  1. Thanks ladies! I do love it and can't wait to wear it! I get married in two weeks today! calgarybride 2015 I actually had the dress you wore picked out at David's Bridal but then I found mine!
  2. My dress is a bridesmaid dress!! It wasn't something I was planning on doing but the consultant at one store new I was looking for something simple and elegant and suggested that dress. It's ivory and I added a sash and floral piece to it so it looks more bridal. It was about $250 so I couldn't argue with that price! I say get whatever makes you happy! I actually saw the "bridal" version of my dress on say yes to the dress Canada the other night...it just has less lace on the back but was $700! I think any bridal store you go into should be able to help you. Just let them know your budget and what you are looking for!
  3. I got mine from Lily of Angeles on etsy. I received them last week and they look great! I haven't used them yet, but I'm sure they will look great in our photos
  4. I agree with everyone else on this one! I would make it clear that they are welcome to come on the vacation, but they will not be attending any wedding festivities. I would doubt that the guys would care , they could probably have more fun on their on anyways!
  5. Hi Ladies, We are less than a month out for our wedding! We are still working on some last minute details and I just had a thought that I would like some input on. We are getting married at 4 and then our cocktail hour starts at 6:30. Unfortunately because of where we chose to have our cocktail hour and reception it can't start until 6:30 but we didn't realize that when we chose our ceremony time. It too late now to change any of the times or location, so we have to deal with the larger time gap for the guests. We figure they will just hang out in the lobby bar at our resort or hang out in their rooms in the AC! So, to help kill time I was thinking of providing some trivia type games about the bride and groom to give the guests something else to do during the time gap. I was thinking of doing something similar to bridal shower games, as I didn't have a shower, just to give them something to do. I could get someone in the bridal party to give them out after their pictures are done. What do you ladies think? It that idea lame or fun? Thanks for the input!
  6. It's totally up to you! We are getting legally married back home after our symbolic ceremony in Punta Cana. We will celebrate our destination wedding date as our anniversary because to us that is the date we will be getting married. The legal ceremony back home is just paperwork to us!
  7. Our wedding is on Friday and we arrive Sunday pm. The resort has a three day prior to wedding rule, so we apparently had to be there by Monday. The previous times I have flown my ears take a while to pop so we decided to arrive late Sunday night so we can just go to bed and not worry about my ears. The later time flight was also cheaper
  8. Yes it will depend on the store and/or designer. I got my BM dresses from David's Bridal and it was about 3-4 weeks for them to come in.
  9. I would get them for your parents, that is pretty standard wedding tradition. As for your siblings, that is up to you!
  10. At least you have gotten some RSVP's back! We invited 80 people and have 23 booked. We only received 5 No RSVP's, so at least you know that they won't be attending. I know it sucks that not everyone can make it for some reason or another, but I doubt you will even notice they aren't there on your big day!
  11. We will have about 23 guests (we have some who might book last minute due to work issues). We picked the Garden gazebo for the ceremony and the pool island for the reception. I wouldn't worry about the packages yet, we didn't decide on a package until we knew our guest count. That way we could figure out what worked best with the number of people we had attending. It really depends on what you want. We went with the Ultimate package (the biggest one) because it included so much of the stuff that we wanted (video of ceremony, hair and makeup for the bride, best menu option etc), so you just need to figure out what you want included for your wedding then pick the package that best suits that.
  12. Hi! We are getting married there on March 6th! So far, everything has been great. My advice would be to stay in contact with your wedding coordinator if you have any questions or concerns! Let me know if you have any questions!
  13. I agree with everything everyone has said on here! We also had an RSVP nightmare, mainly with NO one RSVP'ing by the date. We invited around 80 people, with a deadline of December 19th. In early November no one had booked (but we had people contacting our TA), so we sent out an email reminding people of the deadline and telling them to email us with a "yes or no" to attending the wedding. We had about 4 people actually email us back with a No response. We decided not to hound people after we sent the initial email, because we figured if people wanted to be there they would! We have also had people try to book after the RSVP, so we had to say no. It is also astounding how everyone thinks the wedding will be free. They just assume that the meal, décor etc is just included in the stay at the resort. We have also stopped discussing it with people who clearly don't care to understand how it works. At this point we are just looking forward to a great vacation and the wedding of our dreams!
  14. I'm going to do my toe nails blue or get blue stitching on the bottom of my dress with our wedding date (3-6-15). If all else fails I have blue flowers
  15. @@acw271011 We realize that we shouldn't have invited them in the first place, and it is our fault that we did. If they would have booked ahead of time, we probably would have made a great effort to keep in touch with them after I was laid off from my job. We knew we were running the risk of them coming, but they apparently told one of my other former coworkers that they weren't going to go months ago, so we aren't sure why they had the change of heart so late. @@jeffandrobyn Yes we are going to say that the deadline has passed and we can't add any more guests as we have submitted our numbers to the resort already.
  16. Thanks for the input calgarybride2015. As of right now the guests in question just asked about pricing but haven't book yet. I informed my TA to hold off on booking them yet (if they even reply to her) until we figure out what to say to them. We realize that we shouldn't have invited them, but it would have made for an awkward workplace if we hadn't. We know it was totally our fault and have to deal with the consequences Good luck with your upcoming wedding! I can't wait to hear all about it!
  17. HI All, So here is my current dilemma. Our booking deadline was December 19th, so almost three weeks ago. We decided not to chase people for RSVPs because we figure if they wanted to come they book, or at least let us know they would be coming and book later. So today, January 7th, we had two people (a couple) email our travel agent looking to book for the wedding. The real kicker is that we don't like these two people and only invited them because they were former coworkers of mine. We invited everyone else I worked closely with, and felt we had to invite these two people because we invited everyone else. Not once during the 10 months that our save the dates or invites were out did the mention to us, or anyone else, that they planned on coming to the wedding. I was laid off from my job in mid November, and have only talked to them twice since then, and only because I went out with the other people I use to work with. So, my question to you all is, how do we politely tell them they can't come to the wedding?!? There is no way I'm having them at our wedding, as we really don't care to ever see these people again. We had a rocky relationship at work, so I'm really not even sure why they would want to come in the first place. I was thinking of saying something like this: "Thanks for your interest in attending our wedding, unfortunately the booking deadline was December 19th, and since you expressed no interest to us in attending our wedding, we had to assume that you would not be attending. We have submitted our guest list to the resort and are unable to add more people at this point..." That last part is a lie, as we could add people if we wanted, but we really don't want these two people attending our wedding. HELP!!!!
  18. Hi All, We booked our flights with Air Transat and now I have some questions about carry on luggage. We are planning on bringing some decorations and silk flowers with us, so ideally I would like a hard top suitcase as my carry on. I was just wondering what other people's experiences were with their carry ons with Air Transat and how strict they are? I know they allow wedding dresses as a free carry on, but what about suits? How did everyone pack their decorations? I would hate to get everything to the airport only to hear that we can't bring it on, or that it will get damaged! Thanks!
  19. Hi Ladies, With the Canadian dollar being so low right now, does anyone know of a credit card with a good foreign exchange rate (particularly American)? I'm hoping to find a good one so we can save a bit of money. I current have a Visa with CIBC but have seen bad reviews about its exchange rates. Thanks!
  20. Congrats and welcome to the board! Don't worry, you will reach 150 posts very soon! I'm impressed by the number of people you have booked so far, our deadline is December 19th and only 6 rooms have been booked so far! :S
  21. I prefer the second one, with the one strand. It looks easier to open for guests. I wouldn't wrap your extra papers in the raffia and just leave them loose.
  22. oh wow! On my contract it says 3 days to get the photos! Maybe that is a Dominican thing?
  23. Hi All, Does anyone know of decoration rentals in Punta Cana? I would love to know if I can rent my decorations rather than pay the overpriced resort decoration or haul them down myself. Thanks!
