I am two years younger, but he looks at least 5 years younger than I do, haha! At 37 he still gets carded and when we first met, everyone thought I was robbing the cradle.

Anyone have a not so "magical" proposal?
lhills replied to KrystalDawn's topic in Share your Wedding & Engagement Stories!
I love reading about all these not so "magical" proposals, they're each perfect in their own special way! I'm pretty low key, so I never wanted a big ordeal of a proposal. My Fl carried the ring around for over a month trying to plan the perfect moment until became apparent that he wouldn't have the chance to do it for almost another month due to our conflicting schedules. We were fishing for pike (we are hard core fly Fisher-people, that's how we met), me standing in the boat behind him, it started to rain so he asked me to grab his rain coat from under my seat. I started to throw it over his shoulders and he says "no, there's a box in the pocket, can you grab it for me?" I assume he's got a box of flies, but as soon as I felt the box I knew what it was. Immediately I said "what the f**k is this?" Without even turning around, he says "you know what the f**k that is..." LOL! He asked if I'd marry him, but I felt the need to bring my daughter into the conversation, she was in the front of the boat and completely oblivious as to what had just happened. I filled her in and asked what she thought.... She replied "let me think about it....." After what seemed like an eternity, she declared "you can marry him only if he promises to kill all the spiders, forever" haha! I couldn't imagine a more perfect scenario! @Lilgabri03, our wedding is on May 10th and we're having our reception on the sky deck, I'll post photos when we get back! There isn't much info out there on Azul Fives so I will do my best to post a complete review with photos, etc. @, yes, Lomas is out of control! We are bringing everything with us, I'm not giving them another dime of my money if I don't have to! I'm making my own bouquets, which has kind of turned into a disaster but only because I can't make up my mind, haha! I started out making feather bouquets but decided that I really like the brooch bouquets... Then today I saw a very simple bouquet made from just calla lilies and I thought to myself, well that's pretty fantastic... Ugh, someone shoot me now. Anyway, back to your question, Real Touch makes awesome high end artificial flowers. If I were doing a floral bouquet (which I might still do, lol), I would definitely order these and make my own arrangements. I've also bought some really nice hydrangeas from Micheal's, they have a few different styles but if you look close enough you'll find they've got a high end line made by Ashland that are much nicer than the cheap stems.

Feeling guilty about DW
lhills replied to midsummerbride's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
I'm feeling a ton of guilt over the whole DW thing... So guilty that I ended up blowing my budget to help some who couldn't afford the trip. I just have to keep telling myself that we have family scattered across the US and Canada, it would have been inconvenient for the majority of our guests in any location, and we would have spent just as much money (if not more) to do it anywhere else. I've never been to a DW before but from what I've heard, once it's all said and done, even the guests who complained the loudest will admit they had a blast. I am very much looking forward to hearing this from a select few of our guests. -
We're avoiding the beach for our ceremony as well. Althought the thought of it is nice, the practicality of it, not so much. Our resort has a dock with a gazebo at the end of it, our guest list is small enough that we're able to do the ceremony there. I'm only slightly concerned about wind and noise from the water drowning us out... But whatver, I'm not one to stress over every little detail being perfect, we'll make a good time of it no matter what happens.

Feather Vs. Brooch Bouquets
lhills replied to lhills's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
Thanks for the feedback @@rvalenka! Funny you mention the family revolting... I wonder what some thought of our sugar skull invites, lol! The ones in my family that would have thought poorly of it aren't coming anyway. I say you should go for it, it's your wedding, do it up the way you want to! -
Nice work, Emma! There isn't a program out there that can match the effectiveness of a good personal trainer! I was also shamefully unathletic and overweight, started seeming a trainer last year (before our engagement) and it is quite possibly the best thing I've ever done for myself. Keep up the good work, I look forward to hearing more about your progress! Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk

Hi ladies, I'm looking for some help, the FI and I can't seem to agree on which style of bouquet looks better. I find this hilarious, mostly because I didn't think he'd care. I'm a bit concerned though, maybe he's right, I thought I'd ask for an unbiased opinion. Here are the two bouquets I created: #1 This is the feather bouquet, I love the curled feather look and I think it goes well with our funky dia de los muertos theme. While I think the elegance of a floral bouquet is nice.... It's just not "me" or "us". My fi prefers this bouquet, he thought it was perfect as is (although I felt it still needed work). #2 I love, love, LOVE the brooch bouquet look, yesterday I was browsing Michael's (I'm a regular there these days) and noticed they were having a 40% off sale on all jewelry items. I noticed one brooch I liked and it quickly snowballed out of control... Right out of control, ugh. This is the end result, which in my mind is not complete, I think it needs more. I tried to incorporate a few of the feather flowers I'd made, just to keep the fi happy, lol. On another note, I think my fi got a little jealous of all the feather work I've been doing. We're both avid fly fishermen/women (that's how we met), so he pulled out his vice last night and made his own boutonniere, here's a pic of his "first prototype". So ladies, please, help us settle this disagreement! Which bouquet do you like better, and go easy on me, I'm not usually the creative type, the brooch boquet is really only about 75% done, but I didn't want to put any more effort into it if I'm heading down the wrong path. HELP! P.S. Don't tell me what you think I want to hear, I like honesty! In the end I'll probably just do what I want anyway, but I still want to know what others think, lol.

Wow, sounds like you're really on the ball when it comes to planning. We're just over a month away and I'm still scrambling, haha! I thought about bringing our own sheers for the chairs as well, but not sure what size either, I'll let you know if I figure it out. I looooooove the ruffled chair covers, but that seems like a ton of work. We're not doing a package either, I'm bringing most items. We're keeping everything pretty low key, no decor for the ceremony, I figure we're on a dock out in the ocean, why mess with nature's beauty? We only have 5 tables in total for the reception, and my centerpieces are very simple, rustic painted mason jars with hydrangeas. We're going with a vintage theme with sort of a dia de los muertos kick to it. I've been working on our bouquets the last couple of nights. I think I'll start another thread to get some feedback from the rest of the ladies, the FI and I are in a bit of a disagreement over them, lol!

Congrats to you too, @! 150 people? Oh my!! We've got only 30 joining us, I was hoping for a small group (I hate, hate, hate being the centre of attention, lol), I think 30 is perfect for us! We're getting married on the dock, just barely squeaked in under the maximum, and our reception is on the sky deck. The hotel looks amazing, and I know a couple of people who have been there, they all agree it is fantastic! I was most concerned about the food... We stayed at Moon Palace a few years back and I was sick of the food by the 3rd day. I'm told this will not be the case at Azul Fives. Who is/was your coordinator? I've been dealing with Marta, like all the others, she isn't quick to reply but does answer my questions. I feel a bit lost in the whole process, you'd think the coordinators would offer up a bit more info, but I seem to only get answers to my questions and minimal relevant information. Our final payment is due tomorrow, eeek! I hope I got everything covered! I wasn't able to get much of a discount on rooms... the deluxe rooms ended up being around $165 per person per night based on double occupancy, and $200ish for single occupancy. I worked with a travel agent and am getting ZERO perks in terms of room credits... I got a free spa package... Whooptie-freakin-doo. Our guests could have booked on expedia for the same rate. Are you making use of the Memorable Moment's packages? I may have considered it, but we blew our budget (and then some) to help some of our guests make the trip. I'd love to see some pics, I'll fire you an email, thanks so much for offering! I'm stoked on the hotel too, it does look pretty amazing, and less pricey than the other Azul hotels. We booked a sky suite, can't wait to make good use of that!!

Hi there, I've been creeping this site since last summer and finally decided to sign up when I found your post tonight. You're right, there aren't a lot of Azul Fives brides out there, if there are, they're not posting here and I figure I've been part of the problem, lol! There is a 2014 brides thread here: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/topic/75983-azul-fives-brides-2014/page-5, but activity is really slow. I'd love to see some reviews, seems there are lots of reviews for other resorts. We're heading off to Azul Fives for our wedding on May 10th, I'm so excited, despite the roller coaster we've been on for the last 8 months. My biggest disappointment so far... Karisma Hotels no longer allows the donkey at their resorts, haha! Ok, so there have been other issues along the way, but we were really looking forward to meeting the donkey. Hope your planning is going well! I'll try to be a bit more active around here in hopes of stirring up some activity for us! Cheers, Lindsay
