  1. Can anyone say if there is a good place to have a "cocktail time" between the 4pm wedding and the 6:30 dinner? I saw someone commented that they gave guests the optino of meeting or going back to their room etc, but I was wondering if anyone coud advise me on what might be a good lounge/bar/area for my guests to go after the wedding (I refuse to buy a cocktail hour at an all includsive). I am trying to make a "wedding day itinerary" for my guests and want to put the location we'd meet after the wedding before dinner. Also, I know someone (maybe the same post), mentioned heading to the beach after dinner. I absolutely want to do this, but have also seen some posts about avoiding the beach at night... any comments? Is night swimming frowned upon by the Riu, because Im totally looking forward to that. We are doing a bonfire in lieu of a rehersal dinner to kick off the wedding the night before our wedding day, but 2 beach nights in a row are okay by me!! Thanks!!
  2. This is awesome, thank you for puttting together the threads. My wedding is in April 2015 and I am putting together to do lists and welcome things for my guests, so this helps a ton! as welll as setting my nerves at ease.
  3. This is such a cute idea, but I feel like my old timer guests would be so confused!!!!
  4. I am finding too much stuff! sunscreen, aloe vera, mini gum packs, mints, granola bars, tissues, tylenol, emergen-c tabs, shout wipes, pepto tabs, hand sanitizer, crossword puzzle/sudoku book, lip gloss, bug repel wipes... and were giving mason jars on the bonfire/rehersal dinner.
  5. I am still curious is the Riu helped at all. Our wedding is at thr Riu Palace Tropical By in Negril Jamaica, and the wedding coordinator said that usually bride/groom will greet the guest when they arrive and give them the bag then... but I would much rather have it waiting in their room for them (aside from the fact that we have poeple arriving on 4 different days, thats a lot of time waiting around). She said the bell hop may be able to help us with this, so I am hoping I can wing it when I get there. I have a feeling I may be disappointed... any past Riu brides know??
  6. I did one bag per couple, but I bought so many bags that I put a folded bag in the original bag (they're reusable fold up bags). But most of the items I did per couple, some I did per person and on the couples I just put extras in the bag (tylenol, bug repel wipes, things that are truly a per person item). I have a few people splitting rooms that are not couples (my aunt and a friend for example) to save money, so they need their own bag.
  7. Just in case anyone is still following this, I got mine from Ikea and they were super cheap. They were actually "reusable bags", but, they are the super light material that will dry really fast, they had an inside pocket, and they fold up, but theyll be perfect for beach towel and gear to bring and lay in the sand! also, being a member is free, and I got them for even cheaper in the store (like .40c). http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40210063/
  8. I am doing a beach bag from Ikea that is super light and wil dry fast, Ocean scent hand sanitizer from BBW, travel sunscreen (i know people will bring it, but c'mon its the beach), bug wipes (just in case!!), the small pack of Five gum, mints, granola bars (especially because the airport is 45 minutes from the resort, just in case theyre hungry when they first get to their room), tissues (I got monogram ones from Christmas Tree Shop), lipgloss with our own label, sudoku/crossword puzzle, travel aloe/after sun, tylenol travel shout wipes Pepto Bandaids A welcome letter A map of the resort A Do Not Disturb Sign i made
  9. I had the hardest time. I wish I had talked to a travel agent before I made my pick. I would've gone with another resort that was priced about the same but on another area of Jamaica (we went with Negril). I am excited for Riu PTB, but they also had some hiccups like not accepting credit cards if doing group booking through them (theyre foreign why wouldnt you allow this?!?!) and only being able to email. Also, email the wedding coordinators, make sure they email you back fast and are helpful, theyre your connection until you get there. I am beyond excited Sophia gets back withint 24 hours max, and it makes me happy with our choice. Good Luck!
  10. I am also putting tissues (I got the monogram ones from Christmas Tree shops), a mini pack of gum and mints, I bought Ocean scent hand sanitizer from BBW, emergen-c (in case someone is sick from the airplane air), and I got our bags from Ikea for like .40c/bag, and theyre the super light ones that are perfect for the beach if they get wet and sandy they dry extra fast! I am glad to read the bug wipes didnt cmoe in handy, but I already bought them, and in jamaica who knows if someone will do a trek excursion. I know sunscreen will probably be packed, I just feel like thats such a stample!
  11. These turned out awesome!! My luggage tags are done for mailers, but I am working on a note card to mail out. I may do 2 note cards though, and make one a packing list, that's an awesome idea!
  12. I did because I really wanted to make message in a bottle invites. We only had 60 people (most were couples) invited though, so I only made 40 bottles.
  13. I have been heavily contemplating this, its nice to see what others have done! I think I am going to wear it for the "daylight" time of our AHR and then change later.
  14. Were doing a reception at a local place you can rent that has an inside for dancing and a bar, kitchen, and a lot outside, like horseshoes, volleyball, playground and a huge grill area. I am super excited, although I was nervous that the inside, being all white was awful. We live in the wine region of upstate NY and I was set on doing it at a local winer/brewery, but for 1500, and having to provide all our own stuff, I'd rather have it for free and have no time restraint. Also, they chage per hour per person for open bar, and I can spend less than half that to buy all my own booze, have an "old, new borrowed and blue" drink, and a couple kegs and cases of wine! My new last name will be Moore, so I am doing a "S'Moore's" bar and putting out those green berry holders to carry them outside to the fire. Best of luck! I am sure it'll be amazing.
  15. wow that is awful service!! I am so sorry. I am looking everywhere for linen pants and a light button up (he doesnt care if its linen). I did find adorable linen ring bearer pants that roll into shorts at H&M of all places. They had super nice linen pants too but my Fiance thought they were too "skinny-jean" shaped. geesh. Hopefully linen is coming back!
  16. This seems like it is going to take until my wedding day to get there!!!
  17. Love your colors! I was thinking about making my brochure/note card and having it printed locally, wonder if it'll save money.
  18. Cant wait to see these. Getting mine out of the way ASAP for an April 2015 wedding!
