  1. @@pandahugs We are getting married November 21, 2014, and we will be flying home the day before thanksgiving, and then we have christmas and new years, so I think we've been planning tentatively for the middle of January...about 7 weeks after we get married, I think that seems like a reasonable amount of time. We still haven't booked a photographer because I haven't been able to convince my FI it's worth the money, but I have not given up hope @@megthomson You made your 150 posts! Congratulations. But I think its up to you how long you wait, I think 6-8 weeks is standard, but I mean, when it comes to a destination wedding nothing is really standard so I agree that it's pretty much up to you.
  2. @@megthomson I know it! I'm hoping that we can get a discount on the rental fees because I work for a government agency and we operate several of them, but I feel like I need decorations and things and I know it will add up really quickly.
  3. @@candle23 Yay! another Now Jade bride. That place is so popular it seems. I was sold instantly also, for our budget it was perfect!
  4. I am always looking for stuff also! it's probably a good thing we have this site or we'd all drive our fiancés crazy! @@megthomson There are a ton of templates and measurements from the resort posted on my resort forum i really want access to! good luck on your goal
  5. These look fantastic. I just started mine last night. I worked on them forever and they're still not exactly what I'm wanting. I'm sure I'll change them 100x before they actually go to print!
  6. @@ylan9383 Yay! Everything is so much exciting after you actually get a date booked! That was a mess for us because all the dates we wanted were taken and we had to have a friday just simply because of vacation schedules for my fiancé.
  7. @@Stack02 we're using a dark purple and silver I believe, or more of a pewter? I'm still very undecided on colors. I originally wanted an orange and fuchsia but it seems like alot of people are using those colors so we decided to mix it up and go with something less "beachy"
  8. @@megthomson we have the same problem with weather, it will definitely need to be indoors because I don't want to wait 6 months until the weather gets nice!
  9. @@Stack02 when you get 150 posts it allows you to open the attachments that people have put in their posts.
  10. If you're worried about your guests, as I was, i would agree with @@megthomson because you can get STD out as soon as you book. I also included a short letter with mine letting people know of the estimated costs but they could request their own quotes from our travel agent! We are getting married at the Now Jade resort in riviera cancun because it was the best we could find for the money we wanted our guests to spend. Our budget was a little higher than what i thought theirs would be and the NOW Jade accommodated both of these and they offer great wedding packages. @@npenney4188 just somethings for you to consider!
  11. No, I wouldn't wear my dress. I thought maybe we could forgo the bridal shower and everything and just do one event as a send off party the weekend before we leave. I haven't ran this by my FI yet though and the AHR was his idea. I just do not want my AHR to come off as a ploy for us to just get gifts since we decided on a small wedding away. And we're getting married at then end of november, so that puts us right in the midst of holiday season when we return, it could get messy and stressful trying to plan another event right after the wedding. Also, I have read etiquette posts that say you should not invite anyone to your reception that isn't invited to your wedding? But I feel like that advice might be a little outdated. Everyone we invited to actual ceremony will be coming because we only invited our very close friends and family. However, i still have aunts and cousins and things that I am fairly close to and would like them to be a part of our wedding. I think I just talked myself into an AHR again
  12. I agree! I wanna wear my dress, but I still want casual and not too wedding like...because then I don't see the point of having a destination wedding. It will be winter time when we return so it ruins the outside park idea I originally had. What do you think of a send-off party instead of an after reception?
  13. I'm still not 100% on my wedding colors. Definitely doing a purple, other than that i don't know. with no wedding party it's not a huge deal, so luckily i have some time to decide. Might end up with Purple and Coral.
  14. we are bringing chair sashes and a few centerpieces with us, we are having only about 30 people so i only need 3 centerpieces. Stuff for place cards, napkins, and lanterns. My guest book will just be a bunch of postcards so i'll buy those while I'm down there and put them in the OOT bags so that stuff doesn't need to come with us...That's all
  15. We are going to do an AHR when we return from Mexico, but i'm struggling with how much like a "reception" it should be. Should we do our dances again and wear our wedding gear and stuff? Cake cutting and all that? Or just have a dinner and conversation, maybe a DJ? what is everyone else doing?
  16. I'm nervous about a registry. i feel like some people might think it's not appropriate, so i don't think we'll do one. I have read that as long as the stuff you're asking for is not actually a piece of the wedding, it's acceptable but it still seems a little off to me.
  17. Yeah, my resort didn't recommend it. I'm just going to try and pack as lightly as I can and just take an extra suitcase down there with me with our decorations and OOT bags and stuff. And we'll be able to use it with extra things we acquire while we're down there, such as souvenirs. We have a toddler, so i'll be packing as lightly as possible.
  18. Congrats!! Good luck in the planning process! There are so many newbies on since the holidays. It's so exciting.
  19. We chose ours because of the great wedding packages and the value of the resort for the cost...also, it has a concrete padded pergola area where we can married almost on the beach without all the sand! I was sold when i knew i could wear heels Now Jade 2014! Riviera Maya.
  20. Getting a such a jump will allow you to look for great deals and do a lot of DIY if you want too! That is what we're doing. we booked a year in advance, so i have some time also, but so far i've done pretty much nothing except send out save the dates And i have my dress, but i've had it for a very long time because we've been engaged about 3 years !
  21. Congratulations Ladies! There are so many great resorts, it can be difficult to narrow down. But i would definitely get one picked and reserve a date. It took us almost a month to get a date confirmation because they're so busy and all the dates we originally wanted were booked. I'm hoping that when i have the money I'll still be able to get a photographer! Good luck in the planning.
  22. We are booked at Now Jade in the Riviera Maya for November 2014. We had to have family friend because there are going to be kids invited, and we'll have a toddler by that time. We were sold on it right away and they offer great wedding packages. We will only have about 20-25 guests so it will be small and intimate. If you stay under 25 people, it's a very good deal.
  23. That is super rude! They should be taken seriously. it's still a wedding and still requires planning and a budget!
  24. Welcome! There is a ton of great information and ideas here. Good luck with the planning.
