@@cmingalone that seems very expensive. My seamstress is charging me 500 but I went with a few of my friends for their fittings and depending on what bustle they chose they were charged bit more. I live in NYC where everything is overpriced and 900would give me sticker shock. Are you going to a very high end salon or having a lot of alterations done. They do charge by the about of work they have to do? This may be why.

Hi Jenna! Congratulations!! My name is Jackie and my fiancee, Dan and I will be getting married on June 8th at NOW Sapphire. So far we have about 21 people booked -I think a lot of people are waiting until after the holidays to book their trip. I have taken care of my major vendors. I got the call last night that my dress arrived!!! I am cracking down now on the small stuff… OOT bags, favor, etc. How is your planning going? This is so exciting… we are only 5 months away.

Hi Ladies!! So I am now starting to panic. I just e-mailed the invitation company that all my fiends used for an appointment for next Saturday b/c I know I am cutting it close with my time line. My fiancee and I are getting married in June 2014 so I need to send the invited out ASAP. We got engaged in September and had our website up and our STD's in the mail right before Thanksgiving. I feel pressured to get the formal invites in the mail but I feel with a DW the STD is bigger deal than the invitation. I see the STD as a 'you're invited so look into this and book asap' and the formal invitation is sent out as a formality.

The night before.....???
GingerJ228 replied to selassie11's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
I am going to sleep in my sister's room the evening before my wedding. We have been living together for over a year so we are not really following any sort of tradition as it stands now but I want the excitement of seeing him for the first time that day while I am walking down the aisle. I think that after our welcome dinner the evening before we will say our goodbye's and won't see each other until the ceremony. -
If you have to ask if this is Kosher or not than something is probably not sitting right with you. I believe that the etiquette is that any female invite to the shower must be invited to the wedding. It does get complicated when you live in one place and your family lives in other, and so on. People get very funny about not being invited to weddings but then you worry that they will be offended or feel pressured to attend if you invite them. In your situation I think you should keep the shower small and invite only the women you are invited to your DW. The AHR is not a wedding so it's not not a loophole to invite more people to your shower. Or you can just invite everyone to your DW and let them decline. I personally think its always best to be gracious and extend an invitation and put it on them to decline. You run the risk of everyone showing up but realistically it won't happen.

Are you paying for your bridesmaids dresses?
GingerJ228 replied to jawedding's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
I am not having a wedding party but if I were to I wouldn't pay for my friends dresses nor would my friends expect me to or feel comfortable about it. If it a financial burden your bridal party they can simply decline but offer assistance in other ways. One plus abut a DW is that you can get way with not having fancy schmancy bedazzled gowns (which are super expensive) and you can find less expensive dresses for your girls to wear. I may feel this way b/c I am in my 30's and all of our friends are established professional's so our wedding is not a burden on them. You can always book a spa day and get girls massages at your resort for your bridesmaids as a thank you. -
My resort is an AI and and we are hosting a casual beach BBQ welcome dinner the evening before our wedding and after our ceremony we are having cocktail hour and a full reception with dinner, drinks and dancing. You don't have to do a full reception but have you looked into a beach BBQ type party - you could keep it casual and fun. I understand not wanting to monopolize their vacation but your guests most likely will want to celebrate you the day of your ceremony.

We will be wearing ours on the flight to Mexico. I am not taking a chance with anything that expensive. -
Trash the Dress....yes or no???
GingerJ228 replied to sojahseh81's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
I am getting married in June 2014 in Mexico and I am doing a cenote trash the dress session. I don't care about trashing my dress b/c once I return home I am probably going to have it professionally cleaned and donated to charity. I feel like we will look the best we ever will in our life (we've been working out hard) and it's a prefect opportunity to take professional, artistic pictures with me and new hubby. If you are not thrilled about "trashing" your beautiful gown just get a white slip dress or a cheaper dress. My best friend could not bare to put her wedding gown on the day after her wedding in Mexico b/c it was a huge beaded glass gown and she decided on something she had packed with her - it was a white, long, tight cotton sexy bathing suit cover up…. her picks came out AMAZING. Whatever you chose will be perfect. -
I feel like I am never going to get there! This does help. I told myself I was going to crack down after the holidays and focus more on the wedding and getting planning ideas- this site helps tremendously.

Hi! My fiancée is 2 years older than me.

I found mini Spanish phrase books for dummies and Spanish to English dictionaries to add into the OOT bags. I found them for $1 at Target so they didn’t break the bank and I think they are a really cute touch. I am going to hit up Bath and Body works during their semi-annual sale, which I believe is right after the holidays and buy some hand sanitizer to add to my bags. Also, I am going to add mini beach balls, which I will probably order from Oriental Trading

Hello! I haven’t seen too many New York (Tri-state) area brides out there. I live in NYC and just want to say hello to any other local brides.

Hi!! I am a June 2014 bride. My fiancée and I are getting married on June 8th at Now Sapphire in Riviera Maya. I am starting to plan out all of the little fun details now and am really enjoying myself. I booked my hotel stay and my honeymoon at another resort in a nearby location. I just sent out my save the dates a few weeks ago and only have about 20 ppl booked so far but a lot of our friends are telling us they will book right after Christmas.

Hi Everyone! I have been debating on how to get my supplies down to Mexico (favors, OOT bags, decorations). I do not want to carry more than I have to. I want to pack my clothes and my wedding gown - and that’s it. Has anyone shipped decorations, favors and supplies for OOT bags directly to the hotel? I know that there is no guarantee that my things won’t get held up in customs if I FedEx them to the hotel but ideally I’d like my things to arrive a week or two before I leave the country to head to Riviera Maya. I’d appreciate any thoughts and opinions on this subject. Thanks Jackie

Hello! I was wondering is someone could recommend a cigar roller in the Rivera Maya/Cancun area. I will be getting married in Sunday, June 8th at NOW Sapphire and my fiancée would like to have a cigar roller at our reception but I can’t seem to find any recent reviews for a reputable one. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

NOW Sapphire Photography HELP!
GingerJ228 replied to Julienna25's topic in Riviera Maya and Cancun Accommodations & Site
Congratulations!! I am getting married at NOW Sapphire in June and I just booked Ivan Luckie http://www.luckiephotography.com to photograph my wedding. He was recommended by the photographer (Sascha Gluck) that photographed my best friends wedding in Tulum 4 years ago - who was not available on my wedding date. Check out his site his work is fabulous. I also have a few others names that I was absolutely floored by their work. Good Luck! -

This is not a paid advertisement for her, I saw her booth at a bridal fair, picked up a brochure and contacted her from that, lol, I've actually never met her in person outside of seeing her at the fair. But she was quick and had us all set up in a short amount of time. Hope this helps Thank you so much for this information. I am going to check out this website.
