  1. I own my own airbrush and use that most of the time.... Mac makes a professional foundation used in airbrush machines that is supposed to be great... I have had good and bad results with different brands of product but it definitely lasts longer without looking cakey! Getting the right color is key.
  2. Hmmmmm maybe!!! I'm a national director for a major beverage company. Plus I've been married before, (planned a very shoo shoo expensive in town wedding last time).....and I'm old! Hahahah... So put that together and maybe I have somehow learned tact! (Trust me- it isn't always the case!)
  3. We had a 90 day booking window. Once that is up they will have 13 months before final payments are due. (3 months before wedding date). That allows them time to put a bit down at a time or save... And allows hopefully for a price drop too! ( we get price protection via travel agent on our package)
  4. That's like us! We have almost 20 kids coming.... From 1 year old to 12! We chose a resort that really was fantastic for families.... And everyone is excited.
  5. Your holding a DW... Regardless if you have a website, or a great TA... You are STILL going from have people question you on the resort you picked. Nice part of having the website set up and it referenced on your invitations is it eliminates these conversations all together. They don't have to ask you- it's all there for them to look at. Depending on the situation, you will STILL have people complain it's too far or too expensive or not the resort THEY would have booked... Welcome to the world of DWs... Everyone has the same issues! But if you clearly outline pricing and directing people to only book with your TA it eliminates a lot of guests potentially not wanting to use her and booking on their own, waiting out for a last minute deal or not staying at your chosen hotel! (None of which are good when planning). If you aren't interested in doing a website, that's cool too- but you will still want to create something the explains your resort and gets people excited about your choice and gives them rough pricing so they are prepared before calling your TA.
  6. Unless they are still individually sealed I would say nay. There is no way I would take any medications that weren't clearly identified. The only thing I think where this could work is the sealed sleeves of peptobismal. I think you can buy a large box and inside are sleeves of 3 or 4 pepto in original packs. Staples has pretty good pricing for individual pack meds though! They sell them to places that have bathroom vending machines!
  7. This may be a TOTALLY dumb question... But where do you even get them developed anymore? Just blacks or Costco and like?? Like normal digital to print? We are going to use a hashtag instead and give everyone a "scavenger hunt" of things to photograph. Figuring people will all have smart phones and it's easier (and cheaper haha)
  8. Hahahahhahaha proper? Love it!!! Hahaha truth be told my FI was just too lazy to get his ass off the couch and phone his mom to ask about some of the spouses name spelling so we went with Mr/Mrs... He doesn't have FB either so I could even try to creep his guests! Haha only good thing is most of the "friend" guests are our mutual friends and I knew their names. There were a couple friends kids who I didn't know names of... I got them all from creeping (my side) but "and family" were addressed on his! (We needed actual names for website RSVP too- so I ended up calling his mom myself once I realized on the day we mailed invites. Oh well!) there was actually one friend of his who's kids are STILL named "son" and "daughter" in the online RSVP cause he didn't get me their names!
  9. I made my RSVP date the same as my booking deadline. On the second page of my boarding pass invite I directed people to our website by saying: To assist in providing you with information, we have created a website to help in your planning. Please use this website to RSVP to our big day by Sept 22, 2014. Then on the website I was more detailed. You can see it here Http://www.kimiandmark.com The booking info page gives direct info on deadlines etc. Everyone welcomed the information and no one found it rude. I have 61 people booked with 1 month to go before booking deadline.
  10. ? So you aren't having any type of RSVP for your actual wedding? Are you simply going to use your TA notes to make seating plans and your event details? I guess you could supply your TA a list of approved people who can purchase seats under your room block?! We have a separate RSVP page on our website specific to our wedding events. For our reception I needed to know food allergies etc and for our welcome dinner I needed to know their entree preference.
  11. Yeah I would strongly reccomend the owners of this sight- wright travel to help you... They are amazing from what I have seen from US brides and definitely know their stuff, I wouldn't hire a local (Texas) planner- you will be assigned wedding planners at your resort and it only helps to have some own familiar with local vendors and venues.... So check with wright travel or here on the boards on suggestions for local ones in Punta Cana. You may not need one though- most don't use them aside from the ones you work with once you select your resort.
  12. I would suggest finding a great TA that specializes in destination weddings to help you find the ideal resort. Not sure where you are from but Canada works different than US and will be important to find a TA that works in your home country. Canadian packages include air hotel and transfers while normally US includes hotel only (and often transfers) and flights are booked separately. I wouldn't worry too much about number or guests travelling yet... DW have a way of surprising you (in not always the best ways) of how many guests actually attend. (Age of guests, disposable income, length of flight, seasoned travellers, work or family commitments.... They all come into play) Make sure if you are inviting guests who are parents, to decide ahead of time if you want a child free wedding or welcoming kids as this will play into your resort choice! Congrats and happy planning
  13. The OP is over 3 yrs old... Likely won't see you request for the link. But once you hit 150 posts you will be able to open it and see the instructions (along with all others here on BDW) Welcome to this great site and happy planning!!'
  14. We did a Polaroid guest book at my first wedding and it was great.... Except for the drunk comments that started being written after the bar had been open for several hours! They wrote right in the book and then added the Polaroid photos in the book (I had pre-placed photo corners) and expected people to write nice messages beside their picture. Not sure if it was because the average guest was 30 and taking full advantage of the open bar but let's just say Grandma never looked through out guest book following the wedding!
  15. I am paying for my girl's dresses and then everyone is getting Rayban aviators and silk clutches that will also be used during the ceremony. They will of course also get OOT bags along with other guests.
  16. If you are doing the majority on the website you should be able to lock in actual RSVPs available under each head of household. (Not allowing for extra guests) For the paper ones, address them to the people who are invited. You can also make note of something like special pricing is available for you and ____ guests via our TA for your travel to our special day. (Fill in the number by hand)
  17. Yeah.... I'm not letting my FI anywhere near this thread. It can only lead to bad things! Haha
  18. TOTALLY! Though I think my walking suuuuuper slow past Tiffany every time we walked by made it a bit obvious which ring I wanted- so he didn't make the decision blindly! Hahaha.... I would go with a non-matching band but it would look funny and really- like you said, it's the one thing from the wedding that I will see every day! I will only see the Mariachi for 20 mins before taking off for pictures and that is the cost of 1/2 my ring! So it's a total bargain really!
  19. Been to Belize... I found it more "buggy" than other tropical locals (sand fleas, scorpions, cockroaches) Honduras too- but both were pretty! And didn't see snakes where we were (though I'm sure they are in the juggle brush)... Just didn't see them at our resorts.
  20. Generally speaking flights out of Mexico and on to another sun destination are expensive... Even if you hop to Mexico City for your out of country departure. You may find it less expensive to move hotels and try a different resort for your honeymoon- or you may find a cruise that allows Embarkation in Mexico but travels to other destinations?
  21. I've been to mexico over a dozen times and never seen one either! I freak at cockroaches and haven't seen one of those at a hotel except once on a girls trip where we went with a 3 star resort and learned our lesson! If I saw a snake or tarantula I would lose it.... I think the reviewer may have been exaggerating or was a total rarity! I would not make this a thought in your mind... It won't happen to you!
  22. @@TinkerSofi I can't let my FI see that your band was $600... He will kill me! Mine is $2200!!! (The matching one to my e-ring). I told him that was standard for bands! Shhhhhhhhh Our budget is going out the window... We are now looking at about 85 who will book by our deadline in a month, (62 booked as of today), and I'm realizing that even with DIY projects, the entertainment and private events alone are gonna put me well over the $15,000 we were hoping to spend on the actual wedding itself. Thankfully we have earned credits with our TA making our travel cost free and having some more remaining to help cover the costs of our kids and help a few family members... But it's certainly not cheap. Oh well! It will be a trip of a lifetime and a perfect way to start our new life as a family.
  23. I realize that DR has many Spanish speaking people and it is considered their National language... I also realize Haiti is on the other side... I have travelled to DR many times.... But I was just surprised that they are strict with Spanish required for legal ceremony since every time we have travelled there many "locals" spoke fluent French and it was explained to us that many flee Haiti and have ultimately had generations keep the French heritage/language while being several generations in DR.
  24. I would go with her but let her know you have no intention of choosing a dress that day (leave your credit card at home if necessary) tell her you want to try on silhouettes and get an idea of what makes you feel beautiful but are not ready to purchase yet. Then she can be a part of the process and feel like MoB but not affect your ultimate decision.
