  1. Awww you sound so wise already! I was just thinking about you this morning. I can't believe you are already packing up to leave. Can't wait to hear more and see pics! How was the weather on your wedding day?
  2. @@calgarybride2015 Oh awesome! Is that laser printer friendly though? The FI just went to a printing conference which is why he was excited to suggest the gold glitter paper because it's printer friendly.
  3. Sparklers for our first dance! In the past I've never been too interested in the first dance portion of weddings. It's the truth. I'd snap the quick pick and then head to the bar. I wanted to do something to make our guests also feel involved so we decided to have our guests light our first dance with sparklers. Our hotel, the Grand Sunset Princess allows sparklers in the beach area, so that's what we will do! I printed some tags to place on each sparkler. We will have these as part of the table setting for each guest. Our colours are coral and gold. I am not a huge fan of the colour of paper but the FI just told me that he can order some gold glitter paper that you can actually print on. So that would probably look amazing. This is what we have so far. This is the vision
  4. All of these stories are so touching. Thank you for sharing. I lost my mom at 23 years as well. It was really sudden, my first major loss, first major heart break. I really had to do a lot of work to work through the grief. I eventually became a grief counsellor to honour her memory and help others. I honour her memory every day, so I don't want to make it like a mini memorial for her...but like @@calgarybride2015 said, everyone at the wedding either knew her or knew of her. One idea I thought of is to do a toast for her during my speech in her honour. Thanks for all the ideas ladies. hugs! @wafflesmom @@acw271011
  5. That would be great! I'd love to see it in more detail so that I can make myself one this weekend : )
  6. We were lucky to get the rate of $1250 for our guests. We were able to use our price-drop guarantee rate. so our guests saved $300 each!
  7. What a beautiful picture! I like that idea too. If my dad wasn't remarried I wouldn't think twice about the chair idea. I will definitely be mentioning her in my speech. I'm really trying to be accommodating. @calgarybride2015 what does the charm attach to? is it a clasp or a pin through the ribbon? I could probably make one!
  8. Ohhhh, I think that a few people from her side will be attending. Maybe I could have them sit near it. I've seen some brides put that chair front and centre. But I don't know if it's too much of a downer.
  9. Hello lovely ladies, I'm looking to get some advice and or ideas. Since my mother is no longer with us, I wanted to find a way to include her in this special day. I have seen the idea where couples leave a chair empty and reserved for that special person. I really like that idea. Here's where it could be awkward though. So my dad will be at the wedding with his new wife. She's great and she's been very supportive for this wedding. I don't know where to put the empty chair. I don't want it to be awkward for her if she's sitting next to it. the space is quite small where we are getting married so I don't know if that's the best option but it was one that I really liked. I really don't want her to feel uncomfortable. Let me know what you ladies think!
  10. OMG congrats 100 lbs! I won't be losing another 10lbs this week. I'll be lucky if lose 2 this week. I'm mostly trying to focus on inches because that's what will ensure I fit into my dress
  11. @calgarybride2015 @@Meandhim I've just been really determined. I cut out carbs and sugar. I never felt hungry though. Lots of proteins like chicken and tuna, and fruits to snack on. Lots of lemon water, lots of lemon water. I work out on my lunch hour and then I do step class or body pump at goodlife in the evenings. I'm at a plateau right now but I'm just going to keep going because my body fat% is going down so that's a good sign of muscles! It would be "hilarious" if my dress ends up being too big. lol We are excited about the price drop too! It just means our guests will now have extra spending money! So happy for them. As for the sparklers, ya, we will have the bridal party equipped with lighters. We will tell people ahead of time so that they know what to do and expect as well. *praying for no rain*
  12. It's been a busy few days. We are approaching our deadline for full payment of the trip this Friday! We were so lucky to get a price drop. Our guests are going to be saving $200!! So the average is paying $1250 which is reasonable considering it's in June. I have so many projects on the go but the one I am most proud of is my weight loss so far! I have lost 10 lbs since last week...the weight loss slowed down this week but I totally expected that. I lost about 2' off my waist and 1' off my bust which is totally fine by me. 1" off my hips! yay!! I am working on a template to make my sparkler tags. We've decided to do our first dance surrounded by our guests lighting sparklers. *praying for no rain* We just finished up our Guest booking spreadsheet. It tracks the guest names, room types, arrival and departure dates. I feel so much more organized. I need to start working on the welcome kits. I have put that off too long now. So that's this weekend!
  13. I don't know how I am just reading this now...but everythying looked so pretty. You looked stunning. I really liked the Chinese tradition of toasting the table. I think I'm going to incorporate that- it makes guests feel special.
  14. I think it says here comes the bride! I'm saving all my wedding stuff for my sister so I would let you borrow if it is of any use to you! You've been so helpful to me with my planning and stuff.
  15. Oh how awesome! @ Maybe we should ask tygrrlily how she coordinated the lighting! Are you going to have a flower girl? and or ring bearer? Because I just got the cutest little basket and flag for them from David'd bridal but you could totally use it after me since I won't really need them and your wedding is after mine.
  16. @ Those are epic sparklers. I wonder if your photographer could tell us where to get them? my dad is in mexico and I'm going to send him on a hunt in the next few days
  17. @@Wafflesmom @ Thanks sooo much for sharing this! How amazing is this forum? I can't even imagine planning this wedding without this forum. I would be left with no friends if I only had them to go back and forth with these things. lol Nobody really cares as much as we do!! I'm so excited to use my coupon! Thank you ladies!
  18. Have you thought about maybe ordering a convertible dress? It would have straps and they can style it as they see fit for the body type? I looked into www.henkaa.com but ended up going with The Daintyard online thanks to another fab lady on this forum's recommendation. I should add that the dresses on the Daintyard were about $60 each.
  19. I've read, because of course I googled, "how to light sparklers for a send off" and they said that it was easier to light sparklers using another sparkler. Matches would require you to be too close to the sparks, a lighter works as well. I contacted our décor girl from Love and Lace and she sells the sparklers for $3cnd each. ouch. They are 45cm long though, so we may only need 1 per person as it might last long enough. That's like 100 in sparklers ugh.
  20. @ Will it be dark yet at the beginning of the reception? Oh you are a December bride so it probably will be hmmm...I thought about it and I think what we will do is have the bridal party = 10 people equipped with lighters and then they start lighting everyone as they form a circle. people will probably need 2 or 3. It seems picture perfect in my head...but I could see how the circle might not be so perfect if people have to re-light. lol We have about 40-50 guests so I think that with 10 people lighting them it should be fine. Once people have their sparkler lit they can light someone else's too. I'll def. share the template once it finish putting it all together.
  21. Omg, I know! Like in a business where a booking means you get paid, you would think that customer service would be #1 priority. We can book flights on our own. The only reason we went with a TA was for the perks I guess, but I actually could have done that directly through Sunwing. The bulk of my stresses was definitely travel related, whether it was deposits, people not hearing from the TA, the TA just not answering my questions etc etc.
  22. @@nadiakat17 Thanks for advice! Ya, no sparklers on the plane. If I were allowed sparklers on the plane I wouldn't even think twice. Dollar store carries them. @ I am going to make a tag for each sparkler. It will say, Let Amor Sparkle light our first dance June 20, 2015 A&B I was thinking of having them at a table with a sign that says "Please join us for a sparkling first dance" or something like that. We'll probably tell our bridal party ahead of time so that they can make sure people are on the ball for this.
