  1. Jessica-You absolutely need to strongly consider switching resorts after the wedding. If you start now, you can do your research and start looking for great deals. Nip these issues in the bud right away!
  2. Don't feel bad. I have put a deposit on my venue and wedding planner, but still need to put my deposit down for my photographer (just waiting for new bank card) and resort where people will be staying. Oh yes, and finish working with my designer friend on save the dates! But, the link above will definitely make things easier.
  3. For those of you who are still getting out save the dates and invites (like me!), here's a neat little service that I've been using: https://www.postable.com. You just send your friends a personalized link and they fill in all of the information (address, spouse name, etc.) It's so easy, and one of my friends said it was very straightforward, easy to read and very cool. (And the best part is that it's free.99!! LOL)
  4. Yep! If they don't feel comfortable with computers, they can call. I'm using this website/app that allows you to RSVP: http://www.appycouple.com/
  5. No problem for me that people are staying, because I fully intend to move to another resort! LOL
  6. Have you tried J.Crew? They're having a great sale now, with an additional 40 percent off factory items. This dress for bridesmaids is less than 90 bucks before the sale price and they have different colors: http://factory.jcrew.com/womens-clothing/dresses/Special_Occasion/PRDOVR~55996/55996.jsp
  7. I'll probably be one of those brides wearing a 'destination' dress, but to each her own!
  8. I love this! We're doing purple, aqua and silver. The idea is to have stronger and softer versions of each color (e.g. purple, lavender). However, I've been wanting something a little more rich than the aqua, and I think teal might be the ticket!
  9. From this day forward, whenever you get foolish comments such as this, please refer to the wise words here: http://awesomelyluvvie.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/GirlBYE.gif
  10. Backy (apologies for misspelling your name earlier!): I would definitely talk to your photographer and your resort planner about your timeline. They have lots of experience with this kind of thing, and that's what you are paying for!
  11. Becky- One small concern that I had when I saw your timeline is that you may be underestimating the amount of time you'll need to take photos. Even if you and your FH decide to do a first look, 20 minutes doesn't seem like nearly enough time to get the formal shots that you might want (even if your focus is more on a photojournalistic style of photography). Just my 2 cents.
  12. Welcome! There are a wealth of resources here for your wedding! I would start by doing a search for past and future brides getting married at your resort---often there is a whole thread dedicated to individual resorts. Also, please come join us on the 2014 brides thread!
  13. I have tried on some J. Crew wedding dresses, but I have no idea how they do in terms of wrinkles. I have a feeling that the heat and humidity in a tropical locale will take care of some of those wrinkles! LOL
  14. ironman-Have you seen this: http://www.groupon.com/deals/vista-print-42-new-york?sid=VWZMWTRRb0JDalFBQUZ2Sk5BZ0FBQUFs&utm_source=GPN&utm_medium=afl&utm_campaign=200003&tsToken=US_AFF_0_200003_200248_0
  15. Oh wow! I can't believe you can't get a 3-4 day package! Not everyone can take a week off of work.
  16. Definitely keep in mind the tips earlier in this thread (5% discount from American, other airlines may give discounts on the same itinerary, etc.).
  17. Um...I have less than 20 family members, 'aunties' and 'uncles' and 34 friends invited. I also am only inviting one of my first cousins. Let me show you how worried I am about that: You do YOU. And if anybody gives you grief, please refer them to this wise young lady:
  18. You should throw in a Nigerian money dance too: http://blackbridalbliss.com/2010/07/20/tie-the-knot-tuesday-camille-uchenna/
  19. A discounted wedding dress sites that I came across today: http://www.bridepower.com/
  20. ETA: I'm going to send you my photographer so you will have an idea of what kind of thing I am looking for. Everyone has different tastes and preferences.
  21. I think it is definitely worth it for some, but I had to decide what I wanted: stellar photography vs. okay photgraphy + okay videography, given my budget. I would like to have video, but amazing photography was more important to me, so I decided to go with that. Plus, I HATE the pictures I see with videographers filming right up by the altar. (Again, the quality of videographer I'd have to pay for is out of my budget.)
  22. Rayn- This is YOUR wedding. This is your HUBBY'S wedding. You invite who you please and don't worry about obligatory invites. I felt no compunction about leaving cousins off the invite list either (but feel bad I can't invite all of my friends). As the only cousin I'm inviting said when I was planning to have the wedding at home instead of abroad: "it's a cold world at $75 a plate!"
