Fabric For Bridesmaids Dresses?
kmk2016 replied to kellymiller's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
We will be going the chiffon route... Unless my BMs suddenly demand to be in short dresses, and then we will move to something more structured. They originally wanted short flowy chiffon dresses but my ceremony location is windy and the last thing I need to worry about is a bunch of girls trying to hide their panties from the congregation! So either long chiffon (preferred) or short and more tailored/heavy weight dresses. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

How much is your trip costing your guests???
kmk2016 replied to Corvette79's topic in Honeymoon Forum
Our wedding is in the height of high season (feb 29) so 7 nights flight, accommodation and transfers is costing our guests $1785 plus tax ($150 because of a sale we locked with sunwing)... So basically $2000 for the basic luxury jacuzzi suite at Azul Sensatori. Family Suites are a bit more. Only $200 surcharge for single supplements and kids were about 55% of adult rate. We really didn't want to go over $2000pp... But with high season and a five star resort we are happy. It was about $300 cheaper out of YYZ but this rate was for direct from YYC and YVR. Now it's just my job to plan a fantastic week where they feel as spoiled and loved as we do with them using their holidays with us. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Definitely- if you don't do research and choose a vendor that has done a ton of brides and who are happy- it could be a nightmare. Allowing time for alterations and going with a respected company (even if it's a bit more expensive) is soooo worth it! I'm thrilled with Jasmines and can't wait to order and receive my dresses! Not married yet! Just did the BDR in June but we settled on sensatori. I loved the attention to detail on food/drinks that Karisma offers so knew I wanted to stay in their family of resorts. Sensatori had a very welcoming feel and although the beach was not great, everything else was amazing. I didn't want my gueat paying $2500-$2800/pp for Generations, so Sensatori it was! I'm happy with my decision and my guests have looked at the resort online and are thrilled with our choice and booking quickly. It's not very spread out like some AIs I've been too- but still gives our guests enough space to breathe away from a fellow wedding guest if they choose. It's not as "boutique" as AB and the beach isn't as nice... But for a larger AI that could accommodate my size of group it's perfect. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I was told 30% is average but there are so many variables! How much time you are giving your guests to save... Are your guests typically travellers or will this wedding be a first trip of the type for many? What time of year is it? Are their kids invited or will they be required to get child care? How far do they have to travel? And most of all... Price! Is the price for your resort/flight something that most of your guests can afford without too much financial strain? Some couples want an intimate small group and thus their choice for a DW, so inviting 10-12 people who they know will be there- and that's it- would mean they likely will get 100% responses (but even these scenarios often lose 1 or 2). Others want to celebrate with friends and family and make it a week long celebration and invite 100+ knowing realistically half or less may actually come. Biggest advise is don't take the "nos" personally (or the ones who just avoid you and don't say anything!!) ... They WILL happen and you WILL be hurt- but focus more on the people who decide to share in your special day. Whether that's 4 people or 100... The ones who want to be there for you will- and you just can't focus on the ones that don't. Also- just because someone says "oh we will be there!"... Or even RSVPs yes- don't assume anything. Until they actually put down deposits and pay for their trip- sadly it may only be talk. Have fun planning! It's worth all the stress (that's what I'm telling myself!) At the start of my planning I wanted AB. I was told if I had a group of 80 it was not possible. Further to that (when I tried to push) I was told that if my rooming list hit 80 people, they would simply move my group (subject to availability) to another resort and my planning would need to restart. I did not want that stress. I agree it's beautiful- but after a lot of thought- I agreed that it's a bit too small for our large group and I didn't want people tripping over one another on the resort and a bit larger location would allow people to have some personal time when wedding events weren't happening. You don't "get" anything.... But this a community forum of brides who are participating in sharing ideas, and planning process (as well as reviews) with one another leading up or following their weddings. Many of us have DIY projects along the way... Or have photos or inspiration that others may find helpful. Once you hit 150 posts, attachments are visible to you- and you can access the hundreds of DIY templates and ideas that other brides have shared. The reason for the 150 is- this is a community- and if you aren't participating and sharing, there would be no templates to "want".... So it encourages being a real contributor here and not just coming to take a few ideas and leaving. Good luck! It really doesn't take long. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Awe that's sooo sad to hear! Our BDR was a lot better and allowed a 2 hour tour (as scheduled on our itinerary) of the entire property including all the restaurants and sky deck... This made us fall in love with the resort because I agree the beach and ocean are not the best... But I knew that going in and knew that the sky deck was gorgeous and that the quality of the beach didn't matter. Like you, we didn't have our pager buzz when our room was ready either and I finally went up and asked hahaa- and like you we were upgraded to the honeymoon suite, but our room was perfect and the service was equally as amazing- so the only negative we found was the beach- which as mentioned I was prepared for and it didn't bother me. The food/drink and service was more important. Although the Lomas site has increased pricing for the private menus posted/ I have yet to hear of a bride that didn't get the old pricing put on their detail sheet- so I'm still thinking the prices on lomas site is wrong. The food at the resort was spectacular all weekend we were there and at the dress rehearsal it was quite good... We took notes on my printed banquet menu kit so I could keep track of what we liked and didn't like (with input from the other great couples at our table) and we all agreed the food was far superior to other AI food out there. The cakes... Well some were dry- especially the cupcakes! But we found the chocolate, red velvet and champagne moist and delicious (we tried every flavor as a table and were pretty critical haha) As for generations... We found it pretty too- but agree the concrete in the ocean was horrendous and at the end of the day- I couldn't justify asking my guests spend $2500-$2800 a person to attend our wedding in high season (only time we can do it with my FI work). It will be somewhere I will definitely take my kids back to in the coming years. I agree things add up quickly, but by doing a bit of DIY and saving what's important we still feel good about it. Sorry to hear it didn't go well- but glad you were Able to see it and make your own decisions! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

???? Dorremixx is only $200?? Wow. That is cheap. (Mega DJ is $1000) I heard they are no longer allowing them on site either due to complaints. I would certainly get it in writing that they are allowed. I found mega DJ to be a great deal at $1000 and they have had great reviews so I see no need to spend the $800 fee even if they have now relaxed the policy! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I had a corset back on my wedding in my first marriage and it definitely helped in giving you a perfect fit. But I'm determined to NOT do anything similar to last time... Right down to the corset back so I'm thrilled you recommended a good seamstress cause I will likely need one to get the fit perfect. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

worried about low attendance for our wedding
kmk2016 replied to BethandBill's topic in Brides Roll Call
Well I officially hit day 30 of our 90 day contract to get our guests booked today... It's been nerve racking and I'm sure I'm driving my TA crazy (but she hasn't let on! Haha)... Our wedding is 18 months away and we have 60 days remaining on our RSVP/booking deadline. We officially have 47 people who have placed their deposits! (Of that, about 14 are kids! My two boys are thrilled about that- since it will be a real celebration for them too- and a trip they will remember for a lifetime!) I'm thrilled with the responses so far- and honestly, if everyone else says no- we still have some of our favorite people coming! (We invited 140... And so far only 4 have RSVP no... But we were aiming for 70-80 to actually attend). I'm breathing a big sigh of relief. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
My pricing is better than what I can see online, but prices aren't online yet for 2016- so I'm just looking at pricing as if my wedding were in 2015 and I'm happy with my quote. Im travelling with Sunwing/Signature, but your TA can give you all the options. I'm surprised that Air Transat is the only company that flight direct to Cancun! I was sure sunwing and air canada vacations did... And in fact I thought WJ vacations did to! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Can you share her info? Either pm or on the thread? I'm looking for a local seamstress for alterations too! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Not sure I understand your question... As a Canadian Bride, your TA will have gotten your group rate for you that would include flight, accommodation and transfers. You would have had to review the contract and then put down (in most Canadian cases) $150 for each you and your FI, which would then start your contract and allow your guests to book at that price for the following 90 day period. In addition to the contract price, you should be told any incentives (1 free for every "x" booked etc) You should NEVER put down a deposit on a contract that you don't have pricing on! Almost every tour operator also has a price drop guarantee that allows for a one time price reduction for your group so long as it occurs prior to your final payments due (usually 45-60 days out) The pricing my TA got for my group travelling in February 2016 (high season) at my resort (Azul Sensatori) was impressive and my guests were happy with the price based on the quality of resort and the pricing they see out there for it on travel sites. Congrats! And happy planning! Best advice is to start at the beginning of this thread and read read read! I found that reading the posts and answers from past brides gave me more information than I could ever get through the WC in Miami or online searching! This forum will be your best asset in planning your wedding! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Making Bouquets?
kmk2016 replied to chelseapaige37's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
I wouldn't assemble them the day before if fresh- they will not survive well. From past experience making bouquets for family weddings locally- you really need to assemble them the morning of the wedding for them to be perfect. Especially with the heat of Mexico. even making them in the am, and keeping them cool- we have found bouquets start to open a lot be ceremony time. I wouldn't want the stress on me as the bride. If you have someone you trust and who is experienced with it, maybe assign them to the task- you don't want to be worrying about doing that the morning of your wedding. JMO! Making Bouquets?
kmk2016 replied to chelseapaige37's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
If you are considering using fresh flowers and having someone pick them up at Costco the morning of the wedding, I would be too nervous to do that' seeing that inventory changes daily at Costco there would be no guarantee on Colors or flowers available! I guess if you didn't have a set color scheme and weren't fussy on what types of flowers you used, it could save money- but depending on your resort- Any savings could be lost in taxi fare to/from the flower store!
