  1. Those are all fantastic suggestions. Make a list of all the really important things you want, and then a travel agent will likely be able to help you find a resort that fits all your criteria. Happy planning!
  2. You have definitely come to the right place if you are looking for information. Everyone here is so helpful and friendly ????
  3. I have the most amazing travel agent!! PM me if you want her info. Her office is near Mount Royal. She has done so much research for us it's crazy and has been a total sweetie through a of it.
  4. Hope everyone had a great day! ????
  5. You ladies are awesome. I can afford the dress, I'm just having a hard time justifying spending the money. I had contemplated selling it later, so that could help offset some of the cost for sure. Is there an incentive for the dress shops to sell their samples? It did fit pretty good, but I was leaning towards ordering one size bigger just in case. I had tried on many others that looked similar, but there was something about this one that was just perfect. I wish I could post pics, but they got this specific dress from a shop in China and the sales lady said there isn't a pic of it online. I'm going back on Thursday to try the cheaper dress I kinda liked from David's Bridal and to try my favourite on again just to be sure.
  6. @@DarellJ Congrats on your wedding! You will find so much helpful information on these boards it's crazy! I'm in Calgary as well, and have a fantastic travel agent. If you guys are looking for someone to help you out with travel arrangements, help selecting a resort, etc PM me and I'll send you the contact info for the girl I'm using. She's amazing!
  7. I didn't mean to do it! I only went dress shopping with my mom so that when I was looking at second-hand dresses on the internet I would know what style suited me best. I knew I was not wanting to spend more than $800 total on my dress (including alterations) but I figured since I wasn't out to buy anything it wouldn't hurt to just try on whatever. But I totally fell in love with a dress that will likely cost me $700 more than my max. And when I say fell in love - I mean I burst into tears when I saw myself in the mirror. It's so beautiful. So what do I do? Any brides out there that spent the extra money and thought it was worth it in the end? Or should I just forget about it and move on? Thanks ladies ????
  8. Hi @BDABeachBum! From the research I did, some resorts will provide a judge that speaks English for a legal ceremony, and some do not. There didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. When I was looking at various resorts wedding websites, they usually stated whether or not the judge would speak English or if the wedding co-ordinator would be translating for the ceremony. Hope that helps!
  9. I'm in Calgary, but getting married in 2015 ????
  10. White for sure! Red gives me crazy headaches. City living or country living?
  11. I'm Lola Glitter-Cheeks lol
  12. What an awesome thread! We met on a dating website four and a half years ago. Our first date was a disaster! My first impression was really good and the conversation was great, but he kept commenting on how the people at the table next to us were having more fun than we were. And when we went to leave he shook my hand! Awkward! I really liked him, but didn't expect to ever hear from him again. Much to my surprise, he asked me out again a week later and the rest is history!
  13. Yes! Lol. Fingers crossed! I've never burnt down there before, so I didn't even consider that. My fiancée on the other hand.....
  14. Yeah, when you break it down like that three hours doesn't really sound like a lot of time - even with us not doing speeches or dances.
  15. I tried searching to see if someone had asked this before, so I'm sorry if it's a repeat. We are currently trying to nail down a photographer for our wedding, but I'm unsure how much time I should book them for. Three hours doesn't sound like a long time (even with a short ceremony) but I'm wondering if most brides thought it was enough?
  16. @@mark82 - from what I've read on other posts, personal vows are an option. My fiancée and I would be way too shy to have to come up with something ourselves, and that's why I'm glad there is still a traditional exchange of vows and rings. I was so worried it would only be a two minute ceremony since we wouldn't be doing that! Just a thought for those of you that have already had your legal wedding in the Mayan Riviera - did you have to leave the resort to do any paperwork or were you able to do it all through your wedding co-ordinator at the hotel?
  17. Beautiful! I easily forget how easy it would be to do a lot of this wedding stuff myself - and I bet most of my guests would never know it wasn't store-bought
  18. @@jd0922 thanks! We arrive on a Sunday and the wedding will be Friday so no worries there ????
  19. I am laughing so hard right now
  20. Wow! Great find! I hadn't even considered those for my OOT bags because I though it would be too expensive.
  21. I just downloaded the Wedpics app - what a great idea!
  22. We have already booked most of our group and our wedding is 11 months away. Because it's such a busy time of year, and with some airlines the price of the flight goes up the fuller the plane gets, we wanted to lock in a price asap. My travel agent requested quotes from different travel companies for the resort we wanted, and once we got the pricing and picked the date, we checked availability with the resort. So for us, everything happened around the same time.
