  1. I'm watching!! How fun! The music they're playing in the background prior to the start of your ceremony (not music there) is pretty cheesy (i.e. "Going to the chapel, gonna get married seems to be on a steady repeat), but the video quality is pretty good! Congratulations!!! You must be over the moon!
  2. So I had a great appointment with Ashley last night. She was awesome, thanks for the recommendation! I found a Maggie dress that I love. It's around $1600 in the store, and I've found two used dresses on preownedweddingdresses.com for like $650. It's a tough call. I'd love a new dress, but it's a good opportunity to cut $1000 from our budget, and I might feel slightly less worried about parading the dress through the sand in Mexico.
  3. Awesome review, thank you! It's always reassuring to hear how well the weddings go. I'm glad you really liked the food too, and those were good tips for the sports lounge and kids. Our reception is scheduled from 6-9, I think we'll extend it by an hour, but still ending it at 10 seems kind of early! I guess the adults could all go to the sports bar afterwards though?
  4. I'm actually not sure! I thought I had read somewhere they need to know how many of each entree in advance, but I'm skimming through all the documents I have now and I can't seem to find it again. I agree, it would be much easier to not have to ask in advance!
  5. We're also sending out our save the dates this week (but our wedding is a bit earlier). I'm a bit stressed/unsure about who to send them to though. We sent out the info for our group travel booking which closes this week. Disappointingly, many people emailed us and told us they couldn't attend. I was thinking of sending save the dates to them anyways and just writing on them "sorry the timing doesn't work out" or "we're sad you may not be able to join us!", but I feel like it might be a bit redundant sending them invites as well. Can anyone let me know what they did in this situation? Also for timing of invites - I think they want rough #'s at least 45 days in advance, so I was thinking of sending out the invites and asking for a reply (with meal preferences) with a deadline of at least 2 months prior to the wedding date. I'm sure there's a bit of added flexibility for people who book last minute though?
  6. Woah! I just found this thread and there's no way I can make my way through 540 pages of posts! Will do my best, but if anyone can summarize the overall experience/best sites that would be super helpful!
  7. Thanks Ladies. I think I'll try Bridal House this week one evening. I went to the Wedding Gown Shop this morning, but it kind of sucked because I had to go by myself and it just wasn't as much fun (we just moved to Edmonton from Ottawa- my entire family is in BC and my FI's family is in New Brunswick, so I don't really have anyone here to come dress shopping!). I'll see if I can drag along a coworker to come with me to Bridal House. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll see if Ashley is working evenings at all!
  8. Yes, we did have a very good experience! We booked last minute during their low season for super cheap and the resort was fairly quiet (although some of the snack bars on the Sian Ka'an side weren't always open because it wasn't very busy). I'm sure you won't have that problem in November though. We spent pretty much all our time by the ocean, so it was a bit of a pain to shuttle over from SK, but if you're staying at Akumal you won't have that problem! Still trying to find a dress though. I've been to Davids, Delica and Bridal Debut (south). Was going to try the Sherwood Park Bridal Debut and Bridal House next. Hopefully this week or next.
  9. I can send you the entire .pdf if that would be helpful? PM me your email address if you want. I'm not sure about the Columns and Arrangements (2), I'm a bit confused if that's what's on the pergola or if that's included in the Divine package. Maybe someone else can clarify for us

  11. It may have been me that said that, and I was probably wrong. 12. Thanks Shannon! That really helps, I've still got 8 months so I'll start thinking about scripts early then. I can understand not allowing swaps/exchanges, but I'll ask anyways Worst case she says no, I guess, which is what I'm expecting now! We had initially asked for the Bamboo room, but it was already booked on the date we were given. I'm sure Castaways will be fantastic, and it will probably cool off in the evening so hopefully heat won't be an issue. I hope you'll share some of your photos, I haven't been able to find many others out there yet from that space. Where will your ceremony and cocktail hour be? You're getting so close!
  13. After we decided to do a destination wedding, I didn't regret our decision at all. However we've only got one week left for our guests to get in on our group booking and our numbers aren't nearly as high we were are hoping for (we invited 166 adults, and so far we only have 16 attending, including us. We thought we would be able to get at least 40). Our packages are all quite reasonably priced (<$1,500 from every departure city in Canada, even less in the US), but perhaps cost and proximity to Christmas is an issue. I don't even know if we'll have enough people to even do a group booking at this point. I just feel so badly right now, some people email me with odd excuses that I feel I can see right through. If cost/vacation time/work is the reason why they can't attend I just wish they would say that, rather than "my 6 month old may not be able to handle the heat" or something along those lines. I have semi-thick skin, but I do take it a bit personally, and it makes me question our decision to have a DW in the first place. I know we'll have our immediate family there, which is most important to me, but I'm still feeling badly about the others. I was planning on sending out formal invites to people in a few months. Do I even bother sending formal invites to people who have already said no to me?
  14. Ahhh, I'm feeling a bit stressed by this all today. I've read that some of you have exchanged your private airport transfers for a hair and makeup trial before the wedding. This is great! For those of you who don't require the resort photographer as part of the Divine package at all (we're bringing a photographer down with us), what have you been able to exchange the photography package for? We're doing a symbolic ceremony. Do we need to write the ceremony ourselves? Or just pick certain components to personalize? I'd like to have our own vows, and perhaps a reading or two. And another kind of stupid question - is Castaways indoors? From the photos I've seen it looks kind of outdoor/indoor-ish, but is hard to tell. Hopefully it has air conditioning!
  15. Oh awesome! I was thinking they would be extra, they look beautiful on the pergola!
  16. I think those Tiffany chairs are $7 each (it's the plain white ones included in the package), and the big centerpieces near the aisle are $350 each. Not sure about the decorations on the pergola. Again, someone else might be able to correct me!
  17. Wow, 78 guests is amazing! That's a lot of love! I don't believe any centerpieces are included (and the premium ones are like $350 a piece, so they can be very pricey). Someone else might know better, but I think you're able to use the one from the ceremony/signing table and just have it moved to the reception. I've also seen photos of flowers on the pergola and think they've been able to move them in and use them as well, but I'm not clear if they're part of the divine package or not or if they cost extra.
  18. Have any of you tried using one of the T-Fal actifry's? I'm so tempted to purchase one (or wait and add it to our registry). You get the effects of deep-fried food, but only uses 1tbsp of oil!
  19. Hi Ladies! I just found this thread. We're getting married in December 2013 and I would like to lose just a few more pounds to feel and look my best on the big day. I became a lifetime WW member in 2007, but really haven't gone much since (many excuses, grad school, moving across the country). For the wedding I'm setting a new goal weight which is about 6lbs less from the lifetime goal I set. I started back at WW in March, and am going for my second weigh in this week (you only need to go once a month when you're lifetime). It's been helpful to have a coworker who is getting married in September also join WW, we're working to motivate each other! My fiance is also amazing, and he helps cook great (point-friendly!) meals. We can do this!
  20. Just noticed you're getting married at the Bahia Principe! We stayed at the Sian Ka'an side of the resort in September! Have you gone down for a site visit at all?
  21. Hi Ladies! I just found this forum, I'm newly engaged and also new to Edmonton! We moved here in the fall from Ottawa. Our wedding is on Dec 16 in the Mayan Riviera. Just trying to find a dress now!
  22. Oh, I so wish I could be there! My FI and I met in Ottawa and lived there for four years before moving to Edmonton in the Fall.
