  1. @Mrsktobe what kind of Bubbas did you get for your guests? I don't know much about them, but I think I need to get one!
  2. All I can say is apply, reapply and reapply some more. I've been to Cancun with friends in the past who tan easily and didn't worry too much about sunscreen (put it on once in the morning and forgot about it), and ended up completely fried by day 2, so be extra careful with your kiddies!
  3. Yes, be sure to let us know how your lashes look when you get them off!
  4. @@tygrrlily Thanks for these advice! Was it hard to take care of them between showering, swimming, washing your face, etc.? Basically I want to know if there's any way I can screw them up and end up looking awful on my wedding day
  5. I think I have to invest in one of these Bubbas for myself and FI. The bigger the better
  6. As a Cancun-regular and self-admitted whitey, this sunscreen in my life saver down there. It's a little more expensive, and the bottle is a little smaller than normal sunscreen, so I try to use it mostly on my face and nose so I don't end up looking like Rudolph, but I think I'm going to splurge and use it all over in the days before the wedding. A few bottles of expensive sunscreen is better than being peely in my wedding pictures!
  7. From my understanding you can only have $300 in gifts, i.e. things you are giving to other people. But I'm wondering how you differentiate gifts from supplies? Do they take your word for it? I'm sure brides who have done this already would have some better insight!
  8. @@Kayla88 I think my decision will be partially based on the tumbler I pick...if I splurge a little on nice ones and think they'd actually use it after the trip, I wouldn't put our name on it, but if I go for a more economical option (aka, a cheapy one!) that's mostly just meant to use for the week, I might slap our names on it!
  9. @@Kayla88 Do you mind me asking what the deal with the Bubba tumblers are? I've heard everyone raving about them--are they just really nice tumblers or is there something unique about them?
  10. @@calgarybride2015 I think I'll have to suck it up and have a whole tumbler suitcase--I'd really rather have them than stadium cups! I found these on Save a Cup, they're quite cute and not a bad price: http://www.saveacup.com/skinny-acrylic-tumbler-double-wall-16-oz/ I also had another Destination bride tell me that they checked their tumbler bag and many of them broke from the air pressure, so everyone might want to think about adding that to their list of carry-ons!
  11. @@farsgetswed I got these: 50 for $10.60! They've already arrived and I think they'll work great! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BM3D8UI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 My coils arrived too and they're perfect If you're going to order your coils from that site though, pay close attention cause it defaults to sending you a bunch of multicolored ones--If you want specific colors, you have to mention it in the comments section when you're checking out. I got half solid pink ones, and half of the orange/yellow multicolored ones.
  12. Exactly--"rainy season" lasts practically all year. My travel agent told me that it doesn't mean it rains all the time, it just means it's more likely, but in Mexico the weather blows through so quickly you barely even know it's there. I wouldn't let the date deter you, at the end of the day you can't control the weather either way so just hope for the best!
  13. Like the other brides said, most people won't go "expecting" a bag--it seems like a given since we're all so immersed in the site, but I don't see how anyone else would even know what an OOT bag was! Personally I think I'd be thrilled with a super nice tumbler, so I say go for it!
  14. Thanks @@jh0510038 for the Dollar Tree link! That's definitely an great economical option? Has anyone bought tumblers that stack well? I've been chatting with a lovely bride who's already had her wedding that I found through his site, and her biggest advice was to find tumblers that stack to save packing space, but I don't know how you can tell online. And what are everyone's thoughts on including your name/date on your tumblers? A part of me doesn't want to so no one feels strange about using them after the fact, but a part of me thinks why the heck not, it's a fun memory!
  15. I REALLY hope they let us extend our reception until 11 at Castaways....3 hours just isn't long enough!!
  16. I'm starting to get a little annoyed by all the nickel and diming, to be honest. I feel like there's a lot of extra charges than what was spelled out on the original information I received. I got an email back from Pilar about the day pass for photographers and she said it's $150 instead of $65. When I said that's not what I was promised, she said that was "the best she could do."
  17. See, I feel like I've been able to download most of the kind of stuff I've run into! Guess I should just count myself lucky, but I'm sure I'll find something I can't download to motivate me off of my noob status!
  18. What a great attitude! I also subscribe to the belief that everything happens for a reason, so I'm sure things will work out perfectly for you and your soon to be hubby!
  19. @@jsparrow10 I will! And I just noticed in your profile that you're from Akron--I'm a proud University of Akron Alumni Go Zips!
  20. I'm so NOT a DIY bride and I think that's part of the reason why I'm having trouble! Haha!
  21. I'm having my photos done by Photos in Cancun and this just made me even more thrilled with my decision! Thanks for sharing
  22. I think it's hard to go wrong with the Riviera Maya, but I might be biased since that's where mine is All of our guests have been SHOCKED at how affordable it is, especially those who haven't been on a "tropical" vacation before, and still lots of history and activities, and travel (from Cleveland, at least) has always been a piece of cake. My resort is the Now Jade--beautiful, affordable, and AWESOME food (we've visited several times). I'd definitely recommend it!
  23. I met with a travel agent at first with virtually nothing in mind other than "Somewhere around Cancun," and she just talked with us about a bunch of different resorts and sort of walked us through what the entire process would be. I had no idea about a date or anything, and she was able to advise us on that too and give us her opinions on the best times of year based on prices, hurricane seasons, etc. From there we were able to do our own research and then nail down a date and the resort with her, and then we started spreading the news by word of mouth. People started booking a few months later. One thing I'll say about this forum is that it can be a little overwhelming, especially when you're first getting started, cause so many of these brides are so awesome and crafty and organized that it made me feel hopeless! While I WISH I could be like them and doing all these awesome DIY projects and having everything hyper-organized a year in advance, the fact of the matter is that that's just not me! So I guess I'm saying don't be too freaked out and feeling like you're super behind, I think you have plenty of time
