  1. Love the save the date! You guys are a gorgeous couple We're considering doing the same thing. We're going to send out save the dates to everyone that has all the info on it and a link to our website. I think I'm only going to send invites to people that are coming with more details about the actual wedding events. It seems like a waste of money to send to people that are not coming, but all the etiquette articles I read say that you're supposed to send out a formal invite too - argh. We deliberately didn't put "formal invitations to follow" on our save the dates in case we don't! Does your FB page have an rsvp option? That's why we went with the knot website.... we're figuring people would rsvp to us after getting the STD
  2. That price sounds good! Can you PM me or post who your TA is? It sounds like our contracts will be similar My family is hounding me too for details because we're all ready to book! We're trying to keep the price under 2000 too
  3. Haha just came across this thread. I've been struggling to hit 150 and I want to because I want to see the attachments! My wedding is in December 2014 and I think I'll have everything planned before I hit 150 as well
  4. I think we all want to get out of the city after such a terrible winter! Have you decided your hotel yet? I am 100% going to book with Styling Trio. She has been super responsive and I agree that the airbrush just seems worth it to me. I'm afraid of my face melting in Mexico otherwise haha. I'm just waiting to lock in my wedding date before I officially book them. Are you going to get the trial, or just do it the day of? I'm debating this now
  5. @@kcole123 - Our TA told us we wouldn't be able to get rates for April until April hit - so you are very close! She did tell us though that the rates around that time are good. My fiance and I are dealing with this right now as well. It's been a bit frustrating because we're hesitant to lock in our date until we have the group booking reserved and ready to go. We chose a small hotel, and our TA has told us that inventory might be a problem, hence why we haven't locked in our date yet. We are aiming for a December 2014 wedding, so we feel like the prices are probably as low as they're going to get at this point We have a similar booking as @@kmk2016. Our TA is going to reserve us a block of 15 rooms and 30 airline seats and our price will be locked in for 90 days. Guests will pay a deposit with the balance due 60 days before the trip. My fiance and I will be putting a $400 deposit total to reserve this. If we need more than this, we are going to request for more rooms and seats and just hope they have them available! @@kmk2016 - the Azul Sensatori was my dream hotel!! I love how the weddings look there. But the prices are a bit too high for our guests, so we decided on Beach Palace instead. I chose it solely because the Sky deck reminds me of the Sky terrace at the Azul! You are going to have a stunning wedding
  6. Hello everyone, Decided to post an introductory post! I just got engaged 3 weeks ago and am already in the thick of planning - I'm definitely a type A person with these things! We're hoping to get married in 2014 so we're aiming for a December wedding. Otherwise because I am going back to school next year, we'd have to wait until April and I would rather not wait that long if possible. We've been dating for almost 5 years already, so I would like to have this thing become official already . I've always wanted a destination wedding, especially after going to wedding after wedding the last few years (I'm at that age where all my friends are getting married!). While it would be nice to have all my friends be able to attend, the thought of all that time, energy and money spent on literally one day is hard for me to swallow. If we were to have a wedding in Toronto, it'd be over 200 people for sure and I've never been comfortable with being the centre of attention. Luckily my fiance was the one to actually suggest a destination wedding the night we got engaged, and I've been running with it ever since! And the thought of having a week of memories, an amazing time with family and friends, AND our wedding to be in such a beautiful destination seems like a win win situation for me! I also like how we will be surrounded by our closest family and friends, and I'm hoping everyone has an amazing time Right now we're actively planning a Cancun wedding at the Beach Palace for December. Hoping to lock down our date and group booking this week so I can send out the Save the Dates I already have ready to go . We were originally considering Moon Palace, Dreams Riviera and Azul Sensatori, but ultimately chose Beach Palace because we love the location, the beach is important to us, and Palace seems to have such good perks if we can get enough rooms booked! This forum has been a godsend since finding it. It has been SO helpful reading about real brides planning their weddings in these places. I am trying to get my post count up to 150 so I can see all of the attachments!
  7. Can you link them together in some way with colour? I wanted to have more fun save the dates too to reflect the location and destination aspect, but I'm planning on going a bit more formal for my invitations. I'm going to make sure both have coral to link them together
  8. I just bought my dress! Haha within the first week of getting engaged, I was already making dress appointments . I think buying the dress was one of the things I was most looking forward to! I debated a while about what style to get, but then decided to go w/ the shape I love but still try to keep it light weight. I got lucky and scored a Monique Lhuillier sample! It's the Sahara from her 2012 collection. I LOVE it and cannot wait to wear it - it's very light and romantic, which is exactly what I wanted. And I'm so happy with what I paid The other dress I was in love with was a Martina Liana, but I was afraid the fabric was going to be too heavy for Mexico, so I decided to get the ML Sahara. If I was having my wedding in November in Toronto, I would have gotten this one: I love blush dresses! I think they are so gorgeous and romantic. My all time favourite dream dress is the Monique Lhuillier Peony in blush if i could afford it! I was very close to getting one, but I've found the quality makes a huge difference. I tried on 2 Maggie Sottero blush ones that were AMAZING in real life and I was so close to buying one. But in pics, it didn't look as nice and even looked a bit tacky/cheap. So I decided to go away from it. If you go blush, try to see if the salon will let you take pics so you can see how it will look in pictures
  9. I was going to use the resort to save money (Beach Palace), but I've decided to go with Styling Trio for peace of mind. I like the pics they've done and I like that they use airbrush makeup. I know in Mexico they also commonly apply their makeup heavier than I personally like. I"m also Asian and I want to make sure that the artist has worked with Asian eyes and skin tones before which Styling Trio has. It's definitely a ton of money though! And if I do a hair and makeup trial as well, it's over $200 on top of what I'd be paying for the day . So I think I"m going to just splurge for the day, and have them come in early enough that we can change things if I don't like it It's kind of crazy that makeup and hair prices are more than what I'd be paying at home in Toronto!
  10. Please post pics of your weddings, May girls! Especially interested in seeing how you utilize the space for your receptions and how you design your tables . I am debating between having it at the Sky deck or Palenque terrace but it will prob. depend on our numbers! I just googled pics of Jorge and oh my. All I can is this company definitely hires a specific type of host haha. We had Luis 2 years ago and he was fantastic as well. My gfs are already requesting that we do the Cuncrawl again
  11. i've been debating this too. I actually really like looking at people's engagement pics even more than their wedding pics because you see people more in their natural element. That being said, a lot of people's pics do look super posed and cheesy. I would like to get pics done of my fiance and I, but I don't think he will want to. I also already made our save the dates and website just using regular vacation pics. I do plan on doing a trash the dress shoot though - I love how they look!
  12. Looks good to me! I'm looking forward to seeing your table and ceremony set up - sounds lovely. I did the Cuncrawl for a friend's bachelorette and it was a blast. All I can say is request Luis if he is still working with them - your single girlfriends will thank you for it! haha The only thing I would question is if that is enough time for pictures for you. Also, sunset isn't til 8pm it looks like in May and your reception begins at 7pm. I think a lot of photographers say the best hour for pictures is the hour before sunset - not sure if this is a big deal for you or not, but something to think about
  13. We're using Minted for ours. They aren't as cheap as some like Vistaprint, but I thought the prices were very reasonable and the designs are much more creative
  14. Sure sending it now. What date are you getting married in December? And are you at the BP? I'm right now trying to finalize everything, but we're running into all of these obstacles! We're looking at the 16 or 17th right now
  15. Yes I will talk to a WC once I get my date locked down! But that's good to know about what the vendor fee includes I do - let me PM it to you now
  16. This thread has been really helpful! I'm in the process of booking my Dec 2014 wedding here and hoping to finalize the date this week! I've been looking at the different vendors and reading through old threads, and it seems they keep changing who their preferred vendors are as well which makes it difficult to keep track of! This is who I have recorded so far that are preferred vendors (no additional vendor fees), with a few alternatives that have good rates. Is this correct? Are there any others? Makeup/Hair - Styling Trio DJ - PSAV, JSAV (Alt) DJ Doremixx Flowers/Decor - Grupo Gama, Zuniga? (Alt) Planner 1 Also a question. I know before some people have booked rooms for their photographer - Is BP still allowing this or is there a minimum of nights required? Also, is the $800 vendor fee inclusive of the whole vendor group (eg. photographer and assistant), or is it per person??
  17. can you send these to me too, jackie? I'm trying to hit the 150 posts but I think I'm more of a reader than a poster! Thanks - very appreciated!
  18. Thanks for copying parts of the contract - very helpful. I've been doing so much reading and I was positive that I hadn't seen that we'd have to pay for the extra which is a huge selling point, but my TA was the one that said there's a cap :s. I asked her to double check. We haven't actually booked yet - we're narrowing down our choices and this was a big selling point for the Palaces! Just wanted to verify
  19. Hello! I've been researching so much about all of the different wedding packages at different hotels that I think the information is getting muddled in my head! My fiance and I are focused right now on the Beach Palace or Moon Palace hotels. We feel like we'll be able to hit the 75+ room nights, which means unlimited private events. Now we thought this meant that we wouldn't have to pay for the food/drink at the wedding reception, etc. and this really attracted us as at other hotels like Dreams, the cost is quite high if you have over the 20 or so included people in the wedding package. Is there a cap to how many people can be included in the private events at the Palace resorts before having to pay extra? I must have missed this. My TA is saying that the cap is 30, and that we will have to pay extra for any on top of this. Can someone please confirm to me if this is true, and how much that extra cost would be? I'm going through all my brochure and literature now to find this and I'm having trouble Thanks!
  20. I went with silk chiffon too - I got the ones from J Crew. Wasn't picky about design, and just grabbed the styles they had on sale in the colours I wanted for an extra 50% off! Got them for about $75 after shipping and duties!
  21. I was at the David's bridal in Toronto on Friday and I didn't see it there (but I wasn't actively looking for it either). The salespeople were really nice - maybe try asking if they can order it in for you? Or if they can locate one for you in the province Good luck! Beautiful dress and that price is amazing
  22. This is very helpful so far! Thank you I think I will definitely take on the advice of the sales assistants and maybe try to find the shape and style I love in a more lightweight fabric. I'll want to do pics on the beach too and the bustle idea to get around is great
  23. Hello everyone! I'm hoping some of you will have some advice for me. My fiance and I are starting to plan a destination wedding for mid December 2014 in Cancun Mexico. I started dress shopping but i'm having trouble deciding what type of dress I should get. I know for destination weddings, they usually suggest having a simpler dress out of a lightweight, breathable fabric without a train. Problem is all the dresses I LOVE and want to wear on my wedding day are mermaid/fit and flare styles with BIG trains. Any advice about if I will be way too hot wearing this type of dress, or if I should go for something simpler? We are probably going to have the ceremony in a gazebo and the reception on a terrace or pool deck. Also, we're planning for December in Cancun which is cooler. The weather forecast says the average is 28 C (82 F) during the days and 20 (68 F) in the night times which doesn't sound too hot at all - it sounds like what our summers here in Toronto are. Any advice would be great!
