Pre-Wedding party...what to call it?
tygrrlily replied to Italy2013's topic in At Home Reception (AHR)
I love this idea and it sounds like it will be a lot of fun. I think some people have called them "Bon Voyage" parties -

Bridesmaid Dresses
tygrrlily replied to kdnolan's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I went with silk chiffon dresses from J Crew. I bought them for my bridesmaids (traditional in my culture), so I didn't want to spend crazy amounts esp. because I'd be getting them gifts as well. I wasn't picky on style as long as I could find them in the colour/fabric I wanted (coral). I ended up paying about $75 each and the girls love them! I got them on sale, and they were an additional 50% off -
@@kcole123 - I found a couple more positive reviews on her, so I'm definitely hopeful! This year will fly right by! That's awesome that you have your rate locked in. Your guests will have a lot of time to book and pay it off! How many are you expecting to come?

Show us your wedding dress!
tygrrlily replied to Jennifer's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
@@forevertogether - Yes! He cooked me a romantic 3 course meal and the cake was our dessert. It was even cuter because he's never cooked dinner for me before (in almost 5 years!) and it's always been a running joke between us. I thought it was super cute too You look beautiful in that dress! I love that pink belt - it is going to look so good in pics! -
@@kmk2016 - Ughh this makes me even more upset! She's been acting like I requested the hardest thing. @@kcole123 - Thank you again for the recommendation. She's already replied introducing herself. I know it's Friday afternoon though so I won't really expect to hear details until the next week. But i'm optimistic My finace has said that worse comes to worse, we can push our wedding back to the Spring of next year, but I'm really hoping we can still do a December wedding. Thank you ladies!

I was using destinationweddings.com, but I really should have did more research first. This forum has been a godsend. My TA has been okay with giving me info about resorts, but I've been unhappy with her response time and answering my questions in a direct manner. In particular, it's taken a very long time to get quotes and she keeps telling me it's because I'm requesting hard things. And based on what I've read here, what I'm asking for is pretty normal. My family and friends are hounding me for details and we're all pretty eager to book So I'm in the process of finding another agent. I've emailed one that was recommended on this board, and I am hoping she will be able to help me as we want to marry December of this year!

I had some friends that were worried too, but honestly it was very safe. You travel as a group and they make sure that you are well taken care of. Maybe you can show them all of the good reviews? Most of the fears any friends had about Mexico dispelled when we got to Cancun. They saw how safe and clean everything was in the hotel zone, and felt better about it!

I've just put the alert on with Canadian Tire. Thanks girls!

@@kcole123 - I just sent an email to your travel agent! I'm hoping she can help us. I am pretty frustrated with the TA we have now Are any of the rest of you doing different length stays? We inquired about 5 nights and 7 nights for our guests, and apparently that's the difficult issue. The bulk of our group is staying 5 nights, but some people would like to stay for 7. Reading through these forums, it seems like a lot of people have people staying for different lengths. Not sure if this is more of an American thing?

Looks like there are a bunch of girls from Calgary. Any other Toronto/GTA brides out there? It'd be great to exchange ideas on local agents, places for decorations (shared shipping?!), AHRs, etc. I'm from Toronto and planning for a December 2014 wedding!

We're just under 2 years apart. I'm 30 and he's 32

Thank you girls. I'm going to see how she replies today, then move on, i think. I've recorded the name of the TAs you've suggested Apparently the issue is inventory at the hotel because we chose a smaller one with under 300 rooms. I'm really hoping we don't have to decide on another hotel again because that took us a while to go through!

Hidden Corset
tygrrlily replied to kmk2016's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I didn't even consider going the custom dress route, but perhaps I should have! There were definite elements of many different dresses I loved. I don't know much about clothing though so choosing fabrics would be hard for me. I think I'm also just impatient and wanted to have the dress settled quickly. I dragged my mom and MOH to 6 dress shops in 7 weeks and I think we're all happy it's over The ruching/bodice of that dress is SO flattering. Is that what you're planning on doing with yours? That's one thing I wish my dress had a bit more of, but I'm ultimately very happy with what I ended up with. The inner corset is definitely a viable option for you then! I do wish mine had something with a bit more support - it has very light boning. -
Dress, Hair, Make up

@@acw271011 GPR looks lovely! I know what you mean about privacy though. That was important to me as well, which is why I was really drawn to the hotels with private rooftop places for ceremony (azul sensatori and beach palace). From what I've read about people with beach weddings, it seems like most people are fairly respectful of walking around the cermonies There are so many beautiful resorts, my head was really spinning trying to read about all of them! I'm still mulling over the trial - feeling cheap haha. I'll probably see how much we end up paying on everything else before I decide on that. I do like the natural style makeup too - I want to look like myself, just a better version . I looked at Tania Tagie as well, but Styling Trio has an agreement with my resort apparently so I can avoid paying the vendor fee. I think that locked it in for me -
Hidden Corset
tygrrlily replied to kmk2016's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I tried on a few of those and they did actually act like a corset! It had this inner flap thing that you hook together before you zip it up. But I found the dresses with the lace up back are probably the most flattering on the bodice because they are pulled so super tight. The inside corset thing worked, but it didn't quite give the same effect. BUT it is still super flattering. The dress I ended up with ended up not having this, and I've been thinking about what undergarments to wear. My stomach is relatively flat (haha), but it doesn't quite compare to what a corset does to it. BUT i will say, the ones without either are a lot more comfortable to wear - something to take into consideration with the heat. One of my runner up dresses had what you're talking about. It's the Essence D1541 dress. It looks great in pics but I went against it because the fabric wasn't quite as nice to me in person. But the bodice fit beautifully and it still really holds you in without the corset back. -
I actually am using a local TA - I am using destination weddings . com that I found online and they matched me with a local TA. Our TA has been helpful at giving me info and answering questions, but the actual booking process has been a bit frustrating because I'd like to get this thing locked in already and feel like we've been going back and forth for a while now about this. I'm not sure if this is just the way it is, or if it has to do with the TA. I'm going to give mine a couple more days because she has been good at getting me info, but I'm definitely going to take the names of the agents you Calgary girls have worked with.

So happy to have found this thread! I didn't even see the Canadian sub group at the very bottom of the forum til just now haha. It does seem like Canadian booking is different from the US! We're from Toronto, and we're currently trying to lock in our wedding date and our group booking for Dec 2014. Our problem is that we chose a small hotel (Beach palace) and Transit holidays/Sunwing, etc. don't have a lot of inventory! So it's been back and forth for over a week now. We don't want to reserve our date until we're sure we can have the wedding there. Very frustrating, and like many of you, I'm getting hounded by my family and some friends because December 2014 is pretty close, and they're seeing good rates on Expedia! Are any of you running into that problem of guests wanting to book with a site like Expedia? It looks like the Expedia prices are a couple hundred cheaper than what we will be able to offer them. We obviously want them to book with us because we want to achieve room perks and not have to pay extra for the actual wedding, but not sure how we're going to do that.
