I ran into this problem. I was originally going with the adults only resort because my fiancé and I don't have kids and didn't want to be a resort filled with kids. People did take offence to this once they found out so then I ended up changing my plans. Now I am booking a resort at Melia Tropical which has an adults only section so we are going to be staying there. So it works out for everyone that one. You could consider that.

so much to consider that I have never realized once I started looking into the destination wedding. All worth it in the end though.

That sounds good. I have difficulty finding the write words and not say "we don't want your money or gifts." Your's is simple but worded perfectly.

I was wondering if anyone can help me out to word an invitation to tell my guests we don't want money or gifts. We are having a destination wedding in April of 2014 and because the guests are spending money to travel all that way to be a part of our day, we don't want any money or gifts from them. We feel like they would be spending enough anyway. HELP

Hi there Meandhim, I revieved a quote today from Air Transat and leaving from St. John's in come in at $1690 for the Melia. Toronto rates were lower, as usual, and they were $1450. I am waiting on WestJet prices which I was told by my TA that they should be there by the end of the week. I am going to compare the two and if WestJet happens to be higher I am going with Air Transat. Air Canada is saying they aren't quoting for another couple of months. But I want my pricing before that.

Yeah I wish I was able to do it. I don't have the patience to mess with that sort of thing either...hahaha and it can get costly too I guess buying the stuff to make them. I was on the Etsy site earlier and they looked quite expensive. I don't even know how much they are normally. Maybe that's the going price. But whoa.

I have contacted Vanessa Martinez from the comments and suggestions from this site. I have to say she is the best travel agent I came across and am so happy with her. Other travel agents I didn't trust or didn't give me all the information I needed. But with Vanessa I trust to leave this group booking in her hands.

HI, I have actually been told to wait as well but all my guests are anxious on knowing when and how much. I am still working on finding the best price. I just found a travel agent that works best with me and is very insightful. I actually got a recommendation from here. She is checking out prices for me now and hopefully she said she will have them by weeks end. I will let you know as well. I am looking at the Melia Caribe or the Majestic Colonial in Punta Cana. Do you have a resort narrowed down?

Hi, Thanks for the response. Our wedding is Mid-Late April of 2015. We are flexible on the dates during that time because I have been told that from one day to the next could be a difference in price. So I am leaving it open for that time. I have tried a couple of different travel agents (10 to be exact) just so I could get some different numbers. But to my surprise everything is coming back over $2000 out of St. John's which is way too high for what I would want my guests to pay. Hopefully I will get something narrowed down soon. This is harder than I thought.

HI, Wondering if there are any wedding groups leaving Newfoundland. I am getting quoting for that departure and it's outrageously high. Anybody have this issue. How long did you wait before getting quotes? when is the best time to quote?

Well I am glad I am not along on this. I am from Canada and have contacted quite a few TA's and they said they could not get me a firm number as of yet because the pricing isn't out yet. I am trying to book for Mid - Late April of 2015. I am getting a lot of pressure from guests asking when and how much? so frustrating when I can't get this information from any TA. I thought I would be able to get something now but I guess I have to wait it out. My only concern is by the time I book out time to travel, that the actually wedding date wouldn't be available at the resort? I am glad this thread started because I am having trouble and stressing out just a little..lol

Yeah the La Barcaza I actually seen reviews about it on this site. This site is awesome for suggestions because I probably wouldn't have found out about it otherwise. I think I will just use the salon at the resort. With regard to bringing stuff I have no idea about anything like that yet. I just only started to narrow down the resort and trying to pick a travel agent that works best for me (which has been hard to find). I would like to do some sort of small welcome bags for the guests too but nothing too over the top and expensive. Just something small to show appreciation that they went all that way to attend. You should have a look at the La Barcaza too for your reception. It's a good option to check out and their prices are really good in my opinion. I have been in contact with them just to get some quotes and they are really quick to respond and very reasonable with their prices.

I also love this resort for the same reasons. I really want this resort and right now the travel agent got back to me and the price is around $1700 depending on the departure city. I have guests leaving form three different departures. Right now I can get pricing and dates but no flight times. I really want to have this straightened away soon so my guests can have some notice to be able to plan and save for the trip. I was reading some topics on this site and I am going to have my ceremony in the garden gazebo and really want to have my reception on the La Barcaza (wedding boat). It looks like a lot of fun and looks like something my guests would enjoy also. I think it's a little different than having a reception at one of the hotel restaurants. I have seen pictures of a reception on the La Barcaza and it looks amazing. I can't wait for the dates and everything to be booked because I am a little bit excited and anxious. What's your plans on photography? are you having the photography at the resort or an outside photographer? I haven't decided this yet.
