  1. http://imgur.com/DpxJ8J4 I picked it up today! It's super easy to use and the fabric is kind of stretchy, so it's quite comfortable. Ignore the bra straps, I don't own a strapless bra. It's a little longer than I was expecting, I might try to find out if they can make it like three inches shorter if I order them for my bridesmaids. I'll see what they think when I bring it down in 6 weeks when I visit my hometown.
  2. The post office is closed today, but I'm thinking that I might go on lunch to pick up my packages! I'm sooo excited!!!
  3. The Akumal Hammocks site is on the beach, but it's not with a gazebo or anything, just a wooden arch draped in fabric. That's where I'm planning, although I'm not booked yet because we're still 14 months away and I want to get package rates before I book a date.
  4. @@calgarybride2015 it was showing in richmond BC on Friday, scheduled for delivery Tuesday, and I'm on vacation in Italy for the next two weeks, so I won't have an answer until the end of the month!
  5. @@beckys98 It felt like that for me too, but if your resort has a thread it starts to add up when people start asking about things you hadn't thought of yet!
  6. The last few posts are the hardest...
  7. What exactly is the etiquette rule on gifts and favours when you're doing a destination wedding? I don't really want to travel with a suitcase full of some sort of tiny personalized trinket wedding favour. Can you get away with not doing favours? And gifts - who are we expected to give gifts to? Can we buy our bridal party's attire instead of a gift, or do we have to give a gift on top of that? Could we pay for an excursion for the bridal party?
  8. For those using theknot, do you have to have all the categories on the left, or can you hide some of them?
  9. I've been wondering about this myself. I have a male MOH and a best woman, so I'm not entirely sure how that will work. And my parents are divorced and my mother is remarried, so I imagine she'd get escorted down the aisle by her husband and my dad would just... sit? And where does the groom's mother fit in? She's big on tradition and a very emotional person, so I'm sure she'd like to be involved, even if we just send his parents down the aisle before the bridal party... so many decisions!
  10. My FH and I don't want to do speeches. We're not the "big party, center of attention" kind of people, so we're trying to keep everything pretty low key. No speeches, no DJ (just an ipod I think), not bringing any extra decor, just trusting the resort with the details. Probably the only modification we're making to the standard package is that I'll probably ask for a single long stemmed flower for each of my bridesmaids so they have something to do with their hands. I guess if people want to do toasts, I'm ok with that, but we won't be doing organized speeches.
  11. Was it the Wedding Planning Subreddit on Reddit? They are very anti-destination wedding over there and like to accuse those of us who choose destination weddings to be rude and inconsiderate for "expecting" our families to spend so much money to come to the wedding yadda yadda yadda... My FI and I come from different places and met on the other side of the planet. No matter what, our families will have to travel. You can fly to Mexico for the same price as flying within Canada, so why not?
  12. gerentefotomex@@Tropiconestudio.com, photomexico@@Tropiconestudio.com and they also have a facebook page under Tropic One Studio Mexico
  13. Any chance it was one of those things where they posted the announcement at the church and left it open for the congregation rather than sending individual invites?
  14. I'm planning to have both my bridesmaids and myself walk down the aisle to Israel K's over the rainbow/what a wonderful world mix, and for the signing I'm thinking an instrumental version of Jason Mraz- I'm yours, but I can't think of anything else with a similar feel for the recessional.
  15. We only have I think 5 single people coming, so plus ones aren't a big deal. I have three single siblings and he has one, plus my parents are divorced and my father hasn't remarried. Now we just have to hope that his brother doesn't end up getting back together with his high maintenance killjoy ex and my sister doesn't end up hooking up with some sleazebag by then!
  16. @@kellymiller and then our guests would know whether they can expect a plus one based on who the std is addressed to, was my thinking.
  17. I'm tentatively planning on khaki coloured pants (might try to find linen ones) and a long sleeve button up collared shirt, with the sleeves rolled up. Tucked or untucked is a fight for another day.
  18. Hello and welcome! You might want to look at the Mayan Riviera part of Mexico. Most places have cheap flights to Cancun and it's just south of there. It's gorgeous and has resorts with all price points. That's where we decided to go. You will want to look into when the hurricane season starts and keep in mind that during the summer it will be SUPER hot and parts of the resorts might be closed because it's the low season for tourism. You can get tons of information about resorts and locations from this forum, so do some browsing! Happy hunting!
  19. This question is rather Canadian-specific because of the way our packages are structured. We're planning a wedding for Nov 2015, but we haven't set a date yet because the airlines haven't released their schedules that far out and I can't get rates yet. I don't want to pick a date and then find out that we could have saved a couple hundred bucks a person by going a week earlier. My question is this: When do you send STD and Invitations? From what I've been gathering, once your travel agent blocks off the rooms, you usually have a month to put down a deposit, then three months or so to pay the balance? If we're booking a year out, do I send the STD cards with rough dates, then send the actual invitations a year out once we get the rates in place so that people can start putting their deposits down?
  20. I ordered a convertible dress from Etsy, It is supposed to be here next week, but now I'm worrying that it won't arrive before I go on vacation next sat, and I won't get to see it til the end of Sept! My plan is to try it on myself and see what I think, and if I like it I'll ship it to my bridesmaids to try (one size fits all) and if they don't like it, they are responsible for finding their own dresses in the same colour.
  21. @@BTOPPINGS As I understand it, the white fabric comes with the site, but if you want coloured fabric you bring your own.
