  1. Can anyone give me their opinion on my food choices? I narrowed it down to 4 menus and asked our families to rank them. This eliminated two of them (damn, I had high hopes for the pork medallions with carmelized apple and goat cheese!) and left us with the top two choices to choose between. Menu 1 - Portofino Starter - Appetizer buffet Main Course - Florentina Pork Fillet (Pork chop filled with sautéed spinach and bell peppers, with mashed potatoes and capers) Dessert - Dessert Buffet and Seasonal Fruit The upside of this menu is that the buffet lets people choose their own apps and desserts, so I don't have to worry about finding something with mass appeal. Also, Portofino is near the Jacuzzi pool, where we want to have our reception. It was the second choice of most of our family members, and the one who rated it last said it was because they would be eating buffet all week and wanted a plated meal. Menu 2 - Le Gourmet Starter - Gourmet Salad (tender lettuce, palm hearts, artichokes, asparagus, sweet tomato, sprouts, flowers and red fruit vinaigrette) Main - Filet Mignon with Roquefort cheese, mushrooms and chardonnay sauce Dessert - Passionfruit parfait with mango sauce This menu was the top choice for most of the family, but one person doesn't eat red meat and one other one is allergic to Mangoes (They also had a meringue with strawberry ice cream flambe option for dessert, I just thought the fruit parfait would be a lighter choice after a heavy main course). Also, I have no idea where Le Gourmet is located, so I don't know how far it is from the Jacuzzi pool. Thanks in advance for any opinions you care to share.
  2. Nope, that's for the dancing part. The dinner is like $1500 to privatize the restaurant, that fee is to privatize the reception.
  3. @@nicolesal My travel agent finally got them to email me today, they said they had received my "wedding wishes" and sent me a bunch of links to google drive documents, including a new "Wedding wishes" form that now has that fee on it to privatize the reception. Hopefully I won't have to pay it.
  4. I still haven't had confirmation from the resort that they received my "Wedding Wishes" document, so my travel agent is going to try to light a fire under them to get them to acknowledge it. I don't care about any of the minor details, but I would like to know where my dinner and reception will be held!
  5. @@kunrau Head on over to http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/topic/63282-official-gran-bahia-principe-riviera-maya-thread/ it is more active and has pictures and explanations and video tours and all sorts of fun stuff. Depending on the package you choose, you will probably just have the flowers on the table for the signing included. Once you book your date with the resort they will send you the flower catalog and price list for the optional services. The included setup for the poolside reception as far as I know is just the white tall tables and white chairs. There are pictures in the other thread as well.
  6. The "wedding wishes" document says that single flowers are $5, bridesmaid bouquets are $36, I believe. We're requesting a single gerbera daisy for each, but I haven't heard back about that yet. I know there's a minimum, but there must be a maximum size just due to size constraints of the dinner location. I don't know what it would be though, I don't remember seeing that either.
  7. @@nicolesal I haven't heard from anyone at the resort. I sent in my wedding wishes on June 15, they never acknowledged receiving it. I sent it again two weeks ago and asked them to acknowledge receipt, still nothing. My last communication was from Linda saying that Paulina would be my coordinator, but it sounds like Paulina replaced Linda, so I'm assuming I'll get a new one?
  8. @@nicolesal Have you heard from your coordinator yet? Who were you assigned? I haven't heard from Paulina yet.
  9. @@Scarlett123 I'm three months out and my dinner and poolside reception are not yet confirmed. It's frustrating, but that's Mexico. I'm assuming it will work out in the end.
  10. There is a minimum of 20 people and the drinks per person price covers a few high tables and chairs, service, and special lighting.
  11. @@Monikab Check out the links in the first post, there are pictures of the semi-private dinner, I think it's under "wedding locations", and there are links to reviews of the salon/spa.
  12. Hello! I got the 2nd package and added on the poolside reception (charged per person depending on bar choice, I believe it was $5 for margaritas/Pina coladas only, $12 first hour and $8/hr after for domestic liquor, and $18 for the first hour and $14/hr after for international bar. The DJ costs $210/hr with the lights and sound equipment, or you can rent the sound equipment for an Ipod for $70/hr. Canapes are $8/person.
  13. @@nicolesal Crap. Linda is the one who promised me we could use the Akumal site. I haven't heard from Paulina yet and my wedding is 5 days before yours. Should I send another email?
  14. @ Portofino isn't mentioned on the link to the menus in the first post. Is it still there? Is it a different name now?
  15. @@deecol Your wedding package covers the cost of the ceremony setup and wedding coordinator, I think at the very least you need the smallest package. You can choose a package and then add things on a la carte, but I don't think you can go without a package at all.
  16. Our Tip Top had exactly one pair of linen pants, and that was it. Not one style, literally one pair of pants, 42 waist.
  17. Welcome, and congrats! If you send an email to the resort, they will send you the application. You should have your dates in mind when you get the application. If you go to the weddings section of the website (under "for Everyone") and click the "I want more information" link, it will give you an email address to send a message to.
  18. @@KatieMcBride We looked into that, but the prices were pretty high with shipping. Let me know how that turns out!
  19. Where is everyone having their reception dinner? I wanted Portofino because so many Coba brides commented on how good it was, but that menu wasn't included in the menus I was sent and the resort won't tell me why. We received El Pescator, Le Gourmet, and Mediterraneo.
  20. Thanks, @! I think I remember someone here saying that they elected to have the wedding cake served poolside after the dinner, has anyone seen that? I really don't know what to do about the cake vs. dessert and small cake vs upgrade to dessert and big cake issue. And I have no idea why the Portofino menu wasn't included in the menus I received, and they won't tell me, I've asked three times!
  21. I'm getting married at Coba. My package includes one set of live music. Since I don't want it during the ceremony, and we can't have it during dinner, could I use them in the Lobby bar before dinner, or do they already have music playing?
  22. @@Mrswaltontobe I gave the travel agent a rough idea of the dates we wanted at the resort, then once we chose dates and got quotes, the travel agent made initial contact with the resort to book the wedding date, and they dealt with me directly after that, although my travel agent did step in again when they tried to change my ceremony location.
