  1. Congrats!! We've been responding to each other's posts all over the forum (think we're both trying to get to 150? haha) but I wanted to say it here too! I love that you are planning early - your wedding is going to be perfect as a result and you have chosen my fave resort. I'm impatient and trying to get it locked in this year haha, but it'd probably be better if we did push it back. And over 40 isn't old at all - you and your partner will have a lifetime together, so why not start it exactly the way you want
  2. We considered both as well, but we ultimately went with Cancun because there are more options we thought for guests that want to get off resort. Also, our TA told us the beaches in the Cancun/Riviera area are nicer/less rocky than the Cabo ones. Finally, it was the selection of hotels that did it for us Good luck with your planning!
  3. Congrats and welcome!! Happy planning
  4. Congrats! Read as many reviews as you can and look at all the wedding info and pics and try to decide if you can see yourself getting married there!

Congrats on your engagement! We decided to have a destination wedding because we're both among the last in our circles to get married, and we've attended so many weddings over the last few years that we wanted to avoid the stress, do something different, and have a week of memories instead of just a day. Cost is also a factor - It's hard for me to imagine justify spending 50k on a one day event. Our family and friends mostly seem supportive so far, and while we won't have every single person we'd want attend, I think most of our closest family and friends are happy to attend. We've just started planning as well and I've actually found that planning a destination wedding has its own stresses and headaches. Right now we're trying to lock down our wedding day and choose a resort that we want to get married at, but is also affordable for our guests. Right now, the two don't seem to be matching up (haha), which is stressing me out. Also, I'm pretty Type A regardless of whether the wedding is held at home or in Mexico, so I know I'm going to be picky about things like decor. But when I think about saying our vows in a beautiful and romantic setting, it makes it seem more worth it to me. I think some couples plan on some type of AHR or bon voyage trip to try and assuage some of that guilt. We haven't gotten that far yet, but I don't think I'd want a full out AHR as to me, I want my wedding to be in Mexico period. But we might have some type of more relaxed party as a celebration - just not a formal sit down. Hope that helps! Welcome to the forums - this place is great
  6. I don't want to get married on the beach either. I much prefer the gazebo/rooftop/terrace locations with the beach in the background. I don't want sand to get everywhere - bleh. I think we'll take pics for sure on the beach, but I specifically don't want it for my ceremony. AND of course, to be able to wear heels
  7. @@malyna - It makes me look boxy too! I actually found that I looked better without it. I also found it SO uncomfortable
  8. I look forward to seeing your pics at the Beach Palace!
  9. I think my post count has doubled in the last few days, but I still have a while to go! Hopefully by next week sometime I'll have 150
  10. @@danielleandryan2015 - Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely mention that if someone does come to me with the Expedia comments. I obviously would like people to book with my TA so we can receive wedding benefits as well
  11. Good tip - I'll put something similar about price watching. I'm still waiting for my quote and hoping that it will be the lowest price, but from what I saw before, Expedia was actually offering the same flight + hotel deal for a few hundred cheaper than packaged vacations. So it would have actually been cheaper for guests to book through Expedia which would not count toward the group booking. But I haven't received my group quote yet from my new agent and am hoping it is lower than everything else
  12. Did anyone listen to the Webinar last Saturday? I had wanted to but I wasn't home unfortunately. Was there any good info given?
  13. Can someone email me the info please too. I requested the info a few days ago, but haven't gotten anything back from them yet - lilyluu 83 @ gmail . com (no spaces) Thanks!
  14. Good read. I was debating doing this too! Is anyone putting anything along the lines of a "if you find a cheaper rate, please contact the TA to see if they can price match it" or are you just leaving it empty? I'm not sure if I word it that way if people will be more inclined to look elsewhere haha.
  15. I'm not planning on doing the garter toss either, but like you, my FI loves them so I'll get a special one for him
  16. The necklace you got is very pretty too - you are going to look absolutely stunning!
  17. Omg, I just found this thread and I LOVE it! Your elopement sounds so so romantic. I love how much detail you are putting into everything - it is going to be so wonderful! I esp love the sequin table cloth and ombre cake! Can you tell me where this necklace is from - your original inspiration pic. I LOVE it And I totally bookmarked your cake topper page!
  18. Hello and congratulations! I'm in the early planning stages too so thought I'd answer some of your questions We are from Toronto and chose Mexico because of all the all inclusive resorts, and because there are a lot of fun options for people that aren't beach/resort people (mayan ruins, tours, ec.). We thought about doing it somewhere a bit more exotic, but the cost would have been a lot higher. We also like that the flight is short and direct I think my bridesmaids are still going to have a shower and bachelorette for me. i told them I want to keep the costs down for people. My fiance's friends are big spenders and they are probably going to Vegas for his, even though we are doing a destination wedding I chose to have a small wedding party (just 2 bridesmaids) because I wanted to keep things intimate and costs down. I paid for their dresses, but they will be wearing their own shoes and paying for their own hair/makeup (if they want to get it done). We are planning on registering for gifts because we know that some of the people that will not be able to attend will probably get us things. But we haven't done this yet and when we do, we'll register for things with a wide price range Best advice is to get a good travel agent as they will help you a lot! And don't be afraid to switch agents if you have to. I'm using my 2nd agent now Good luck!
  19. @@cubanaboliviana - Beautiful! You look so happy wearing the dress - that says it all
  20. Haha np! I wear a lot of skirts/dresses and do this all the time! Just try it out sometime before your wedding to make sure it works for you
  21. Haha just swipe some deodorant or body glide on your thighs! It works really well I hate stockings too
  22. Yay so many Toronto ladies! I'm hoping to get married at the Beach Palace, but we're going through some booking issues but will hopefully have it resolved this week! @@acw271011 - I LOVE etsy - I have spent so many hours on it browsing everything! @@LiannaBanana - I'm not sure if Dominican is like Mexico, but in Mexico it seems like you can do either.
