  1. @@misbosox I have dealt with travel agents several times when it comes to destination weddings. Now I don't know if I have good luck with them or what...but they've always saved me lots of money. a couple years ago I found rates cheaper than what the TA was quoting. I asked why should I book with u when I found it cheaper. she told me she has the ability to change rezos if special offers become available. I took a gamble and booked with her... and it really paid off. a couple weeks later dreams offered the honeymoon suite for the same price as the basic room we had booked. there weren't pics online but it had to be better than the basic room. when we got there our suite was beyond amazing! it was 2 stories, 2 balconies, 2 bathrooms, ocean view. we ended up being the room everyone came to for the party! so worth it. then with our wedding we were originally quoted one price and once we agreed the TA contacted my about a week later that she was able to negotiate the room $500 cheaper! So I always so go with a TA. They have done amazing things for me. At first I pay a lil more...but they do their jobs and really work for the customer!
  2. im keeping it simple for my mom. im getting the bridesmaids personalized hangers, robes, flip flops, embroidered beach bags & their jewelry. Im just going to include my mom in all that stuff. we're aren't the sappy, sentimental types... Ill also do a parent album for her after the wedding.
  3. Probably going to bring my own centerpieces. My theme is peacock so we were thinking of doing these ostrich feather centerpieces and have them lighted to match our wedding colors. My wedding is very small so we will prob only need 3 at the most...hopefully that wont be too much to lug down.
  4. A friend if mine got married at playacar palace I. January and the weather was beautiful!
  5. I'm pretty close. I'm a huge dork and I've been on the site for about a week straight. Didn't take much time to get to the goal
  6. @@misbosox. Beware the karisma Florida planners. Terrible service. I've read te same from many others on here dealing with the same probs as me. I'm 80 days out from my wedding with no plans really set.
  7. Starting early has pros and cons. For me it gave me more opportunities to change my mind... However it does give u a lot of time to space out ur costs. Things like bridal party gifts can add up. I knew I wanted to do the personalized hangers n robes for the girls. All things that could b ordered early and set aside for later. Book as soon as u are sure where u wanna be. If budget allows do site visits! Good luck n congrats!
  8. Trust me... Ppl dont feel obligated. I've had a bridesmaid drop out & I was in her wedding. 2 other bridesmaids- who's wedding I was also in will only be there 2 night. Another friend decided to get pregnant instead of waiting- that couple got engaged while we were saving for our wedding. We decided to put ours off so we could attend their destination. My list could go on. In my mind I didn't expect many to come... However those ppl weve done destination for or I call good friends were expected to attend... They however did not feel the same
  9. the grey groomsmen pic is what im going for... saw the same pic and loved it. not sure about ties. Groomsmen in white and FI in a color so he stands out.. not 100% yet
  10. we are paying for our own and it has been hard. I work 3 jobs and my FI works 6days a week. we decided to do destination bc it was more affordable and also counts as our honeymoon. Our registry is also a honeymoon registry that will go directly to helping us afford our stay. When booking, I didn't care what the families thought. If they don't want to help pay for stuff then they don't get a say.
  11. @@jasstz my planner is carol ramon. she is the third one. I booked my wedding January 2013. one day I just get an email saying so and so is no longer with us...this person is now taking over. as for decorations...im doing a la carte. my theme is peacock. the collections don't fit and its $3000 just to decorate for the ceremony. Im trying to keep costs down. after wedding we hope to buy a house...so we don't want to start our lives owing.
  12. Does anyone know of any salons we can go to? What is the standard cost for bridal hair and makeup? I wanted to use Norma from MAC but its prob gonna be too expensive. $130 for makeup $120 for hair $80 day pass for the resort Total- $330 for hair/makeup? I don't know if I can justify that.
  13. Hi Everyone... My wedding is quickly approaching- April 12, 2014. Just wondering what Rivera Maya brides are doing about hair and makeup? Are u using the salon at the resort or looking for outside vendors? If you're going the outside vendor route...who are u using? I'm not sure what to do. Ive read great things about Norma from MAC...and I love mac here at home. she quoted my $130 for my makeup and $120 for hait (she also works with stylists) On top of those prices I will most likely have to pay $80 for a day pass! that's puts me over $300 for hair and make up! Does anyone else find that insane?
  14. thanks. ive been debating back and forth on how I feel about everything. the necklace set is only available online and cant be returned. my theme is peacock and I think they look peacock inspired. on the fence about doing all bling or doing something with an actual feather embellishment. prob just gonna order everything and when I go for a fitting try it all on and decide from there
