@@LisaAnthonyPoppy Thanks. I'd like a family member to conduct it, so an outside vendor fee shouldn't apply. I just need to find out if the resort would still supply the mock wedding certificate.

I'm planning to walk down the aisle to over the rainbow/what a wonderful world by Israel K, and I'm trying to find other songs with a similar feel to them. I like I'm Yours by the Vitamin String Quartet for the signing of the papers, maybe? or "You're so cool" from True Romance? I really like "wonderful tonight" by Vitamin String Quartet as well, but I don't know if it's too drastic a change from the other songs. -
Can anyone officiate a symbolic ceremony in Mexico? I ask because I've read complaints about my resort that people have asked for a non-religious ceremony and the officiant has decided to read from the bible anyways.

I'm thinking Bahia Principe Coba/akumal, I just love the way the hammock wedding site looks, on the beach but not where people swim so there won't be people in your photos, but I can still go barefoot.

Are you doing a resort wedding, or an off-site wedding? I'm planning a resort wedding in Maya Riviera for Nov 2015 and planning to just use the resort planner on that end and a travel agent on this end, but I'm pretty easygoing and not going to worry about a lot of things like choosing a specific colour scheme or choosing specific flower arrangements or anything, so I may not be the person to ask!

Aw man, I'm so anxious to start planning, but we're hoping for Nov 2015 and that's still so far out!

Hi all. I'm just beginning to plan and I'm doing things kinda haphazardly until it's close enough to start talking to travel agents. (I'm hoping for Nov 2015). I've got a few random questions for anyone who might know the answer. I want to bring my own officiant for a symbolic ceremony. We'd do the legal stuff in Canada on the down low and get my aunt's lawyer husband to officiate the ceremony. I'm worried about other brides who claimed that they requested a non-religious symbolic ceremony and the resort officiant talked about God anyways. My question is does anyone know whether the resort will still supply us with a mock wedding certificate to sign during the ceremony? And will they give me a hard time about using my own officiant? Secondly, I want to walk down the aisle to the Over the Rainbow/What a wonderful world medley because I have good memories of dancing with my father when I was a child to What a wonderful world while standing on his shoes. I'm having trouble finding other songs with a similar feel for the rest of the ceremony. Any ideas? We're open to some pretty kooky ideas (copacabana on the steel drum, anyone?). Thirdly, I've read a ton of posts about the photographer and included photos, but it's not entirely clear to me how this works. Is photography during the ceremony plus the 10-20 photos included in the package covered, but if you want posed photos after the ceremony, you pay the hourly rate? And lastly, the poolside reception - I've seen posts on here saying $1100-1400 for three hours with beer, sparkling wine and special cocktails. Is that for the option with the DJ, or is that for the speakers but you use your own iPod? Thanks, everyone!

Thanks, Everyone. I'm thinking Bahia Principe Akumal or Coba for Nov 2015, but I'm still thinking about a plan B in case we decide to just run off and elope with our two best friends instead.

Are all of you ladies using a local travel agent? I'm in Saskatoon, but my guests would be coming from Regina, Windsor/Toronto/Detroit and New York.

Anyone have any recommendations? I've been told to check out Jubilee Travel and a friend has a relative that works for Expedia, but I'm hoping to talk to someone who has actually used someone for a destination wedding specifically.

Thanks, Everyone. My FH and I are from Canada and our guests will be coming from SK, ON and New York. I'm not sure how that complicates things for the travel agent, I guess the first step would be to find one. Would it be difficult for my guests from ON to deal with a travel agent based in SK?

I'm planning on Bahia Principe Akumal (or Coba?) for Nov 2015 and I haven't really done anything yet. The first step seems to be a travel agent, but my FH and I live in a different city from our families, so is that the best way to go, or would it make more sense to just make arrangements for ourselves and block off rooms with the hotel, then have the guests arrange for themselves? It's for immediate family only, but our family is spread out in three cities across two countries. Not sure where to start!

So, my fiance and I are starting to plan our Nov 2015 wedding in Mexico. What's the first step? Do you contact the resort for a date first, or talk to a travel agent first? Thanks!

Hi there! I'm newly engaged and in the very beginning stages of planning, we haven't even decided what year we are going to get married. I met my fiance while we were living abroad, so since we're not from the same place and flying within Canada is so expensive anyways, we were planning on having a destination wedding. I'm trying to come up with a plan A, which would be a resort wedding somewhere in the Caribbean with our immediate family (25-30 ppl including 2 kids and 2 toddlers) for which I was thinking maybe the Bahia Principe Akumal, and a plan B, which would be eloping somewhere exotic with only our two best friends as witnesses. Something awesome like in a rainforest in Central America or a bamboo hut in Thailand. We both don't want to have anything big or complicated, so simple package deals are perfect for us. I'm open to advice for either Plan A or Plan B. Thanks! Maggie
