  1. Awesome! I've been fairly lucky that we are at 1-2 days, it was slower when there was a maternity leave change over... but some brides on here wait weeks and that's nuts! I can see maybe IF you haven't booked as they get SO many requests for info, but for the booked brides that's silly!
  2. I can't see mine being low key, but hey what do I know? I have to be honest - I am shy! All the hype of my wedding is exciting, but that moment when everyone is staring at me, snapping photos (I am NOT photogenic and don't like my smile nor do I like to smile - no photog can fix a bad smile!) makes me SUPER nervous, and I wouldn't mind some liquid courage. Ok don't get me wrong, I won't be drunk or even tipsy.... we have a rule but it was more so for fiance as he made all the drunk jokes!! but I know we will all have a celebratory bubbly while getting ready. I keep telling fiance we have to remember to eat during the day (well more so me as I will be more busy) or any booze we drink will hit.. hard...
  3. Congrats!! and yay for leaving in 8 days! Can't wait to hear all about it. I have decided to also not tell anyone, but if someone directly asks me I won't lie either. HAHA the Justice of the Peace here in Calgary said 'lucky you, now you get 2 anniversaries' We have decided to celebrate on the symbolic day, as to us this is our wedding as we are celebrating it with family and friends.
  4. Nope and you aren't a bad person for making that decision. They didn't even cross my mind until I read your post - and I don't feel bad whatsoever!
  5. I agree, no matter where we got married most people would have to travel - even us - as barely anyone but friends live here! We had considered Kelowna (sunny boat country) but they have a high price tag for hotels and such too, so when we kind of put airfare, hotel, food, etc. together we realized it wasn't much more do the Mexico!
  6. I have a similar story! Was eharmony though.. I was so over it, and I wasn't sure I was attracted by the pictures. I went REALLY slow, to the point he still bugs me saying I rejected his first kiss - it's a wonder he kept trying. He was like no other I ever dated, so refreshing! I dated some doozies (gamblers with huge debt, alcoholics, men who always cancelled) yuck! it was so nice when things actually progressed because of HIM wanting them to, not me being frustrated.
  7. WOW!!!! We are paying for ours alone too and I could never EVER consider paying that much money! How many people were there? I can't see other than the number of guests how a bill can get so high?!? maybe I am naive. I think our initial number was $12000, but now we sit around $15000 maybe more as we pay for a lot out of pocket, not our wedding budget - that was just for the big ticket items. Great idea to budget for everyone, then have some extra leftover for things you didn't think about, things you want to splurge on, etc. We have 3 months left of our budget savings timeline (want it saved by November)... when fiance gets stressed and burnt out, I just remind him of this. Mind you he is stressing about the future, not the wedding.. men! ha! I told him lets focus on this before this, etc. We also had those awkward convos, which resulted in a few added people to the guest list! ha! Fiance is a sucker! Ok I bent once too - but not because she confronted me, because I felt guilty after invites went out!
  8. HAHA we could start a new website I am glad I never really second guessed my dress. I knew I had 2 top favorites but one wasn't in my budget nor exactly what I was envisioning for a beach wedding!
  9. Definitely see if you can find anything else on their site! I don't know if the $40 is standard shipping or the cost for 50 maracas! Maybe see if another bride from the same city wants to go in on an order? I thought it was reasonable in comparison to some labels I ordered from Etsy that came with a $20 shipping charge! for labels! lol
  10. ohhhh, I went back and read my contract and I actually can't just pay a vendor fee and be on my way. It states I need hotel management's approval if it's for a service they provide on site. And there are strict rules about the info I have to provide them and where the people can be, etc. EWWW sounds daunting.
  11. I've just started looking into this so I'm not much help! I've priced out styling trio - it's more for me than my resort charges BUT cheaper for my bridal party so that makes me happy. Unsure I can suck up the vendor fee though and not sure I'm comfortable leaving the resort. I have heard rave things about my resorts spa so may have to stick to that. Good luck and let us know what you decide Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. What?!?! They paid how much?!? Holy crap!!! I will not accept debt. I would have to push off my date, wow. I can't stomach that, it's a mortgage down payment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. What is he doing? Or he doesn't care much? Are you planning anything at home too? If yes then after isn't a huge deal. Maybe if you just did the disco Thursday night at the resort and don't leave to a venue it would be easier for people if they get tired or whatnot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I think I'll do it no matter what. My daughter has her pail and somewhat dorky for it to be empty. At the time of the ceremony it would be too late to get her a bouquet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Tell them your budget and you won't go over. That should help. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Sara I got them from Amols as the cost is awesome. I shipped them to a border town in the states and went and picked them up. We were in Kelowna so the border was close or this wouldn't have saved money. I would have paid the $40 shipping though as they are worth it. If you don't need yellow i would not purchase them - I just did an assortment of colors but the yellow needs another coat of paint and they don't look as nice. But they still all look authentic thin paint or not. They chip easy too so don't expect 100% perfect maracas but for the price I have no regrets buying them. I'm sure they will be a hit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk That's 50 maracas. Will require a lot of luggage space! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. We just watched it and LOL a few times. It's so true that adding wedding on jacks up the cost. And stuffing the envelopes. Loved it. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. My sister offered me her dress from 18 years ago. I almost died when she sent me pictures of it. Sorry, it was hot back then but not anymore LOL!!! She knows it, she can't believe she even wore it. I wouldn't keep shopping as you will only confuse yourself. And think of your budget - is there room for 2 dresses in there? Just maybe keep putting yours back on so you can remind yourself why you got it. I have mine at home so I can do this periodically. LOVE being in it!
  19. Be careful! We had a huge turnout! I think we invited around 60 and 45 are coming (well possibly 47 due to fiance's cousin's sister who would like to come)... I never budgeted for it because I never in a million years thought they would all come! Our number may grow as we have 1 or 2 couples we have left open for a last minute addition due to their finances, etc. But I am capping at 50 for numbers reasons (favors, tables, etc.). When I did my initial budget I said 30 -- then as we got closer to RSVP time I went to 35... but in that last few days before the deadline to book I had a swack of people!! Needless to say I had to adjust my budget again!
  20. I should tattoo 'that's NOT in the budget' on my forehead lol.... I agree, some things totally took me by surprise!!! I had to adjust my budget a few times. Big one was wedding bands! I think I budgeted $500 total for both of ours, and we ended up paying $1000. But I saved on my dress. LIke was said in another thread, it's a give and take -- some come in under budget and some go way over. Photography was another one - which is kind of silly because I know what it costs in Canada. I think because it was never that high on my list. I was going to use my fiance's cousin but she is not coming (which in hindsite is a blessing..drama!) hehe. So when I had to add that cost on, I had to take a big gulp.
  21. I did some more hunting, and it seems a lot of ladies did the paper fans with wood handles (not plastic) so that makes me feel better! They will be there to help fan people, I don't think they will be taken home as I doubt they will hold up at the cost they are sold for (IE ripping, etc.) It's not a favor more something to make them comfortable.
  22. Awesome! They are beautiful fans and will look fantastic. I may not do a fan at all, but fiance likes the idea. Maybe I see what I can find in town, but it's hard to beat Oriental Trading's prices.
  23. I can totally appreciate where he is coming from and you do have a tight schedule - I am not sure I would want the party the night before our wedding! They may be tired, but heck they may be ok with it, could you ask them? Also, you could go after your wedding and just name the party something else? We were supposed to arrive Sunday and we marry Wednesday. When they cancelled our flight we got changed to Saturday, so now we have more dates to choose from. I am thinking Monday - as Sunday is the day we will probably meet the WC and the photographer for final payment, etc. so don't want to worry about much else that day.
  24. Yes they are flat, but 45 will add up! I bet they take the good majority of your suitcase. 45 tank tops would hehe! I have seen those and considered them as they would be a super cheap DIY but I honestly don't like the idea of the program! Everyone will have met by the time of the wedding and such, so I don't see why we would write their names on a card to remind everyone. Just not my style, I find that more formal where I am somewhat informal!
  25. The groupon I got was $60 of product for $30 - but I am in Canada. Even if the cards are under $10, and the brochures are around $20, you can still produce a lot. For the cards, I just use the 'personal' ones because they come in 50, and I won't need more than that as we only have 45 guests! I figure for $60, I can get my brochures, and 4-5 cards (maybe more if there is a sale!) for my oh shi!t tags, maracas tags, this bag belongs too tag, and wedpics. If I can get another one in, I will do my luggage tags too (but kind of want a variety so may not use Vistaprint)
