@@forevertogether - I'm so sorry to hear about that! That is super stressful. Do you think they might change their minds down the road? As the wedding comes closer, maybe they'll realize how much they want to see their son's wedding. Maybe they're saying that right now hoping that you'll change your mind? I think it's super nice of you to offer to pay 50% for his sister. My FI and I are very lucky. We actually didn't even consider a DW until our families told us they prefer it! But we are getting complaints about cost/price. Your rate actually sounds really reasonable to me Good luck!!

Chair Sashes - Organza Or Satin?
tygrrlily replied to Rainmaker's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
Those are great options! I think our resort has those white folding garden chairs which I'm okay with if my FI won't go for the Tiffany chairs. If we had to use the chair covers, I think I'd be a lot more insistent -

Harpist
tygrrlily replied to Pablou's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
I think a harpist would be lovely! Very classy. Have you spoken to your WC? They can probably source one for you (otherwise I'd assume you have to pay a high vendor fee if you bring one in?) -

2015 Brides In Cancun?
tygrrlily replied to Pablou's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
@@mazarin - If you're flexible with your dates, I'd probably try to do it after this because Jan - March is generally high season because of Spring break/March break. I am looking at December 2014 from Toronto and it is considerably cheaper than Feb (like 500 less for the same resort!) -
I'm new to the site too - welcome! This site is a wealth of information so hopefully it will help you out A Brazil wedding sounds fantastic!

Yes @@kmk2016 has good advice! Different TAs really do get different quotes. Our 2nd TA has been much more responsive and she's given us a quote that is 100 less than our old TA. On top of that, we wanted to keep our costs below a certain costs for guests. At Palace resorts, there's a promo where you can get 1 credit for every 11 booked. So we've decided to redistribute the credits to the whole group instead of keeping them for ourselves so the resort price is more reasonable for everyone. And that way we get to have the wedding at the resort we want and benefit from people booking under our group package!

@@risken - Please post if you are successful with this! We have a few kids and the kid rate is a bit of a sticking point. My sister is going to have to pay over 1000 for my 3 year old nephew Can someone also please send me the approved Palace vendor pamphlets. I'd love to see prices, etc. so I can start to plan. Thank you! lilyluu 83 @ gmail . com (no spaces)

@@gannonham - I'm going to have to check out Dollarama when I get around to think about OOT bags! I've been looking at some of the US companies, but shipping is crazy. Luckily I'm not too far from the border - I will prob ship a lot of things to Buffalo and just drive down to pick them up!

I'm going to have to look into this more! thanks for the tip

Resort Wedding Receptions
tygrrlily replied to lcwitek's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
Yes everyone seems to be a bit flabbergasted when I tell them our projected costs. I think there's this assumption that destination wedding means free. Resorts should definitely offer larger packages, and esp. since we're all staying at the resort and paying a ton of money for AI already. The biggest package I've seen is at the Paradisus. Their tailor made is actually for 42 people... but the package costs 12K (along w/ a lot of other stuff admittedly) Are there any off resort places in the Cancun/Riviera area that are like the Jellyfish in Punta Cana? -
Chair Sashes - Organza Or Satin?
tygrrlily replied to Rainmaker's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
We totally have the same taste . I've been trying to tell my FI that I think Tiffany/Chiavari chairs are totally worth the upgrade but I'm not sure he's buying it . And yes, tied vertically! -

tygrrlily replied to Natural's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
@@MrandMrsBonitto2016 - Yes! I think I'm in love with Jellyfish, but I added up what it'll cost for 50 guests and it seems really high. I know people rave about the food, but the food and alcohol prices are more than what I'd be paying here in Toronto. But I do love the way it looks and I think it'd be such a memorable wedding for guests I'm deciding between this and Beach Palace in Cancun. I suppose I should narrow down my country first -
Chair Sashes - Organza Or Satin?
tygrrlily replied to Rainmaker's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
Haha this made me laugh. Can only imagine if I asked my FI his opinion on chair sashes . I prefer the organza ones if doing all the chairs, or the satin ones maybe just for the aisle row. I like when they're just on the aisle chairs personally- looks classier to me. I don't really like the look of all the bright sashes on the white chair covers, but that's me and I hate chair covers . I don't think you need to match your dress though! i don't think I've ever looked at a pic and was struck by whether the fabric matched the dress or not -

@@MrandMrsBonitto2016 - No not yet. I'm still feeling it out to see if it's in the budget! Im looking for December 2014 though and I'm wondering if these are the prices moving forward 2015 on... if other 2014 brides didn't pay these, I'm going to see if I can get her to honour the lower prices hopefully -

Jellyfish Restaurant
tygrrlily replied to Natural's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
Hmm Mayte has just sent me pricing info in new, different looking brochures labelled 2014, and some of the prices are higher than the previous sheet I got from someone here. The decoration fee for under 50 people is 1750 for example, and there's a new "wedding planner fee" of 350 or 500. Does anyone know anything about this - is this meant more for 2015? I'm booking for December 2014 -

Thank you for sending it! @@Mrsoats - I spent 2 hours reading through this thread! Quoting from someone like 50 pages ago - The tax is only charged on the food and drink and whether you pay by AMEX or cash the tax must be paid. It is the law for all DR restaurants. All the vendor fees, restaurant rental, decor, etc do not have tax on them. -
Haha I have those worries too. You guys are in 2016 though which is a lot of time for your guests to plan and save . And I think it's true that the people that will come will come regardless. Sensatori is amazing - my top choice for that area for sure! I'm actually looking at the Paradisus hotels now... and even considering Dominican! I think the more I research, the more I second guess myself
-
I don't think it's actually that much cheaper for guests, but I think the weddings are cheaper because Palace has more perks. My TA said that Karisma hotels have the best customization though so you can get the specific look you want. I LOVE the Azul Sensatori - I basically chose the Beach Palace because the Sky Terrace reminds me of the Azul's terrace haha. I saw this photoshoot and fell in love w/ it - amazing! http://www.lifeimagesblog.com/mexico-destination-wedding-featured-on-wedluxe-mandy-ryan/press-media-awards-publications But golf/included green fees is a big thing for us, so my fiance made me stop looking at the Azul. We actually still haven't booked BP yet and are considering some other resorts now too . The balancing of what we want vs. what we thinks our guests will pay is very hard! But I'm still trying to make BP work
