  1. Awww thanks!! @perianjay So sweet. It's a little annoying that I will have to still pay $91 for alterations and another $60 for the bustle...it's literally like $400 in alterations. I'm really happy that they are taking in the dress rather than taking it out. It's less traumatic for me. haha. the nice thing is that they charge a flast rate of $91 so it doesn't matter how much they have to take in...so I can just run wild with the weight loss. haha.
  2. I cannot believe my time ticker reads 1 month and 2 weeks!! What the France!!?? Updates: The Dress So I went for alterations yesterday AND MY DRESS IS NOW TOO BIG!! What a debacle with this dress. I paid $220 yesterday for them to shorten my dress since I'm only 5.4, and they are sewing my crinoline into the dress because even just being at the bridal store I was so hot wearing that extra layer of crinoline. So right now my dress is too big in the bust area and the lower hip, upper hip and waist. It's a corset dress and both ends of the dress are meeting which apparently you are supposed to show off the lace up so ya. So we've agreed to postpone the alterations for the size until May 26th- so I have 21 days to lose as much weight as I can and then I need to chill it because they will be sizing it. It makes sense because all my clothes is too big right now. I'm holding off on shopping for my resort clothes til the week before we leave.
  3. What a beautiful decor arrangement for your ceremony! wow
  4. Grand Sunset Princess!! That's my hotel! So your hotel is right beside us!! Too bad we didn't have closer wedding dates....that would have been sooooo cool! I was actually thinking of you the other day because I wanted to see if you will have the same issue I have which is that the guests are split in terms of some speak only English, some speak only Spanish, some speak both. So speeches? What do we do? I didn't want to give a speech in Spanish, my first language is English and I'd rather stick to English..but then some our family won't know what I'm saying. ugh Ceremony? Spanglish? I don't know if they even do that. This is opening up a can of worms for me. haha. I just realized we may have to translate all the things we've been working on...$^$%^^
  5. Wow, I have definitely stopped to chat with them at the Wedding shows in Toronto. We spoke with one of their agents about potentially organizing our honeymoon with her. Ya, no.
  6. @calgarybride2015 I am! It just kinda happened. It's kind of incredible and scary! I am excited for life after the wedding though. Hahaha he may think you ask too many questions but I'm sure you cover all your bases and he is lucky to have you for that! My FI says I ask too many questions and have too many feelings. He usually has 'one feeling' at a time. lol He says he's going to have vows for me and separate vows for all my 'feelings'. lol
  7. Very true, I thought about that when we were at the Clerk's office. I should just ask them. I found the website very vague though and focused more on the requirements to obtain the license etc etc. It's probably written in an act. @@calgarybride2015 I'll find out!
  8. She's certainly stepping up to the plate like an MOH. If you feel like you want to ask her than I would say go for it. I asked my sister to be my MOH and she's really the one that has stepped up to the plate and I expected that, i mean she's my sister. I know what you mean about ranking people and maybe having the other girls feel like she's above the others...so it's completely up to you! Is she already a bridesmaid? I just wanted to ask that to clarify because I wasn't sure after re-reading your post.
  9. @@calgarybride2015 The clerk was very clear that in Ontario, if one were to have a symbolic ceremony with an exchange of vows before being legally married, it would be considered acting in bad faith and therefore they would not issue the marriage license. Now, they would have to know that you exchanged vows.... (read between the lines). She was very clear to explain this to us because she said that many people that do destination weddings that run out of time think they can wait and do it after. So we applied for our marriage license and they now know that we plan to do our symbolic wedding June 20th, if we book the officiant for a time after that and they know, they would not go ahead with it as it would be seen that we acted in 'bad faith'. She was as clear as tulum beach water!
  10. @ashhtayy you are too funny!! You are so right. I have said it, the FI has said and a few of our friends have said it too, that we are getting in married in paradise, we don't need to spend $$$ so much money on décor. I'm trying to keep the decor to a minimum but some things I will be splurging on are: Gold chargers at each table setting Chiavari chairs for the ceremony and reception Gold table runners The glittler gold table numbers Colourful maracas on the tables and pops of coral and cream from the flower centre pieces. this is my idea of keeping it 'simple' he he. @@vancouverpetunia @wafflesmom The papel picado strands I am renting from a previous bride from this forum. Her company is called Love & Lace and is located in Playa Del Carmen. Lots of ladies have done business with her with happy reviews. She has a whole roster of items that she rents. The papel picado is $12 a strand. We are also renting the gold chargers from her for $2/each and the gold table runners. So it removes the stress of having to buy these things or even travel with them.
  11. @TinkerSofi Exactly. How would they know...but I wouldn't take a risk. They were sure to outline the rules. She said if they knew that vows were exchanged beforehand than they wouldn't marry as it is seen as 'bad faith' and it would have to be dealt with in court. etc etc. It just sounds more expensive at that point. Also, knowing my luck....so I know the rules and I'm following them. lol
  12. I hope you find someone! I got a spray tan for my engagement party and I had a bad experience with it. I had it done a few days before and it was so hot that I when I was sweating i could smell the spray tan. I had stains on the dress I wore and I was sooo annoyed. Maybe it would be worth doing just before you leave for your wedding?
  13. I don't know if I would do that? I would be worried about the heat and sweating it off...the weird smell of the spray tan and staining your dress with the spray tan if you do sweat a lot. I don't know. You will get a natural glow from just being in Cancun but I don't know if I would go the spray tan route.
  14. Start whenever you want! I can't imagine there are any rules. The sharing process of this forum is what helps others and inspires. There are some brides on this forum whose weddings are after mine but have progressed further in their planning than I have ...so it's amazing that I can read and get advice from them too. Start when you are ready!
  15. @TinkerSofi Ahhh, I was writing a response and totally lost it. So things that I learned in this process is that in Ontario, a marriage license is valid up to 3 months. So you must get married within 3 months of obtaining the license. You must obtain a license regardless of whether you are getting legally married here or abroad. Once you get married by your Officiant here, you then have to mail out the paper work to the Province and it takes about 10 weeks to your marriage certificate records. Another thing I learned is that you cannot get married legally if you performed a symbolic ceremony before the legal wedding. It is considered to proceed with the process in bad faith. So they were very clear to explain that. I've heard some people do that on this forum but we didn't want to take a chance so we are definitely doing it beforehand. Again, these are Ontario rules. The marriage license in Oakville cost us $145; if we were to go with the in-house officiant it would cost $329 + $229 to rent the room at city hall. They gave us a list of independent officiants so we are going to compare prices because the $329+ $229 are costs that can be avoided. That's crazy about your family friend @TinkerSofi Wow. they are lucky the officiant went along with it. @@snswedding2016 & @racht33 We are so excited! We love the venue too. We've been to the Grand Sunset Princess twice now, and the Chill Out bar is a beautiful beach club during the day. Much more private. It's extra to go in there but the service and privacy is amazing. We can't wait!!!!!!!
  16. @ Now you've sold me with this idea. I keep literally going back and forth with this idea. I think it is very fitting to include it in the programs. We have two photographers so even though there will be a delay in getting the photos im' sure we can trust them for all the right photos!
  17. Updates! I'm trying not to freak out but it's crazy how time flies. It feels like just yesterday that I had like 3 months to go til the wedding day and now it's like right around the corner. We depart June 14th so it's basically 1 month and a few weeks. ahhh. Marriage License We have applied for our marriage license! So excited. The FI got really emotional about it but I tried to keep my cool. Someone else on the forum gave me great advice to just see it as the paper to make the process in Mexico legal, and that's that. We are looking into officiants and hoping to get the 'paper work' done June 12th. Groomzillo The groomie ordered his suit over the weekend. I have no idea what it looks like. I trust he chose something awesome and I'm really happy I don't know what it looks like so that I can be surprised too! Papel Picado We have ordered 10 strands of this pretty papel picado for the décor at the Chill Out Private reception. For anyone that hasn't been to the Grand Sunset Princess, it's a hidden gem. Amazing prices, lots of space and the staff is amazing! This is the look we are going for! This is our private reception space, Chill Out Bar Wedding Dress alterations My appointment is next Monday! Very excited. I've continued to make progress with my weight loss. I have lost 6 inches off my waist since I started my weight loss progress in March. I've lost inches off my legs and arms too which I'm so happy. I've been weight lifting to tone my arms. My arms are the worst and it's a sweetheart dress so i need them to cooperate Can't wait for the fitting next week!
  18. @perianjay I thought so too! I don't know how we can get around it though. It was the same price in mississauga and I think Toronto too. hmmm
  19. @ Nice! Do you have to pay an extra $399 for the meeting with the officiant etc etc?
  20. @ Exactly. I don't know who I would want to be at the house but I definitely do not want it to be a big deal. They also suggested doing it at a restaurant if there is a private room. Can't do it at a public park because you have to apply for a special license. aghhh. I really just want to sign the papers and leave for Mexico. I don't want his parents to be there for that part because I think they might make it a bigger deal than I want them to. Did the costs that I mentioned above seem similar to what you've looked into? This was what I was told from Townhall Oakville.
  21. Hello lovely ladies I"m now less than 2 months away from our wedding day! We went to cityhall today to apply for the marriage license. The cost of the marriage license is $140 + tax; there is a fee for a consultation with the officiant; and the facility rental which was $299 approximately. The clerk told us that if we chose to have the civil ceremony at home, it would only cost $28.50 approx instead of the $299.00 What are you Toronto brides doing? I didn't want to do it at home because it seems too personal but it saves $200!! (which is the facility rental) We really just wanted to sign papers and do the minimum in order to focus our attention and emotions on the symbolic one in mexico. ahhh decisions, decisions...
