirmation.
