  1. Hi travelgal78, I completely understand your disappointment with Xcaret prices - I've been there to. After learning about all the complications and expenses, I was ready to give up on Xcaret, but I really loved the place. Did you considered having just your ceremony there and the reception at another place? The fee for any of the churches or the pond is around $1,600. The only other thing that you would need to get is music (add another $700). This option is available only on a weekday. I know, its still pricey, but the place is unbelievably beautiful and you will have amazing pictures and very unique ceremony that would not compare to any hotel. Search for DelSol's pictures of a wedding in the Chapel of Guadalupe (its inside the grotto). I think the name of the bride was Savy (maybe Mat can help on this one). There are also a few beach clubs around Xcaret where you can have your reception for much less than Xcaret's prices. This is an option that I went with, so feel free to ask any questions.
  2. I am struggling with the same decision. I like Barcelo Palace more as a hotel - nicer and bigger rooms, good food reviewes, nice beach, but too far from Playa. I want my guests to be able to explore Playa without paying $20 for a cab each way. But Riu's reviews seem to be mixed. Icis, did you make your decision?
  3. Hi Everyone! I am very excited to finally make my decision on the resort, reception and the ceremony locations. It has been a few tough and busy weeks. I am strongly leaning toward RIU Palace Mexico only because the rooms are newer than Riviera Maya's. I will have both, the ceremony and the reception off site, but will hold few events in the hotel. Does anyone have any info on rehearsal dinner? Can you have a semi-private rehearsal dinner at one of the restaurants? Also, does anyone know whether there is an outside vendor fee for a photographer even though the wedding itself is off-site?
  4. After looking through any and all pictures of Grand Coral Beach Club weddings that I could locate, I am completely in love with the venue. The only major concern that I have is the low music volume that they require - 68dB before 10 pm and 65 after. I would love to hear from past brides, weddingsinplaya or other coordinators whether they find it to be an issue. Can you hear the DJ playing and do people continue dancing past 12:00 am? Have you heard of instances when police showed up and caused problems? We are planning to have approximately 100 people who love to party and I would not want anything like that to ruin the night.
