  1. We're thinking of asking my fiancés brother, and maybe have my siblings do readings or something. Think it'd be nice to have someone meaningful do it for us (symbolic too).
  2. @@calgarybride2015 - that sounds great! Please post pics whenever you finish with them - would love to see the end result
  3. Oops sorry - a pashmina is a type of wide scarf! Our wedding is in December so it might get a bit chilly in the evenings (for Mexico haha) I'm just picky w table linens! They have white ones which well be using as well, but I'm getting some special ones too haha. I just want things to look a very specific way What card did u do for the maracas? I'm thinking of doing something along those lines too - like "shake for a kiss" or I might just leave it. I like the idea of personalizing them! I might do that on the handles but I'm so unartisic I'm afraid i might ruin them haha. One of the ladies here (sandy) posted the ones she personalized and they look awesome
  4. Yup! I ship everything to Niagara Falls, which is only 1.5 hours away. I'm planning on a big order soon with all of the maracas, maybe some meds, and our table linens and then going to drive down to pick it all up at once. I refuse to pay obscene Canadian shipping prices + all of the duties and brokerage and taxes! I shop a lot haha - I've done this for a ton of things Ah - that makes sense about the maracas! They look good and they're a lot of fun - I think they'll be a hit
  5. Haha my FI was like "why is everything pink??" and I told him that's what he gets when he takes no part in the planning Yes, I think I might do that, and then put the deck of cards in the boy bag I ordered some sample maracas from amol's and they look great. There is some size discrepency though. I ordered the hot pink/magenta ones and the mint ones, and they're completely different sizes despite being listed as the same It might have been me or it might have been another one of the ladies also using her! It's very frustrating. I'm not even sure who to contact because her manager was her first replacement, who's also on vacation now :s. We are dealing with it and I'm having everyone who wants to book contact me as I get better responses from them, but it's definitely frustrating. Our package is with AC I'm able to get sunglasses and pashminas cheaply because my mom can order them at wholesale prices! Her business deals with this, so we can get them at cost prices! That's the only reason I'm including them ahha
  6. No, my TA still sucks. Some of the other ladies on this forum have her too and it's the same situation. She starts off great - fantastic even - which hooks you in. But once you book, her response time completely changes. On top of that, she's been on vacation for almost 2 months now and was initially replying, but right now I haven't heard from her personally in over 2 weeks (despite many emails on my end). I have guests trying to book, and we've had to go to our TA's replacement, and then HER replacement b/c she's also on vacation. So we're on our 3rd transfer now, and I don't blame the guy for being slower because it's not his direct clients. I've sent her an unhappy email already, and I might have to do it again. She got us a good rate, so I am happy about that, but it's frustrating when we have people that WANT to book and give cc info, and have to jump through all of these obstacles just to get contact.
  7. @@calgarybride2015 - I'm doing a premailer too! Working on it now. Going to do passport info books, luggage tags and maybe a "get pumped" CD. Re: the OP, we are doing OOT bags and favours and I'm slowly gathering everything I'm still trying to figure out what to put in each. I was going to do one OOT bag per couple, but now am giving 1 per person because of the way the bags worked out. I bought 40 because price wise, I could have gotten 40 or like 26 for the same price, so it was a no brainer. I got 20 with pink writing and 20 with mint green writing Now I'm trying to figure out how to break up things because i still just want to do 1 hangover kit, etc. per couple. For the ladies I have: - bag - tumbler - bath pouf - tissue packet - pashmina For the men I have: - bag - tumbler - fun sunglasses - tissue packet - water gun? Then things I want to put in jointly are the oh shit kit (advil, vitamin c, hangover pills, aloe, band aids, bobby pins, hair elastics, safety pins), door hanger and maybe a deck of cards but I'm not sure how to distribute yet and who's bag to put them in. I'm also going to put condoms in the Singles bags, and they'll get the joint things too. I think the total cost of the bags will be about $15. For favours, I'm still thinking about this. We were originally going to do the maracas from Amols, and I still like this because I think it'd look nice in pics. Trying to figure out colours though, because pink would prob look best on our tables, but I'm not sure if all the guys will want pink maracas. So I might do mint green or orange for everyone instead and have them on all of the chargers as decor too We're also thinking Mexican hot sauce. We found these bottles at the mall nearby when we did our site visit for $3/each, and I think those will go over well. We had them for our Mexican themed engagement party, and everyone liked trying them. We're just going to tie a tag around them, and have them on our welcome/seating table. And we're going to get some sand toys and bubbles and stuff for the kids
  8. @@calgarybride2015 - I definitely get the surprise! That's awesome and nice of your TA to do that. There are so many awful stories of TAs here (including mine - ugh) that I think a lot of us are surprised when we get good gestures from them
  9. @@calgarybride2015 - Please share the site, esp if it's a Canadian one! I've found so many great American prices for the meds, but everything seems to be double the price on Canadian ones
  10. @@kcole123 - Ooh those look fantastic!! I will prob order the 48 stickers, then ship them to the States and pick up everything at once. Haha I'm willing to spend money on a lot of things, but I hate expensive shipping costs. Did you get the 2.5" or 3" diameter stickers?
  11. I keep meaning to order these, but the shipping to Canada is soo high . Almost $20 for stickers?
  12. Changing resorts would be great! I think if you can have some nice quality time together and have enough vacation days, go for it Haha @@kmk2016 our FIs are similar. Mine is pretty anti AI and this will be our first minus our site visit. He's super active and gets bored lying on the beach. All of our trips so far have been super active ones. The wedding week will be fine because we'll be surrounded by friends and family to keep him occupied, but if it were just him and me, he'd be so antsy after a few days. We thought about flying elsewhere after but it's close to Christmas so quite pricey. We've decided to do our honeymoon 4 or 5 months after our wedding, and a Disney World week before
  13. We just found out there's no availability the week we want and unfortunately we can only go that week bc of my work, so we're now looking at on resort options. Thanks for the offer though - really appreciate it
  14. Hi I'm interested in the multi colour coil rings but I would only need 3 or 4 dozen. Will you split these up and how much? Please PM me the info thanks
  15. I love love love All of Me by John Legend and that's what I"m thinking right now, we'll see if I'm sick of it by December. Also thinking of having it transition to the Tiesto version and have the BP run out and dance to get the party started, but have to figure out the reception timeline first. Also love Better Together by Jack Johnson, but it might be a bit quick. I've also always loved Elvis' Can't Help Falling in Love With You, but that's not my FI's style at all
  16. Haha that's pretty funny! My FI and I first went 2 years ago which was our first time as adults, and we fell hard. We've already been 3x in the last 2 years and a lot of our friends think we're nuts but it's our happy place. We've decided we're good to go once per year from now on . We would LOVE to do a cruise and keep wanting to get out to California, but haven't gotten enough of our DW fix yet haha We're trying to figure out accommodation now and I think my FI is more excited for DW than Mexico haha. We usually stay on resort, but we're looking into DVC rental this time but not sure if that'll work out And yes, we think the extra vacation is definitely worth not having the AHR! I'm going to start using that line too - Mexico or nothing!
  17. Our wedding is in December as well. I think 4pm would be lovely, but I'd also make sure to do first look and bridal pics before that. I think 5pm is doable only if you make sure to do all of your pics before - and also if you don't mind it getting dark quickly before. The hour before sunset is often called the golden hour for photographers - so you want to make sure you get nice pics of you and your groom then Are you talking about the real in the sky fireworks, the ground fireworks that go off around your feet? If it's the latter, I don't see it being an issue to still have them go off after the ceremony. If it's the in the sky ones, maybe you can get them to do them later after your entrance or first dance?
  18. The bride and groom often exchange gifts to be opened while getting ready. It's nice for the photographer/videographer to capture that moment. Often, the groom gets the bride jewelry of some sort, and the bride gets the groom a watch or boudoir shots or something along those lines. And usually, there's a card where the bride and groom will write a nice letter for the other to read before the ceremony while opening the gifts
  19. Choosing a resort was awful haha. I was SO stressed and I literally lost sleep about it. I felt like I had to weigh in other people's wants and price points, and my family was driving me crazy about it. If we went with what they wanted, it would have sacrificed what we wanted. We were also limited because we wanted to do the wedding within 8-9 months of being engaged. I finally decided to just ignore what people were saying, and focus on what WE wanted in a resort and wedding instead. We chose something a bit more expensive (but not crazily so), but we think the quality of the resort and the amenities made it worth it. Try to focus on what you and your FI want, and what your priorities are. It honestly does get a lot less stressful after choosing the resort, and you get to start planning the fun stuff
  20. We were thinking to do an AHR for a while because we wanted to celebrate with everyone at home as well, but we recently decided to scrap it and go to Disney World before our wedding instead ha! We had a big engagement party earlier this month for about 50 of our friends. We had it Mexican themed with Mexican food and lots of tequila and margaritas. It was a blast, and we feel like we got to celebrate w/ our friends. We're also doing another engagement party next month but for family, and it'll have a lot of the cultural stuff like a tea ceremony. I'm also having a bridal shower thrown by my bridal party, and we're both having Bach parties. We've decided that that's definitely enough celebrations for us, and we'd rather spend the money on a week in Disney World before our wedding instead! We are huge Disney dorks, so we're pretty excited now at the prospect of a Disney trip and our wedding in the next 5 months .
  21. We're just before high holiday season - December 14-21, 2014 at Beach Palace in Cancun Our double occupancy rate is $1770 all in before any discounts applied from Toronto direct to Cancun through Air Canada for one week. We get every 11th adult free, and I think we will have 3 that we're going to apply back to make everyone's rate lower. Should be around 1650-1700ish after. We have some people staying just 5 nights and it's about 100 less Our rate is a bit higher than we wanted guests to pay, but we think it's worth it because it's a beautiful hotel right on the main strip with a fantastic beach. Also, our guests will get $1500 credit per room to use on golf, tours, spa, upgrades, etc. That was a big selling point for us
  22. We hae about the same number as you, so I don't think we're going to upgrade the cake either. Thank you for posting the pics! It really helps to see how people lay things out. Did you use the moon shaped sweetheart table, or a rectangular one? Kind of looks like the latter, so just curious Do you rmbr what colour of linens they had? Your site visit seemed a lot more helpful than mine was!
  23. @@kcole123 - I need to download one haha. What's it called? We're just under 5 months!!
  24. I'm going to try to get the pants now, because in the winter they might have a lot more wool/heavy weight fabrics. And I know there are a lot of summer sales going on now
