  1. The nickel and diming makes me a bit nervous, we’re already over budget! Then again, you only get married once. Does anyone have Laura’s contact info?
  2. Haha, I keep telling people that if I’m already anxious a year out, I’m going to be A MESS as the day gets closer. Weddings are hard.
  3. Thanks for the clarification! My wedding's so far away I haven't even contacted Chandlyn yet. I can't believe my luck, I'm in Toronto too so I could definitely get in touch with Laura if I had to, yay!
  4. Child-friendly is also the reason we chose RWS. Our nephew/ring-bearer will be 3 and a lot of our friends will be bringing kids ranging from a year old to 12 years old. Ultimately it’s the parents’ decision whether they want to bring kids or not, but I love including kids in weddings, it’s not the same without them!
  5. My parents are throwing an AHR for me a month after our wedding and have hired a wedding coordinator to help them with the planning process. Apparently they mentioned to her that I am having my destination wedding at RWS and she completely GUSHED about the place! She went recently to scout the place and loved the resort so much that she wants to have HER wedding there! When a wedding coordinator wants to have her own wedding in a certain place, that’s a serious seal of approval!
  6. Congrats, I’m so happy for you!! I get so happy every time another couple books here! We have also booked our wedding at Royalton, May 27/2015! While I already have all the PDFs relating to the flowers/services they offer, I can’t see any of the photos, do you mind sending them to me? My email is [email protected] Was Chandlyn the wedding coordinator at RWS? I’m planning on emailing soon and knowing the wedding coordinator’s name would really help!
  7. Wow @@CherJK thanks for sharing your finds!
  8. We’ve decided to bring our own photographer from home (she’s doing our engagement photos and our at-home church wedding), it’s an extra cost but I’ve seen her in action before at a previous destination wedding I went to, so I know she knows her stuff and vibes with us. I’m also Canadian! From Scarborough specifically.
  9. David’s Bridal is where I found my dress! The sales people there were way friendlier and more honest than any other shop I went to. Good luck!
  10. Welcome aboard! Seems like RWS is a popular choice not just for weddings; my friend’s dad is going to be staying there in June, instead of staying with their family in Kingston. Sure inspires a lot of confidence in my choice, LOL!
  11. We were also (basically) decided on Iberostar but RWS came out of nowhere and stole our hearts. It’s definitely a matter of balancing what we want and what will make for a fantastic vacation for our guests. We want them to have an experience they never forget!
  12. Aww that’s sweet and hilarious all at the same time! I’m loving these stories, I actually wanted a super non-magical proposal (because I’m the opposite of romantic/sentimental) but my FH did something really special for me instead.
  13. RWS Montego Bay on May 27, 2015!
  14. Honestly I am not the kind of person who dreamed of having a DW, I assumed I’d have a traditional local (Indian) wedding, but then it became more and more apparent that my parents wanted to invite 300 of their friends. I really dislike the idea of random acquaintances that I can’t even identify by name at my wedding, so the DW became an attractive alternative. My parents can still invite all their friends, but the chances that any of these 300 friends will travel to Jamaica is close to zero. I feel bad that most of my close friends can’t come, but I totally understand if cost is an issue, plus they are still happy and excited for me and hope my wedding is a blast.
  15. This is something I’m confused about as well! I think I will end up using the second date (our DW) because that’s the day we will be married under both of our religions and not just one.
  16. Very interesting! I’m going to incorporate as much local rum in my wedding as I can. ;D
  17. *waves* May 27, 2015 wedding for us! We also wanted early May but my MOH/sister has her licensing exam for becoming a practicing physician sometime during the beginning of May, so we’ve had to avoid doing anything during that timeframe. We’re going to be doing a Hindu wedding ceremony in Jamaica, which is a whole another layer of complicated. We’ve booked the resort (Royalton White Sands) but we still need to speak with the priest directly (there’s only ONE Hindu priest who does weddings in all of Jamaica). We’re also doing a small Catholic church wedding at home before the DW, so my planning is split between two places! But I’m still having so much fun with it.
  18. I’m still undecided. I’ve gone to two DWs before and both locations had their issues. The first one was in Panama and wasn’t on the beach, it was underneath this massive gorgeous tree (that we nicknamed “The Tree Of Life”) but because it was more in the interior of the resort there was no breeze and the poor guys were sweating through their shirts and pants! The second DW was in DR and right on the beach, but it was so windy that the sheers were blowing around and no one’s hair would stay in place! Also, sand was getting everywhere and there were onlookers in all the photos. Personally if my FH has to sweat a bit so that my hair stays in place, I think I’d be fine with that.
  19. My parents are throwing us an AHR about a month after our DW. The only cost is going to be whatever I need to pay for my lengha’s alterations (the outfit itself is a gift from my parents), otherwise we just need to show up and look pretty. I know very little about what will be involved, but I know there will be at least 300 people (as opposed to our DW which is 30-40 people), it’ll be catered/buffet. No photographer, no cake, no formal invitations, just a big Indian party with good food and dancing and 90% of my parents’ friends.
  20. We were totally going to go with Iberostar but at the last minute changed to Royalton White Sands, we just fell in love with how modern it looked! Our travel agent specializes in destination weddings and especially Indian destination weddings, and she said Iberostar is great for Indian weddings, but Royalton has this perfect little gazebo we thought would be perfect, and wedding coordinator there has done Indian weddings before too. Our TA also suggested Lady Hamilton/Palladium for an Indian wedding.
  21. We’re getting married May 27-2015 at Royalton White Sands in Montego Bay! Suuuuuper excited.
  22. Settling back into the work week after a massively productive weekend! Signed a contract with our travel agent agreeing to the flight and resort, plus... I bought my wedding dress! It’s exactly what I envisioned, but BETTER. It’s not going to be ready until end of June, but that’s fine with me. It’s just nice to have something else knocked off the list All in all I am happy with how the planning is going, but as of a couple weeks ago me and my FH sat down and redid our budget and realized it’s actually going to be twice as big as we originally wanted. Now, our original goal was very low so it’s not like our wedding budget is sky high now, it’s just disappointing. But necessary. It’s just a matter of coming to terms with the new plan. This is, after all, not like when I emptied my RRSPs to buy my condo. My condo has equity at least. When I empty my savings a second time, it is money I will never get back.
  23. May 27, 2015 at Montego Bay! I’m so excited, everyone keeps telling me how amazing Jamaica is and I’ve never been before.
