  1. I know it's hard, but you really have to do what is right for you. Perhaps you could meet your mom a little in the middle---maybe invite a few more of the relatives that you are close to but not have 120 people come? At the end of the day, somebody is going to get offended, no matter how many you invite!
  2. Yeah, we were going to invite around 120 in hopes of getting 60, but honestly, I just want to keep costs down by inviting our nearest and dearest. So as of now, we are going to invite 100, and if we get less than our target number of 60, I am totally okay with that. That means we can do more for our guests that DO come.
  3. Yay!! I am so excited for you! I am hoping for no more than 60 or so, but who knows with destination weddings?
  4. Yay Nikki! Congratulations! We are wedding weekend twins, as I will be getting married the day before you. (We have the same goals as well---I will be so glad to get the deposits over and done with so I can do the fun stuff!)
  5. happywife-I just started a Blue Venado brides thread this morning. Come and join!
  6. More and more brides are choosing to get married off-resort, and the beautiful Blue Venado Beach Club is fast becoming a venue of choice! I am so excited about our April 2014 wedding in this venue and hope that other past and future brides will post here to share their experiences.
  7. I'm actually kind of hoping that everyone can't come so that we stay on budget (bad brownsugarbride, I know!). We'll have an at-home reception (not too expensive) for people that we don't invite/can't come to the wedding, but I am not losing a minute of sleep worrying about people that can't come. And although I have used this gif before in this thread, it never goes out of style when people start bothering you about the wedding.
  8. Them: Your wedding is too expensive for me to get to! You (in a sweet voice): I'm so sorry that you won't get to join us for our special day. We would love to have you, but understand that only the closest family and friends will be making the effort to come. We'll miss you!
  9. I definitely agree with the suggestion to find a good travel agent. Have you also thought about the Azul Beach resort? I think that has less than 150 rooms.
  10. Congratulations on your engagement! I'm not getting married in Jamaica, but Alexisinjamaica is our resident Secrets expert and can likely answer any number of your questions. I would start with her planning thread (which has fabulous DIY decorations and tips): http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/85907/alexisinjamaicas-secrets-st-james-4-27-13-planning-journal I hope this helps!
  11. Congratulations on your engagement Tiffany! Mexico is a great place to have a wedding at an all-inclusive. Due to the fact that there are so many AIs, there is enough competition to provide a variety of options at different price points. A lot of people do Cancun, but depending on where you are in Texas, heading to the Pacific coast might be a better bet in terms of cheaper plane flights. If you are considering the Caribbean, Jamaica might be another option to consider. Personally, the prices my guests had to pay were a concern, as the only AIs that I thought would provide me with the privacy that I wanted would have been far too expensive for my guests. Thus, I picked a very reasonably priced all inclusive in Puerto Morelos, and am busing my guests out for an intimate, private wedding reception in Playa del Carmen about 30 minutes away. I hope this helps! Again, welcome!
  12. Yes, a wedding at NJ is not going to cost that, even with 60 guests! Le Reve is a gorgeous property, but as Ev mentioned, it's not all-inclusive and it's not cheap! (Tell FI to stop hyperventilating!)
  13. Hi ladies: I just posted this information in another thread, but wanted to share here, as many of us are looking to save without sacrificing quality and uniqueness. I may have here before that I was going to sign up with Appy Couple, a site that lets you develop a wedding app, which syncs with a free website. I found a few coupon codes to get the site for 20 percent off, but then I found a wedding registry website that offered a code for free if you register with them. Registration was super quick, and their customer service has been great so far: http://blog.newlywish.com/index.php/get-appy/#.UfvDi234Jy8 I really think this is going to blow my guests away!
  14. Hi ladies: As you know, I love nothing better than things that are priced at FREE NINETY-NINE! I mentioned before that I was planning to sign up with Appy Couple to have a wedding website/app in one. I've found a few codes for 20 percent off, but on a whim, I decided to google free codes. Most were expired, but then I found this: http://blog.newlywish.com/index.php/get-appy/#.UfvDi234Jy8 I really think is a cool addition to your wedding that will really help to make it unique.
  15. I'm a BV April bride! I should start a thread just for us BV brides so that other brides can get information on this fantastic venue. I'm so curious to hear about plans for decoration, lighting, food, etc.!
  16. Lol..I can't remember the last time I've used an UNEXPIRED coupon! I like the idea for robes. I'm planning to get some of bridesmaids' gifts, such as robes and handkerchiefs, from the vintage store, rather than from the knot or a wedding place. Many times you can get things cheaper and of higher quality by not buying things from wedding-only stores. There are definitely exceptions though. Have you tried the website 'Light in the Box'? They have amazing prices on wedding things, including veils and gifts for your wedding party. http://www.lightinthebox.com/Popular/Personalized_Gifts_Bridesmaid_Gifts.html
  17. Thanks so much Braf! For those of us unable to make a site visit, pictures like these are incredibly helpful. Have you decided on your venue yet?
  18. Congratulations on your wedding! Rosewood is such a lovely venue, and I would have loved to have my wedding there. Thank you for posting about the vendors that you used---would you consider doing a review for some/all of them for future brides in the review section?
  19. I can't remember if this has been posted, but here is a link to discounts on plane tickets from the airlines. Savings for you and your guests! http://airtravel.about.com/od/giftoftravel/a/weddingonline.htm
  20. Hi all: I posted this on a separate thread but thought someone might actually respond on here! LOL I found the cutest little veil/fascinator on Pinterest a couple of weeks ago. However, I can't seem to find any place that is actually selling it. Does anyone have any ideas on where I could buy this, something like it, or even make it? http://fasella.tumblr.com/post/42444902095
  21. I pinned this veil awhile back on Pinterest. However, I cannot seem to find the original source that would allow me to buy. Can anyone tell me where I should start looking? Are there any Etsy shops that might carry something like this? http://fasella.tumblr.com/post/42444902095
  22. Me too--which is why I'm inviting friends over family that I don't have a relationship with! It helps that my mama is very supportive of this approach! LOL
