  1. @@MichelleT These songs are beautiful and your guitarist sounds amazing! I'm listening to his playlist now :-)
  2. I'm in a sort of similar situation...I sent the invite just to be done with it.
  3. I got Vera Wang invites through a paper store in Chicago. We felt more comfortable with an actual person helping us customize the invites and ensure that the process went smoothly.
  4. Because of the reef, I wouldn't count on any resorts in RIv Maya to allow them. My resort (Dreams Riviera Cancun) doesn't allow fake flower petals either because it's a protected wildlife area. I think that's great though :-) though I LOVE the lanterns!
  5. My FI and I are lucky enough to have our parents pay for almost everything. His parents are covering the welcome dinner since there is no rehearsal dinner, and my parents are covering the wedding. I've put in quite a bit in terms of deposits and FI paid enough for my ring. We both have advanced degrees and he's in the middle of paying his student loans and I recently bought a house, so we're not in the position of shelling out the amount this wedding is costing, which is definitely not cheaper than it would have been at home in Chicago. I hope that we are able to pay for our children's wedding someday too, but we have been very fortunate.
  6. @@hsocorso Check out the Dreams Riviera Cancun 2015 Brides thread!
  7. Nice idea! We are doing pre-travel letters with a CD to get people in the mood
  8. We are having a symbolic ceremony with a lady who speaks perfect English. We saw her do many ceremonies during our site visits and are going to personalize the ceremony with her a few days before.
  9. I'm going with Styling Trio for airbrush hair and makeup for wedding day and trial.
  10. This is my maid of honor's dress (not having bridemaids): It's erin fetherston coralie, here is the link http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/erin-erin-fetherston-coralie-foiled-silk-chiffon-gown/3740794?cm_em=&cm_mmc=email_tran-_-091914-_-ship_confirm-_-proddescr1
  11. I said resort chic and specified to wear shoes as no wedding day events are on the sand! I loved the all white idea but half my family already bought their outfits and shot that down asap lol
  12. @@goldammerpayne I am in Chicago too and wanted someone local that I could meet with and call anytime I needed them. I went with a local travel agency in Bartlett, IL, JDK Travel. They have been wonderful and my guests have nothing but positive things to say about Deb!
  13. @@smileitseb Yes! Both site visits (the initial one where we chose the resort and the 2nd 6 months later to meet with the WC and start initial planning) my fiance and I got the reduced rate of $110/person/night. Anyone else traveling with you does not get the rate though. And David is the right person, he'll connect you with reservations.
  14. Very pretty :-) I got my flower from Nordstrom, it was the first one I ordered and was like, alright it's good! I find myself super picky about some things and other things are easy peasy haha
  15. @@hellosassypants I got Vera Wang invitations through a paper store in Chicago, and they were $10 each. For 50 invitations, we paid $500 but they gave us way more, like 70-80. I am not DIY at all, and though I'm sure buying online is fine, we wanted to work with someone personally to make sure the invites were perfect and customized to exactly what we wanted. It worked for us! Good luck with yours, hope you find what you're looking for!
  16. Hey ladies! We're down to 74 days until my big day and we're starting to crack down on choosing songs for the ceremony. We are having a guitarist (no iPod) so I have to find songs that translate to the acoustic guitar, which is not as easy as it sounds! Does anyone have any suggestions or willing to share their playlist if you had a guitarist? Gracias
  17. Videography is included in my wedding package (just a short film of the ceremony), so we were going to upgrade to the full day, but after seeing examples of their videographer, I decided to go with an external vendor. I get a 5 min highlight film and a 60 min wedding vid for $1750 for 8 hours. Can't wait!
  18. @@pddcmc Oh wow a move just a few months before the wedding?! That's very exciting though, I've never been to Denver but it seems like a great place especially if you love the outdoors :-) I am much more stressed now. When I first started planning the wedding it was high stress with finding a resort and getting the contract taken care of, then things settled for a couple months, then they got crazy again with STDs, invites, travel agents, and finding the dress, then they settled down again! But starting about a month ago, things have gotten much more stressful. Claudia and I have exchanged the planner form a few times and I'm also dealing with getting things for the OOT bags, ordering things from vistaprint (menus, tags for maracas, itineraries etc). It's just a lot at once but things that really couldn't be done until I had a bettter vision of the wedding...aka now. But I have complete faith in Claudia that everything will be perfect! We are 74 days from wedding day and 69 days from leaving for DRC! It'll be here so quickly!
  19. @@smileitseb Yes, the hotel is sold out for my week, but we reserved a large block, so no one had any trouble with rooms!
  20. @@smileitseb We decided on Indigo Videography. It was really hard to find a videographer with the style I like and a decent price point and I think he is most consistent with a video you'd see in the US The nickel and diming is ridiculous. I'm getting the chandelier for the ceremony for $200 (it's a 20 minute ceremony!) and I asked if we could use it at the reception too, and they want to charge me another $100 "moving fee." Plus 16% tax and 15% service fee on top of everything. It really adds up. I'm starting to get offended when people say "Oh it's cheaper to get married in Mexico, right?"
  21. We'll have been together 5 years when we get married and we'll both in our late-28s! I would like to be preggers by 30. If I was getting married younger though, I would definitely wait. For us, being financially stable is our priority, and we just didn't have that years ago. We want me to be able to be a stay at home mom at least while the little one is...little! Best of luck to you both!
  22. I think that is wonderful! You are very lucky to have such a great FMIL.
  23. February 23, 2015 at Dreams Riviera Cancun! 78 days!!!
  24. @@colleentf09 are you me?! hahaha this is literally exactly what happened tonight. My FI and I originally were going to do the legal thing in Mexico but at the advice of many (including our wedding coordinator) decided to do it at home and have symbolic there. We had planned on not telling anyone, but my parents are paying and would see it on the budget form, and for some reason, my FI told his parents. Now his parents want to come to the courthouse. When I told my parents, they got upset and are telling us to get married after because getting married before by 2 weeks "is way too long." I told them getting married after would make the wedding day in Mexico not feel real, and the courthouse is nothing but an errand in my mind. I'm seriously going in jeans. My wedding day is our day in Mexico in my mind! I told my FI we never should have told anyone because now both our parents are upset. I'm thinking of telling them we changed our minds to legal in Mexico and telling the wedding coordinator to take it off the budget form so they won't see. Seriously. I don't get the what the big deal is.
