At Home Reception (AHR) Do's and Don'ts
BusyBee280 replied to Brenners's topic in At Home Reception (AHR)
I want to do this but our budget is pretty high for our wedding, and can't stand a thought of adding something else to it.. Any tips for doing something like this on the cheaper end? We were thinking maybe a BBQ over the summer- which my FI was supposed to be in charge of. I don't think its going to happen though, because not a single thing has been done for it lol. I feel bad that not all of our friends and family will be able to attend- Maybe we could just host a dinner somewhere semi-formal in the area? We are getting married in November 2014- and we live in New England. So anything outdoors is kindof out of the question... -
Oh my, I would be upset about that! I put on my invitation that all events are private. One of our guests wanted to bring a lady friend of his along with him so he wouldn't feel like a third wheel- We almost considered it, but then it wouldn't be fair. We are not inviting people that we have been friends with for years! why on earth would we want people there that we hardly know!!! Although- my mother insisted that I bring my sister in law (who I can't stand).. I guess there will never be a win win

Dress, Hair, Make up
BusyBee280 replied to aoliver13's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Hi! For my hair- I'm planning on letting the resort do it (its included in my package)- to ensure I get what I want, I'm printing out pictures of what I want to bring with me and show them. I'm still debating rather I want to do a test trail in the salon before the big day. For the shoes- I ordered some of the "bead barefoot sandals"- I found some cute ones on amazon for anywhere from 3-20 dollars. For the dress- I ordered mine from e-bay lol- It might seem silly, but it saved me a lot of money. I ended up getting it for 100 dollars, and it was exactly what I wanted. It arrived about a month or so after I ordered, and came out perfect. *Strapless fitted with lace- laceup in the back incase I decide to lose or gain a few pounds before my trip -

Thanks to a post that we found on this site, there is a local shop in Puerto Vallarta that makes "rain stick shakers"- I saw them and thought they would be the coolest gifts to give to our guests.. WWW.Maracasartanddesign.com We asked for a quote, and they said it would only be $8 for each of them - SCORE! However, they would need to be made in Mexico, and shipped to the resort from the shop where they would be made. Is anyone else doing something like this? Has anyone had any experiences when shipping purchases through Mexico? I feel like I've heard nothing but horror stories...

We are working towards my dream of getting married on a beach, and I completely failed to think of something- the wind.. humidity etc.. I had high hopes for wearing my hair down, with a pretty white flower to match my dress. How is everyone else planning to wear your hair for your wedding?? Has anyone had troubles with humidity/wind?? Maybe I could just use a but load of hairspray and clips??

I think you will be alright!! lol once you have finalized some of your choices I think you will find that it goes smoother than you would expect. As far as your hair and makeup- I'm planning on printing out a picture of what I want done for my hair, and makeup. Once I arrive at the resort I'm planning on doing a trail run (I asked my coordinator to make sure this can be done) As far as your hair being flat, I guess you could bring some product with you to help ensure that doesn't happen? Or perhaps you could chose an updo that you like so you wouldn't have to worry about it.

Best Way To Reach 150 Posts?!?!? To Access The Good Stuff!
BusyBee280 replied to cneedham's topic in Newbies!!
I'm still trying to get there myself.. I'm sure it will come- eventually lol -
Congrats on your engagement! How exciting!! We ended up choosing Mexico due to the cheaper prices- We were thinking of Jamaica, Barbados- somewhere along those lines.. Mexico ended up working out best for us because it doesn't take as long to get there, plane tickets weren't as much, and the resorts were a bit cheaper than most other places.. Somewhere warm and tropical- Lots to choose from I've noticed a lot of resorts have incentives if you book early to help save money

We put our deposit in some time ago, they have yet to charge our card. It took a while at first, but once we got into a mojo of e-mailing back and forth once per week or so, everything has been going smoothly since. There is some areas that you need to coordinate with other people at the hotel, as an example- we are hosting a get together at Humitsu the night before hand, so we had to e-mail the chef there with info on our guests. I have had good experiences when working with other staff here- accept for Adriana (the sales manager)- it took her a MONTH AND A HALF to get the group link together We are having 16 people so far, and as for decorations We have the "ultimate package" and adding 3 centerpieces, arbor sways, chair bows, tablecloth for reception, we switched the "Mexican trio band" to a saxophone player without issues- They said that they are planning on moving our flowers and decorations throughout the night to help save us money. If you are having troubles getting in touch with Carolina- I just send her the same e-mail over, and over, and over until she responds. If I haven't heard from her in a 4-7 day span, I E-mail her again. The only advise I can really give, is if she has not responded to you yet, assume you have not sent your information- (we lost out on a deal thanks to her not checking her e-mail well enough, we ended up sending our deposit info not once, but TWICE) I just copy the e-mail I previously sent, add anything else that I have thought up since, and send it again. Carolina has been good about getting back to me within a week or so. You have to remember she is having to plan a LOT of weddings, and unless yours is coming up soon, it will be in a lower priority (unfortunately) Sorry- I'm having trouble figuring out how to tag people for responses :/ We have decided to go with a saxophone player (my FI made that choice lol) Caroilna says that she is going to book someone and then send us his music to choose from. Shan1123- I can try to private message you the attachments when I get home later on- Does the site allow us to do that??

Afternoon! Any brides using sand for there ceremony?? We are still debating rather we want to or not...
-
I know that my resort charges a fee for this- The charge for this and using outside vendors is 150- Depending on what you are bringing, and what the vendor is offering, it may save some money though So far I've been getting everything approved to bring with me, and then printing out all of my e-mails so they can't hold it against me later...

Afternoon Brides!!! My FI and I are planning our wedding in Riviera Maya Mexico for November 2014- Does anyone else have any creative extra touches that they are doing at there wedding??? So far, we have made our selections of what we have available with the coordinator.. However, I'm still racking my brain for creative "extra touches" that I would be able to bring with me. So far, I'm bringing my own program cards, place cards, and debating of rather I should bring a gift for the guests, or purchase something from the area for them. I found a local shop that would deliver to the resort that makes moraccas, mexican rainshakers etc. We are also thinking of bringing an empty tequila bottle, and having everyone sign it with a sharpie for the guestbook...

We are using a group rate, but compared to our guests that are able to book the flight and room together is not all that great of a deal. For us it works out- because we were not able to book together, as we are staying in Cozumel for our honeymoon. As of right now, we only created the "group" to ensure that the rooms would be available for our guests.

How much do we tip the wedding coordinator?
BusyBee280 replied to Michey's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Our wedding coordinator is included in our package, would it be appropriate to bring her a gift for all of her hard work? -
I guess we are getting off incredibly lucky compared to some of you gals. Our room and tickets landed us around $2400, and the wedding package along with the photographer, cake, etc will be around $4000 (We have a fair amount of extras in the package). Our wedding bands are a little under 1000, I ended up finding a dress for 100 dollars through a Chinese bridal shop online, and we ended up needing to pay for my brother and his wife to fly out and stay... so as of right now our total is around $9500
