  1. Definitely just get involved in the conversations, and you'll get there in no time. PLEASE do not just bump up really old pointless posts... it makes the site really frustrating to read. Esp for those of us that rely on the "new content" button Enjoy the site . There's definitely a lot more here than just templates
  2. This is a good idea. I love paperless post - have used it in the past for a couple of parties. I like how it seems less direct than an email haha. I'm going to look at it now What type of card did you choose?
  3. @@shan0487 - I've heard the Tres leches at Palace is very good! Abril didn't offer it to me though so I'm going to ask her about it. @@NJBride2014 - I somehow missed this reply. Thank you for the cake reviews and posting pics! My FI's favourite cake is strawberry shortcake so I think he'd love the vanilla/strawberry combo. My fave is red velvet though but I"m not sure how they execute it there! I'm not upgrading the cake size. We're not big sweets eaters so I didn't think it was necessary. I am upgrading the "decor" of the cake though haha to get the ombre look I want
  4. How did you like the Red Velvet? We unfortunately didn't get to do a taste test during our site visit at Beach Palace, so I'm trying to decide what cake flavour to get! Thanks
  5. @@marinah84 - A 1.5" hole puncher! I swear the craft world has everything. I picked up one in NYC but they have them at Michaels too. It made punching them really easy. Going to use the punch for a couple of different things @@acw271011 - Thank you for the advice! I think I'm going to go no sash... I think it looks okay sashless too. It just makes things a bit easier for me, and I don't have to go around looking for one.
  6. @@calgarybride2015 - Not offended at all! This is exactly what I want/need to hear which is why I asked You're completely right though. And it's not worth almost $200 to get lost in the dress. I don't really care about bling that much to be honest... but a friend put it in my head! I asked her to change the saying and she was pretty easy going! I actually changed my fonts a few times too and she was very quick to do it
  7. Small update. Nothing on the DIY front, but a bit on the shopping front I was in NYC last weekend, so of course I got my shopping on! I don't know how you NYC ladies refrain from shopping all the time - my gosh I'd be so broke if I lived there . I went to BHLDN at Anthropologie which I've been dying to go to for ages, I got this cute card for my FI to open before our ceremony, some pink mercury votives for our head table, and my wedding earrings! I'd been eyeing these earrings for a while so I was happy to get to BHLDN to see them in person! They are gorgeous and super lightweight which I love. That store had so many pretty dresses! If any of you ladies are looking for something non-poufy and very romantic/vintagey, I'd definitely take a look at their dresses. Also got my welcome dinner dress and a super flatting black dress from Century 21 (amazing store!!) and some random stationary things. All in all, a good trip! I've also received my getting ready robe from Etsy (uBride) and my tumbler stickers from Davet Designs. No real pics but they look just like these website pics and I'm happy with the quality of both! The robe in particular was a great bargain if anyone is looking for floral robes. Decided to go with mint green for the cup labels so they don't look too girly for the men (though my FI has told me that mint green is not a masculine colour ) Also starting to pull the trigger on things I've been eyeballing for a while! I ordered my cake topper from Etsy (Betteroffwed) and my 2nd attempt at Wedding Shoes (Kate Spade). Can't wait for these both to arrive! Oh and I punched the holes on my door hangers, and they look great! Last thing that I'd appreciate any advice from you ladies. Do you think my dress needs a sash? My first instict is no because I think I like it simple and I'd rather not spend the money. But my dress is super simple so I'm wondering if it needs something blingy? I saw this super pretty really thin sash (like 0.5 inch) at BHLDN that I'm debating. I plan on wearing the earrings posted above, the shoes above if they work, a blingy bracelet, ivory orchids in my hair and a pretty simple veil Thanks ladies!
  8. Our final payment is coming up end of October. I think I'm going to send just a couple of emails to people that were on the fence to let them know. Everyone else I'm taking as a no. It's definitely a bit frustrating though because we invited about 100-120 people and we've had a total of about 20 RSVPs at all - yes or no! (About 40 booked though haha). I like that postcard idea, Kim! I kind of wish I had done that about a month ago, but right now I don't want to spend money for people to say no :s
  9. @@acw271011 - I adored Scotland! Such a beautiful place. I went to Glasgow, Edinburgh, the Highlands (Inverness and wherever lake loch is haha), and my fave - the isle of Skye! The last was so amazing - felt like I was in a different world. We visited this place called the fairy glen which was so so enchanting. I liked the cities but the highlands and isle of skye were just so special. I'm an English/history major too so loved seeing all of the historical sites. Told my fiancé he needs to go and see it all That's great about the series! A lot to look forward to! I'm going to reread the first outlander book soon. I'm a bit torn because I while I do remember some parts of what happen, I also don't want to refresh myself too quickly and "spoil" the show haha
  10. @@acw271011 - I'm behind but read up to book 6 or 7 I think haha. It takes her years to finish a book so I slowed down heavily after devouring them all at once when I first started. My problem is remembering what happened in the older ones! I actually borrowed the Outlander Companion from the library once and it totally helped haha. I've been wanting to reread them though since I started watching the show He's kind of a dark auburn . I don't usually find red hair attractive on a man, so I personally like that colour on Jamie a lot! I'm finding it really close to the book so far too. I know that's why some only tv watching ppl complain because they find it too slow, but I think Diana Gabaldon has a huge say on the tv show which might explain why it's staying so true @@calgarybride2015 - I do any form of Bachelor haha - it's my definite guilty pleasure. Outlander is soo good! It's about a time travelling woman from the 1940s and 1700s Scotland... she finds love in both places. It sounds totally cheesy but it's soo good. I actually visited Scotland because of the books (and Braveheart haha)
  11. I've been a big fan of the books for years, and I am loving watching the story unfold on tv. Totally helps that Jamie is HOT
  12. Sandy, can't wait to hear more details and read your review! The pics you've posted so far are stunning!
  13. Have any of you ladies tried the cake flavours and have any recommendations? My wedding planner is saying they have to get the menu in 1 month before to order ingredients, etc. so we missed our chance to try everything. I got sent this for cake flavours: Flavor: **vanilla (vainilla filling) **Chocolate (chocolate filling) **Strawberry (natural strawberries filling) **Lemon (lemon cream) **Red Velvet (cream cheese) **Cheesecake
  14. Woo - you need to get a trumpet/mermaid!! So flattering on your body. Some of the others were pretty but they overwhelm your petite frame a bit. Definitely keep looking if you haven't found "the one" yet. I love shopping and esp dress shopping too and I think I went to 7 or 8 stores before I found mine hah. I loved wedding dress shopping. It got to the point where it was very quick and easy to go no no no after trying them on. Mine was the only one where we didn't have anything to say and it just made us all smile! Good luck!
  15. @@calgarybride2015 - I got my stickers in the mail, so my goal this weekend is to get the labels off the cups! Thanks for the tip @@acw271011 - You are so so kind! I'm pretty bad at the DIY but I think I'm decent at copying ideas from others haha... Thank goodness for this forum, Pinterest and Etsy . I hope it does turn out!
  16. @@calgarybride2015 - I think for brides that read old threads, it's great. But there's probably always a bunch of brides planning weddings at the same time, and in that case, it's fun to read as they go along! I know I was reading NJBride's thread eagerly everytime she updated
  17. @@calgarybride2015 - They printed great and I totally just copied and pasted a graphic I googled! The cards are quite small. I thought about waiting too, but I actually like posting the process . I get excited when I finish something and can post about it haha. Also, some of the other more recent planning threads all seem to be following this route
  18. @marinah84- Vistaprint is SO fast. I think they arrived within 2 days. The estimation is always something long, but I always choose standard shipping and it comes within 1-2 days. Yes I wasn't sure about sizing either! The medium or oversized postcards are both nice sizes. The rack card is a bit smaller for a door hanger, but I'll make it work @@calgarybride2015 - Yes, start your planning thread! You're less than 4 months out now . This thread also keeps me accountable and I get excited to update it because it means I've finished something! I have actually ordered business cards from Vistaprint before. I got the basic personal ones. The card stock is really similar to what I got for my itinerary and thank you letter. It's glossy on one side and matte on the other. I thought about doing business cards for the luggage tag or room tag inserts, but I'm just printing them myself because I don't need all that many and I can fit like 10-12 on a page so it's quite cheap to make!
  19. Thanks girls! We've been getting a GREAT response about the little packages. People really liked the CD and a whole bunch of people told me they've been listening to it all week ! I'm pretty bad at the DIY stuff but here's another attempt I made all my printables for our wedding- I made a door hanger, thank you note with menu card on the back to put on plates during the reception, and a welcome letter with itinerary on the back. Kind of bad to admit but I basically copied designs I liked from etsy . Also used a free printable from Weddingchicks for the last pic. I was going to originally buy them but I decided to save some money this way. It was actually pretty easy, and fun to play around with fonts. I need to get a hole puncher to punch the door hangers, but everything else is good to go! i got that $27 for $70 worth of printing from Vistaprint. Just a note to the Canadian girls that the code wouldn't work for me on the Canadian site so I ordered through the American site. My subtotal was $72. After shipping and taxes, I paid $17.69 + the original $27 - not bad! I'm actually quite pleased with the quality. My FI actually admired them without prompting too and said they looked really good! I went with the standard glossy card stock for the thank you and welcome letters, then upgraded the card stock on the door hangers to make it thicker. My door hanger is a rack card (a lot smaller than I expected FYI - I should have read closer as I'd have liked these a bit bigger), the welcome letter/itinerary is an oversized postcard and the thank you letter/menu is a medium postcard. The printing actually looks GREAT - not blurry at all. I was a bit worried because I got that message about low resolution, but I don't really have any images, just text, and it all printed great. Overall pretty pleased!
  20. @@Naturalbeauti30 or any other recent brides. Can you tell me what type of door knob the guest doors are? Kind of a silly question I know but i"m making door hangers and I'm wondering how wide the hole has to be to hang on it. Thanks!
  21. @@calgarybride2015 - Our timelines are very similar - and short ! 9 months of being engaged total - We got engaged in March and wedding in December
  22. @@TinkerSofi - I have a small chest too and it holds up fine. There's actually boning in the bodice so I didn't even need a bra! Not the most comfortable thing but it definitely held up
  23. @@TinkerSofi - I bought this dress for my Bachelorette! I have pics of me in it in my planning thread if you want to see how it looks in real life
