  1. Where are you all getting your linen stuff for the guys? And are you contributing at all to the groomsmen's attire? I feel like all the places I have looked have seemed very expensive and I hate to ask them all to pay that when they are already paying for the trip, etc. Any suggestions are welcome!
  2. I'm glad I read through this post! I was planning on the barefoot sandals but didn't even think about hot sand!
  3. @vanessav53 Thanks so much for attaching your song list. I'm sure its awesome but I still have some posts to go before I can see it lol! I will make sure to check back!!
  4. So I want to make mixed CD's for all the guests coming to our wedding and will hand them out with pre travel brochures a month or so before we leave. I need some good ideas on songs to include to get everyone in the mood and pumped up for the trip! Obviously Bob Marley, but does anyone have other suggestions? I really want a mix and not all Marley but not sure where to start. Thanks!
  5. I love that dress! Very similar to what I have been looking at too. And no, its not out of line at all. My guy will just be wearing probably linen pants and a white shirt. He even wants to wear shorts, but I'm not sure I'm ready to give in to that just yet!
  6. I am going to get the picture frame kind. I found this one its called the Forever Frame and supposedly the sand locks in so it doesn't move or get mixed up while you bring it home and it has lots of good reviews. You can also change the picture without messing up the sand. Its a little pricey but I figure if it works then it will be worth it. www.foreverframe.com Also I think we are going to have the guests each put in a bit of sand from the beach (we will pre fill little cups for them) to form the foundation, then we will put our sand on top.
  7. I like everyone's idea! We weren't sure what to do either but ultimately we decided to just have a big, regular reception about a month after we get back. We have a lot of people who can't come and want to celebrate with us. We also are not doing a real reception in Jamaica, like I don't think we are going to do dances or anything there so we will do that all here when we get back. I am going to wear my dress and wedding party will wear their stuff too. I like the idea of playing pictures on a slideshow. I think it will turn out really nice! I'm excited!
  8. Yes I wondered this too but from what I have researched, Jamaica is one of the easiest places to get married and it all transfers legally to the US. Guess we made a good choice!
  9. Hi and congratulations! I am also doing a May 2015 wedding. I knew right away that I wanted to go to Jamaica though, so didn't have that problem! We decided on the Riu Tropical Palace in Negril. It will be right around $1600 per person for a 7 night all inclusive stay. Some people are going for less days and so they will only be around $1200 pp. They do allow kids there, but it is not necessarily "family" centered. The sister resort right down the beach is Riu Club Negril and they have free kids under 5. However, if you stay at the Tropical Palace like we are, we also have access to the other resort for all its restaurants and amenities.
  10. Congratulations! We are doing a Jamaica wedding and there is no blood test. Just send birth certificates and be in the country a few days prior to the wedding and that's about it for requirements! I also will be having a bridal shower and such, but we are going to be having a reception at home when we return so there are a lot of people who want to celebrate but aren't coming to Jamaica. We are not paying for our bridal party's attire or tickets however I am keeping it as inexpensive as possible. Bridesmaid dresses are around $100 each and the guys are just going to wear khaki's and a white shirt, so both things they will be able to wear again. Shoes are optional and so will be hair/makeup for my girls! I think you can do it however you want although we did make sure to give each member of our bridal party a price up front and made sure they did not feel obligated in any way if they couldn't make it work. So far everyone we really really wanted there is able to come!
  11. @tygrrlily Just a tip, but a lot of times even if you can find cheaper room and flight rates online at Expedia or similar sites, these often do not include everything the group rate includes when booking w/ a TA or the resort directly. For example shuttle to and from airport, additional taxes, etc. My mom is a travel agent and has planned many weddings and she just wants to pull her hair out at all the times that people think they have found a cheaper rate online but end up with more costs because of paying all the incidentals individually instead of having them built in. I'm sure this is not always the case, but something to think about!
  12. @@kmk2016 Yes, I did put the initial deposit and final deposit deadlines on the site and just said to contact TA for detailed info on pricing, but I think I will update it and put some general pricing on there as everyone suggested! thanks!
  13. Ok thanks ladies! It sounds like everyone is putting prices. Our air is separate too so it will just be prices for the resort. I have some for 7 nights and 5 nights, I guess I could put those up for a starting point and then guests can discuss other options and individual details with the travel agent.
  14. I am not sure what is the norm. We did not put prices on the website, just contact info for the travel agent since people will be coming and going different dates and from different locations. However we have lots of people asking us price info and were expecting to find it online. Should we just put general prices online to give people an idea? What did you do?
  15. Well I went with my bridesmaids today and we looked at lots of options. Ultimately we stuck with the yellow and blue. We decided on blue dresses, its called "pool" with yellow "canary" accents. They look really good together and I think the blue dresses will look better than yellow to go with the khaki pants. I am very glad I let my girls help decide as they will be the ones wearing them!
  16. @Cheyennenewman LOL! this is exactly what I'm talking about! We are also doing a beach wedding in Jamaica I want it to be fun and not too formal but at the same time more than just sundresses. Decisions, decisions!!
  17. @@NixSpade I haven't fully decided yet. In fact I was just thinking that green would be a nice color too! We are going to do some dress "shopping" this weekend just to get some ideas on color and style so hopefully I can narrow it down!
  18. @@loquaciouspunky I haven't really looked into it yet. I figured I will ask the resort for ideas on that before we go so we can have something in the books. I know there are a few companies that do them, but I think we can get a better rate for a group than just the individual rate per person. I may have to bargain a bit before I decide!
  19. @@csho yes I have looked into it a bit and I think it will be very cost effective! Also we debated a lot about whether to do an AHR, and ultimately decided why not? We have many friends/family that arent' able to attend the ceremony and basically told us we had to have a reception when we come home! So I am all for it. We are doing very simple and small in Jamaica, not paying for a reception there so we will not be doing any dances, etc. until we come home. I'm excited! @@crspoon10 I don't think I am going to bring it back from Jamaica as I am not sure how that would go over w/ customs and also the cost to bring pounds of it back home! But I did google and found some authentic Jamaican jerk in bulk that was only like $35 for 9lbs of it! That will definitely be enough. I can't remember the site off hand, I will have to get back to you on that. I also found some cheap seasoning jars online that are only about 20 cents each!
  20. Are you doing favors at your AHR? I was thinking of keeping ours Jamaica themed and making little jars of jerk seasoning, maybe also a Jamaican bottle opener or something. Does that sound like a good idea for favors?
  21. Congrats everyone! We are getting married in May 2015 in Negril Jamaica! So excited. We have our resort booked, but my understanding is that flight info won't be available until June or July. Aaahhh I hate waiting as its harder for people to plan when we don't have all the prices!
  22. We are expecting probably between 30-40 to be able to make it. All of the wedding packages include the semi private dinner at the resteraunt. That's what we will be doing. But you can pay extra to have the reception on the beach they will bring food and drinks and music out to you. I just could not justify paying the extra price at an all inclusive. My plan is to do the dinner, then just have our own party on the beach, we can get our own drinks! We are also going to be having an AHR when we get back though so I am not really worried about doing all the dances, etc. We wil have a more formal reception here with all that stuff. How many are you expecting? Do you know what time your ceremony will be?
  23. I did mine at the knot. I just add to it and change it as I go. Right now only a few people have the link www.theknot.com/wedding/Martin-Lentz
  24. I am getting married here! What is your date? Mine is May 4, 2015. I have been trying to plan and its hard to find others who have been here or have a lot of info! Have you talked w/ Sophie the wedding coordinator yet? I have gotten some info together and have been working on a lot of things. If you have any questions please let me know! I'm sure we can really help each other out! Congrats!!
