  1. We are making sure ours is good before people get our website from the save the dates. I have "more info to come" under registries now but hoping to have it finished within a few days!
  2. I found mine at minted.com. We had a couple e-pics on there, the date, our website, a quick "bag your bags were getting married in riviera maya blah blah", I did not include the resort name, just riviera maya. Our wedding is in 8.5 months and we will send STDs next week. Everyone who is invited knows through word of mouth already so it's just a formality and a way to get the website out.
  3. Have you booked your wedding or just looking for general info?
  4. Slowly getting there
  5. We had planned on a legal wedding in Mexico but after lots of horror stories and at the advice from our travel agent and lots of brides, we are getting married at home before we go and having a symbolic ceremony (no one will know this though shhh). I don't feel like a courthouse wedding will feel very real anyways haha so our anniversary will be our wedding day in Mexico (Feb 23). Our courthouse only does weddings on Fridays but the Friday before we leave is Friday the 13th!! Not superstitious but ehhhhh we decided on the 6th instead :-) Anyways the problem I've heard with legal weddings is that it's no problem when you're there (get there 4 business days before, bring birth certificates, blood test, etc), but it's when you get home where the trouble starts. Until you have your marriage certificate, you are not married in the eyes if the government. I have talked to brides who haven't gotten the certificate sent for months and months (the worst I've heard was over a year) and once you do get it, you have to pay to get it translated into English. During that time you cannot change your name, go onto your hubby's insurance, etc. So it just seems like added stress. My symbolic ceremony is going to be the wedding I've always dreamed of :-)
  6. I'm interested in this as well. Originally we wanted a small wedding but I ordered save the dates yesterday and it came out to 52 cards i.e. 140ish people!! Yikes. Interested in seeing who books. So far we will have 22 for sure (immediate family + me/fiancé).
  7. We're in the process of registering as we've had a few people say they won't be able to make the wedding but want to send a gift. I'm not having a shower though (my own choice) but my MOH/sister is planning a bachelorette party!
  8. We have a room block through a travel agent. We let all immediate family know through word of mouth to book so they are guaranteed a room. Everyone else will find out from our website (that has travel agent's information), when they receive save the dates.
  9. Dreams Riviera Cancun in high season (Feb 23 wedding); Apple Vacations charter package (includes nonstop air to/from Chicago O'Hare, nonstop ground transfers to/from resort, one free checked bag each way, and accomodations) 7 nights $2100/person 5 nights $1700/person 4 nights $1500/person 3 nights $1340/person
  10. I'm thinking of a catamaran cruise in place of the welcome party! Mariachi during cocktail hour is included in our package but we're not telling anyone so it'll be a surprise :-)
  11. @@MrsRoy haha I'm in the same boat! My fiance and I were just saying today "I hope xxxx doesn't come" lol
  12. I let my travel agent do all the work :-) When they call her, she gives them all the details. I'd say about 50% of guests though know through word of mouth when payments are due.
  13. @@TheBHolders At the end of the day, you have to do what makes you happy. You can't please everyone, and the people who want to be there will find a way to make it happen. With that said, though I loved the Iberostar Grand, I just couldn't ask my guests to pay that rate. I decided on Dreams Riviera Cancun, which is still pricey ($2100/per person/per week), but I believe you get what you pay for. People who have never been to Mexico or don't get the concept of all-inclusive don't seem to understand this! If you're confronted with criticism (I have been a couple times...but from people who don't truly matter to me), just reply that having a destination wedding is what makes you and your fiance happy, and the resort you chose was perfect for what you wanted for you and your guests.
  14. @@prisp thanks girl! I would love to see pics and the video. I am most likely going with anel for photog because what I've seen has been really great, but I haven't seen any examples of video. You can direct message if you'd like! Thank you!!
  15. My wedding is in Feb 2015, and our save the dates are going out next month because everyone who's invited already knows :-) we have a website and rooms blocked so in my case, save the dates are more of a formality (and they're pretty) :-)
  16. That's sketchy. Seriously they sent me prices 2 weeks prior and then they increased. I never signed the contract because I emailed asking about it and they never replied!
  17. That's what I'm trying to figure out!!! Do we just book a regular room and expect them to upgrade us??? That's what I was planning...Hahaha or do we stay with others and then have people switch rooms after the wedding? I feel like I'll just wing it. Maybe see what my travel agent recommends based on her experience with them. @@smileitseb After my site visit I was given all the prices, then when I confirmed my date 2 weeks later the prices magically went up by a few hundred. I'm going to ignore the price increase and tell them I only received the first quote. Because I smell bullsh*t....I also emailed them asking about prices but they never responded
  18. How long as you ladies staying? My fiancé and I are staying 9 days with most family members staying a week, not sure about friends yet. Are you planning on staying with your fiancé the whole time? I know they're supposed to give him a free room the night before but i kind of planned on not staying with him till the wedding day! Maybe it would be confusing if the hotel wants to give us upgrades and stuff. I feel like I'm worrying too much. Thoughts?
  19. @@smileitseb I'm not sure if we'll get them personalized but there is a company out of Texas (I've seen them through other brides' posts) that does great maracas for favors! I'll try to find the name. I also saw 2-3 weddings there in feb. Guests are very respectful of the wedding. With that said, you are on the pool deck and people in bikinis will be watching/turn their chairs to watch haha but if anyone is too close or in the photogs way the wedding coordinators do a great job of shoo-ing them away. They used to block off the gazebo from the pool with white curtains but I saw that in pictures from 2010 and didn't see it happen when I was there so maybe it's not offered anymore.
  20. @@pddcmc I actually found the name of the videog - grupo JCM or something (it's in the current FAQ section on their site). They used to go with Cancun wedding video but that was years ago. I still can't find examples though! @@Wedding2014 Mexican night is every Saturday and every Wednesday is Caribbean night. It surrounds the activity pool and they have live music throughout. Oceana is pushed back though, behind the seaside grille, so I think you should be ok. I can send you pics of Mexican night if you want to see the extent!
