  1. Completely, totally bummed. I just found out that my top choice for my wedding venue, Grand Coral, is slapping a $2000 site fee on top of any costs for the menu. I feel like I'm starting from ground zero.
  2. LOL..I will probably say something like 'your presence, not presents is desired', but my FH is not here for that at all. He wants gifts! LOL The only challenge I'm seeing is that people will want to see the pictures, and it would be nice to be able to show them those. Maybe I'll have a bon voyage party here, and then see if either of the parents wants to throw us an event in their home city afterwards...hrm..
  3. I gave the gift certificate away---I guess I should have thought of selling it! LOL Any blogs that you would suggest for entering contests?
  4. Luky-It sounds like we are getting married around the same time and strongly considering the same place! Bridal twins! In any case, we are definitely on the same page. I love the idea of spending time with everyone and then taking them off the resort for something special. I had hoped to take them on an excursion, but that's just not in the budget. Hopefully I can make up for it by having a really unique wedding with some special surprises.
  5. Ceelou-I can't believe I didn't respond to this, so sorry! This is excellent information and your reviews are so helpful! As it turns out, at least one person is planning to stay at a timeshare and some people definitely will want to stay at an AI. It looks like an AI (that comps us rooms) is going to be the most cost-effective for us because we want to cover our bridal party's rooms. However, I will definitely give people information about hotels so that they can have that option if they would like.
  6. For some reason, that sounds cheaper than an AHR! I like this idea!
  7. Rayn-I responded to you on the other 2014 thread, but congratulations again! When I was thinking about a wedding in St. Lucia, my friend recommended his friend who owns Dreamy Weddings. They plan weddings in St. Lucia and quite a few other Caribbean Islands, and the main planner seems to be well regarded. There is also Awesome Caribbean Weddings, who also get high marks for their wedding planning services. I hope this helps!
  8. Rayn- I'm so jealous! I wanted to do St. Lucia, but I couldn't figure out a way to make it work financially, Your wedding is going to be beautiful---with that backdrop, how could it not be??? I can't wait to see your plans!
  9. I'm watching my pennies as well, and have been entering contests right and left! Unfortunately, I have not had very much luck. I won a coupon for a photobooth at a bridal show, which: a) gave me a $100 or $200 discount on an item that cost hundreds and 2) does me little good given that our wedding is in Mexico! To add insult to injury, the woman that won the drawing right after mine won tungsten wedding bands! I don't love tungsten, but it's the principle of the thing!
  10. Speaking of Pinterest...I haven't made my wedding boards public, as I am planning to surprise many of my friends with announcement! However, if any of my BDW buddies want to be added to my boards, feel free to send me your email/name on Pinterest, and I will send you an invite!
  11. Jello-This is fabulous! I've been stressing about my budget and details, but you gave me a great reminder of what the important thing is. I want my guests to be happy, but they will be just fine! I loved your dress, the venue, all of it!
  12. Futurekcarrera-I am loving your save the dates! I am no good with this kind of thing, but luckily, I have a friend with a design background (and former card business owner) that has offered to do my invites as an engagement gift.
  13. I think the Omni Puerto Aventuras has an AI/non-AI option. The problem is that you can't have some guests doing one and not the other. Maybe you could get around this by creating two room bookings?
  14. I agree with you about the unposed pictures, which is why I'm going to get a photographer with a strong photojournalistic style. All of the fun stuff is going to be happening at the reception anyway--tell your friends to snap away then!
  15. Knowing my family (and his) they will definitely want an AI. This would be a LOT simpler if they didn't!
  16. I just heard from my wedding planner that they are not allowed anywhere in the RM. The challenge for me is that the resorts close to my location (Playa) are on the expensive side. So I was planning to transport them to the wedding/reception site so that we could save them money and to have a change of scenery. I will definitely keep your comments in mind!
  17. I'm planning to have my wedding offsite, but still thinking of having my guests stay here. Does anyone know if fire lanterns are allowed at NOW Jade?
  18. I definitely might ask friends and family not to take photos at the ceremony. Honestly, if you're paying a professional big bucks to capture the day to the best of his or her ability, you don't want well-meaning guests to make their job more difficult than it needs to be.
  19. Nancy- I love your dress! The shape and neckline is very flattering on you.
  20. This Living Social deal is only valid in the U.S., but I just thought I'd share. $20 for 10 and $40 for 20 (lanterns come with fuel patches). They come in white and multicolor.
  21. Woo hoo, another 2014 bride! Congratulations and let us know some details!
  22. Hrm...this is a tough one. Technically, every 'household' should get their own invite, but you really do need one invitation for your wedding pictures! How long does it take you to make each one?
