How much is your trip costing your guests???
veryvalentine replied to Corvette79's topic in Honeymoon Forum
@@TinkerSofi Agreed! Our agent said that we would probably find a price drop in November - and that would prob be the best time to take it because a price drop any later than will prob be selloff vacations and we wouldn't qualify for that rate. *fingers crossed. -

@@Icis We are getting married June 2015 so we just locked down our group rate. Our travel agent said to check frequently but we most likely won't see it drop until November 2014 or maybe April 2015. I hope the rate drops for you and your guests! My travel agent said that usually 90% of the weddings she handles have price drops. *fingers crossed! -
Awesome link!!! thank you for sharing @@acw271011 I can't wait to start planning the décor aspect.

@@Icis Did you have the price drop guarantee with Sunwing? -
I love this thread. such great ideas. I know that the hotel we are staying at provides a tote bag and I think I'm going to skip buying the tote bag and see if I can use the hotels instead! How did you guys deal with couples? did each person receive a tote bag or did you give one to single people and then one to a couple with things for both of them?

Plannig A Wedding And Hotel Isn't Even Opened
veryvalentine replied to NixSpade's topic in Newbies!!
Hi! We visited GSP last year and stayed in the Platinum suite Adults only section and it was amazing. We loved it so much that we went once in June and retuned again in September. The staff gave us a heads up about the new hotel at that time. Since we had made friends with them they were explaining the concept and it sounded awesome. Their website is up: yucatanplatinumsuites.com It officially opens this September 2014. Looks stunning! Oh and yes, they did have the adult section in the GSP but they are rebranding to be more kid friendly so the suites that once were adult only are not family suites. Woops - the suites that once were adult are *now family suites. -
Hi @@April2015 I just received prices for the princess. The prices were for 2012-2014 until October 2014 so I suspect that their pricing will come out this fall. November 2014- October 2015. I will write more detail later but I thought id share this info.

Plannig A Wedding And Hotel Isn't Even Opened
veryvalentine replied to NixSpade's topic in Newbies!!
I'm in a similar position with the Grand Sunset Princess. They are opening up a brand new hotel next door called the Platinum All suites Adults only complex. We love the GSP and were considering doing our wedding at the new hotel. A few things that are making us think it over is that they do not even have the wedding locations for me to start planning yet, they don't have the reception areas decided etc etc and they do not have any packages printed yet. I am having a june''15 wedding and these things need to be decided soon so we may just have the wedding at the GSP section and maybe honeymoon in the new area. It's too bad too because we wanted to experience the new area but I am also worried about the kinks etc etc and to bring 30 or more ppl to a hotel that is new to us and also it is very new to the staff as well makes me nervous. All the best and keep us posted on how it goes! -
Please Help! Family Being Awful About Wanting A Mexico D/w.
veryvalentine replied to Sophiaone95's topic in Newbies!!
I'm so sorry to read all these sad experiences. Ideally this is supposed to be such a happy time. And I'm sure many of you have been the supportive bridesmaid for many of your family and friends and you have this expectation that they will return the favour...at least by being supportive with the idea of a DW. When we decided to do a DW we really made peace with the idea that nobody would possibly come. We made peace with the idea that it could rain, that my I could be saying my vows with mascara running down my face due to rain and humidity and not necessarily tears. lol Ultimately, we decided it was about us and what we wanted. We could easily get married in our hometown and rent a hall for all our friends and fam...but it would be for them and not for us. It's so unfair to deal with such selfish people - but unfortunately some people forget what it feels like to be a bride and some people have not been there yet...so ultimately find some peace with your decision...at the very least you will be marrying and building a future with your chosen partner and that in itself is such a blessing...and you will be in paradise. I also suspect that while people may grunt about the DW idea, eventually when they see that others are going they will prob ended putting down the deposit because they won't want to miss out. I have been to a DW myself and it was the best time ever. Wishing you all some peace and comfort and happy Friday. -
@@calgarybride2015 Good idea! We were given the 2014 GrandSunset prices as a reference but payment isn't due til next year anyway so we can't pay upfront now and have the 2014 prices apply. They gave us a heads up of a 9% increase in some of the prices/packages which is annoying but I get it. We tried to lock in the prices at 2014 rates but it looks like they know how to avoid that.

I think you can find sparklers at Walmart. I found an address close to your resort: Walmart Poligono Sur, Lote 1-01, Manzana 68, Frida Kahlo, Avenida La Rioja, Cancun You could possibly rent a car or a taxi. It looks like a 30 min car ride. there is also playa del Carmen shopping which has walmarts as well as their local national chain stores that may carry them too. Please let me know how your hunt goes down there! Good luck!

@ctlind7 Your colours sounds so pretty! I can just picture the glittery gold against the coral! Make sure you post pics after your big day!!

I agree with @@peachykeen159 the rates are higher than normal when I booked my group rate this far out. There is a guaranteed price drop match through Sunwing so we will be stalking the prices for a price drop at some point. I have not been able to get the Wedding Package prices for 2015 from the Grand Sunset Princess. If anyone receives this info, please share I have requested it but I know it takes time.

Hi @@Sara1603 I'm a little late in answering to the thread but I felt like I needed to reply! I have visited the Grand Sunset Princess twice now. I went last year in June (2013) and loved it soooooo much that we returned again in September (2013). I have been to several resorts in Mexico & Jamaica and I truly can say that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the princess. The service was amazing. We got to know everyone and by the end of our first trip we knew staff names. On our return the staff remembered us and it just made our second trip even better. The food was amazing. There are 10 different restaurants - like how can someone not find something there for their personal taste! We also enjoyed the 24 hour room service (offered with Platinum rooms) and the Paella that was made right on the beach. It is such a classy hotel - we had fun getting ready for dinner and we enjoyed the pools and the maid service in our room was amazing. We felt safe our entire stay. We loved it soooo much that we decided that even though we wanted to try something new for our destination wedding we actually just booked our wedding at the Princess. We looked at different options we just couldn't find anything that we thought would be just as good yet different because we didn't find that they compared to the Princess. (just my opinion) The rooms are nice and modern- and if you do have any issues the hotel is really great at fixing things. I'm so sorry that the store clerk gave you that feedback. Who knows where her manners come from and if she is that rude to you, maybe she was rude at the hotel too. Negative people tend to have a hard time seeing the good everywhere. Chin up, you have an amazing venue for your wedding! Good luck and congrats!

@jh0510038 We are at the Grand Sunset Princess - June 2015. From what I understand several if not all resorts in the mayan Riviera have the same rule. It's soooo pretty though!!! lol I am going to be travelling to Mexico in October to do a site an inspection and I am also going to get familiar with the walmart near by to see what they have available. I will update to let you know if I find any sparklers.

Reading the previous comments it looks like it is a smooth and clean process. I'm tempted to do the renewal of the vows package to avoid this extra stress though. We really want to get legally married In mexico and not have it just be symbolic but I don't want the added stress of blood drawing. I feel like I'm already going to be nervous enough.

I feel the same way! We decided to have an engagement party and announce our destination location at the party and give our guests save the date momentos. We did register for the engagement party in the event that someone wanted to get us something - but we have been pretty clear about now shower. There is a year in between the engagement party and the wedding so I figured it spaces out the expenses and sets the mood for the big wedding event. We are going to have a taco station and Mexican themed décor to get our guests excited about the wedding. If someone insists on throwing a shower I guess there is nothing I can do, but I am 100% happy not to have one and would rather not put my guests through the expense so close to the wedding. We were thinking of having a night out during the destination trip for our bachelor/bachelorette night out.

Hey! Our wedding coordinator clarified that we cannot have any of the Chinese lanterns. It's too bad because it would have been so pretty - however- I totally get the dangers so we are trying to think of an alternative. I like the sparklers - but I have not heard back from the WC if they are allowed. I know that we'd have to forsure get them from a walmart in mexico. I'm not 100% sure they carry the same kind we have here. If anyone knows, please share!

Wow @@nehaanjaria your wedding was stunning! I love the setup you chose & your pictures are amzing! love! I have a question for you...do they have an alternative if it rains? Like what would they do? I'm in love with the setup at the Riviera Gazebo but reading your post makes me think that it might make more sense to do the sunset gazebo especially since we are considering the chill out for the reception. congrats!!

Hello ladies, I have a question out there for Grand Sunset Princess past brides/future brides. I have been looking into booking my wedding at this gorgeous hotel for 2015. I noticed that there is the Sunset Gazebo (part of the Chillout area) & the Riviera Gazebo which is located centrally on the beach. Can anyone give me more information or details on the Ocean Front location. I can't seem to find any information or pictures or pricing. I'm curious and would love to consider it. Any help would be greatly appreciated and pictures! V
