  1. I'm very sorry to hear that! You're right, it creates a very awkward situation going forward. If they had concerns, they should have voiced it early on. Even if they did voice their concerns, at the end of the day, it's your wedding. If a wedding in Mexico is what makes sense for you guys, they should be happy for you. It isn't as if you aren't giving them time to get the money together or asking them to pay a ridiculous amount of money. Have they been to Mexico before? Do you think maybe they're afraid to go and using this as a cover to not go and maybe put pressure on you guys to change it? I found when I initially had issues with my family, it was because they were afraid of Mexico and what thy hear about the drug war but after visiting this winter, they can't wait to go back and understand the resort areas are safe. I really hope they come around because that will make family occasions uncomfortable and especially when kids come in the mix or other special occasions they expect you to travel for.
  2. @@rachelia160 Wow, you got a good deal!
  3. @@chelseapaige37 I have a preference for Air Canada but unfortunately their flights out of Saskatoon to Puerto Vallarta aren't the greatest. If it was just me I wouldn't mind the overnight layovers but I couldn't do that to guests. WestJet isn't my favourite, but they were the best for flights. Their flight times allow for everyone to fly to Calgary from all over the the country so we can leave on the same flight out of Calgary with a 2-3 hour layover. Could be fun to get the party started in Calgary airport was my thinking I am concerned about the contract with WestJet though, I hope no changes have to be made once we have our confirmed numbers. Kind of hard getting them to quote when they want exact numbers but people won't go for sure until they know the price! I've never been to Puerto Vallarta so a part of me is panicking! We were originally thinking of the Mayan so we went in January to check out resorts. Once we started getting pricing, they were all coming in around that $2000 mark. Originally PV was supposed to be cheaper but it's still coming pretty close. We fell in love with the idea of Las Caletas for our wedding so we've decided to stick with it regardless of the price for Now Amber/Secrets Vallarta. I've heard PV is great though for a group because you can do nothing but lay by the pool or you can get active and do so much more there. I will definitely let you know if I have anymore questions Can't wait to read your review!
  4. @@chelseapaige37 That's a great tip! I like that idea of e-mailing the airline for a quote! Definitely make sense that the travel agent has to math that. I just hope they don't let the travel agent know what we're doing! lol. We're going with WestJet so just waiting on pricing to come out. I would love it if we could keep it at that $1700 mark and under. We keep getting quotes of $1850-$2000 which seems crazy to me for PV. Good to know about the beach. I'm more of a pool person but know some people like to swim in the ocean and go snorkelling. Can't please everyone though!
  5. @@chelseapaige37 What airline did you use? Is that price with taxes included? That sounds like a good price! I'm in the process of getting Now Amber/Secrets Vallarta quoted for the week. What did you think of the beach area at Now Amber by the way? Thanks!
  6. So exciting to see other November 2015 brides getting ready for the big day! I found it was good to have so much time to plan but now that's we're a year away it's definitely go time. So far we've decided on Las Caletas, Puerto Vallarta and put down a deposit. I tried on dresses and think I found the one but will give myself until January in case a happen to change my mind which I doubt will happen. Just working on the wedding passport invitations then we'll get those out early January.
  7. I had been hearing some weird things about WestJet that they average out the most expensive and cheapest seats so sometimes the price might end up being a little higher but at least everyone pays the same which sounds crazy because then what is the point of a group rate. Glad that isn't the case and good to know WestJet is giving out rates before they're published!
  8. @@Maggietron I think that's probably the biggest stress about destination weddings! I hope it all works out! Was the group rate that much different from what was posted online?
  9. This was one of my biggest concerns too and I'm still working out how we'll do it in the end. As of right now, we're planning on using WestJet but they only give guests 30 days to get their deposits in from when we decide to go with their quote. So I set up our website with all the details minus pricing, we'll get invitations done up in December and hopefully receive them by early January then get pricing mid January and update the website. Since most people live in our city, we might just hand deliver them so they get them within a day of us getting the pricing and have a full 30 days. For those that lives across Canada, we would either send out the invitations a few days before we know we'll get pricing so by the time they receive the invitations, we can update the website with the pricing OR just tell them we have pricing and visit the website, invitations are on the way. Most people know a deposit will be due in January/February and will have roughly 3-4weeks to get the money in, so we're hoping that'll be ok. As for the actual RSVP date, we're going to make it for 6-8 months before the wedding date because we're giving people the option of using our travel agent and getting the group rate, or booking on their own. I think 6-8 months should be enough time for the actual wedding day planning. @@calgarybride2015 So true about there always being some kind of excuse. It isn't as if you got engaged one day and starting asking for deposits the next day. People have time to decide if it's something they want to set money aside for so when the time comes they'll be ready.
  10. @@Maggietron Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the dainty yard dresses. I've been looking into them but it was hard to tell what the quality would be like. Is there any support with these dresses? I've heard that they may be a hard fit for girls with bigger chests?
  11. I stayed at Dreams Riviera Cancun in January and loved it!! Food is amazing, relatively newer resort and a lot of activities for everyone.
  12. @@Alanna Did you have any issues getting that date for your wedding? We're planning on getting married there too but haven't booked anything. I hope dates aren't running out already!
  13. @@laquanharris Since it's an AM Resort, I wouldn't worry about it. At least the ones I've been to are always good - never been disappointed! They just need to work the kinks out. By the time of your wedding I'm sure they'll be good.
  14. I've noticed that when it comes to bachelor parties, guys go to the extreme but usually the bride gets more a tame night. One of my friends had a night here in the city while her fiance's friends took him on a surprise trip to Cancun for a week. Not sure if it's because girls are more conscious of the cost to go all out? It definitely seems to be a theme of the bachelor parties my fiancé has been going to.
  15. We aren't doing a registry but we did mention if people still wanted to bring cards to the wedding, there will be a spot for them at the reception. I know some guests would think it's asking too much to give a gift while others would feel weird about not giving something. So the cards allow people to either put money in or give a card with well wishes and nobody has to know what everyone else did and doesn't matter to me. We won't be expecting anything but if it happens, great. We live in a condo so any gifts would just make us feel even more claustrophobic.
  16. I thought I would need to wear something "beach appropriate" too, but as I started dressing shopping nothing seemed to work.Turns out more of a ball gown style works better with my body type so that's what I think I'll be getting. I thought that might be too hot but it all depends on the fabric you're getting. Apparently organza fabric is good because it's light and breathes better. I'm thinking about getting the dress in the link below. I tried it on and felt good in it. I also read from someone else on this site (can't remember who), but you're going to be hot regardless of what you wear so you might as well get something you love. http://www.allurebridals.com/products/c269
  17. I got quotes earlier this year for Nov 2015 but was finding them a lot higher than I would have liked so I decided to wait until 10-11 months out!
  18. Hello, Did you ask your bridesmaids before or after they had RSVP'd? I feel like if you ask before, there is that pressure for them to go but if you do it after then you know if they were planning on coming anyways and it makes it easier to pick from your friends already coming. I have had a couple of people tell me it would be better to ask before because friends who assumed they would be bridesmaids might get offended when invitations go out and they haven't been asked yet.
  19. @@LissaSou Did both you and your guests just have 30 days to put down deposits? Or did you have 30 days then your guests had a bit more time to put down deposits? I'm worried 30 days might be a bit of a rush to get invitations done once we know the resort, hand them out and have people put their deposits down. How did you approach the situation? Thanks!
