Hello all GS past brides and brides to be! So I just spend three days combing through the last 98 pages of comments and questions, thanks so much to the past brides for all their reviews. What an awesome resource. I gotta say that so far my dealings with the resort haven't been the greatest and NOT because they take a long time to reply, as so many past brides have had problems with. Their response time has been fine, Fernanda has been our contact person and she replies promptly, though perhaps due to her level of English her responses can be rather curt and perfunctory. Not necessarily the customer service a jittery bride to be planning her wedding from afar really wants, but no matter... After reading all the negative reviews about the DJ (these complaints go waaaay back to the early days of this thread YEARS ago, spanning up until it seems the last page or two of this entire thread) my biggest concern was the DJ. My fiance and I thus decided that we're going to set up all our music on our laptop via iTunes, and have CD backups, etc. I asked Fernanda about booking the sound system for our restaurant, she said that's fine but that we'd ALSO have to pay for a DJ because it's a rule. Seems arbtrary and quite fishy to me, considering brides before have been able to book the sound system but NOT the DJ. Very disappointed at what we see is a blatant cash grab by the hotel. Not to mention that they charge you $300 USD if you want to book with an outside wedding photographer, which you've got to cough up in addition to paying your new photographer and paying for their one-day pass onto the resort. Fees, fees, fees...ridiculous. No wonder the DJ and the onsite wedding photographer are so shitty (say many past GS brides on this messageboard), they really have no incentive to do a better job since their hotel has incoming brides by the balls. None of this has left a very positive taste in my mouth and our wedding is only three months out in December. Not impressed thus far...nothing seems very five-star about this experience. I hope I have better news to report after we get back.but as for now I definitely would not recommend this property to friends doing destination weddings.
