we're just having a picnic and having a caterer friend do our catering, but our parents are insistant they pay for this isnce we wont let them help with the wedding.

I agree! I do not want a shower, and told my family I was firm on it. They were really taken back by it, but we've lived together for 5 years, and I think everyone is doing enough. I did decide I love getting our families together, so we're doing a fingerlakes winery tour around the lake (we live in the fingerlakes of NY, luckily!), and its going to be jack and jill, we are doing your presence is present enough, but if they feel like they want to, in lieu of gifts please donate to your local animal shelter. We are going to do a small gift at eah location to whoever can answer some question about us right first (who intorduced us, first date location, etc).

I dont think it's rude. And if they feel it is they do not have to participate I suppose. We are doing a jack and jill "shower" but its more a get together and have fun, nothing with gifts, prizes, games or anything. Were doing a winery tour around the lake and having fun.

How are you wording invites for the jack&jill "shower"?

my mother and FMIL were pretty surprised I didnt want one... we've lived together for 5 years, i dont even want gifts for the wedding... but I decided if I have to have a jack and jill "shower" that were renting a bus for a wine tour for and doing "in leiu of gifts donate to the animal shelter".

I havent had anyone complain (YET!), but when they do Ill tell them they will or have had their day to do what they wish.

I got the girls necklaces and the boys harmonicas. They were all personalized, the necklaces with their birthstone gem and initial, and the boys harmonicas were engraved.

I got my shot glasses off of etsy for super cheap, but still have to get sunscreen.

I just bought my FH a tag, but I got it new, but it had been in the jeweler case, so it was "handled", I got it for half off simply for that reason, but he wouldve KILLED me If i spent the couple grand of the original one.
