  1. We used wedding paper divas for our save the dates and really liked them. They often have coupons though, so make sure you're on their mailing list, or order some samples and they'll include a coupon with the samples. We did the "Homespun Leaves" postcard. I think we're going to wait until after our engagement photos to do our invitations. That's IF we do invitations at all. We sent STDs (haha I laugh every time I abbreviate that) to all of our guests, and the majority of people just wrote us back in email saying they're NOT coming. I don't know if I should bother sending them an invite, send them to just those we haven't heard from, or sending invites to everyone and having to face a ton of people writing back again telling me they're not coming. I know it's not personal, DWs are expensive, but it still hurts (especially from people that I've paid to travel to their weddings for). So bottom line, I'm still debating on this one. Did you decide on a resort?
  2. Definitely go to the class! I went for a 25min lane swim at lunch and am meeting some girls to go for a 7km run after work. I'm not big on running with people, so going with these girls is definitely stepping out of my comfort zone! All this swimming and running and I think I'll have earned a (one!) glass of wine after dinner tonight
  3. I didn't get a reply from them at all! We will definitely look in to providing mugs for our guests. Where did you get yours from?
  4. I wrote about the glasses and the multiple concerns regarding their cleanliness. I also mentioned the front desk staff, the time it takes to check in and the pushy timeshare sales people. There's a lot of reviews about these three "front-end" things on trip advisor, even though I haven't seen any brides post about them here. Possibly because we all get upgraded to preferred and may not have to deal with lengthy waits, rude staff and pushy salespeople? I also flat out asked if they read their reviews and do anything to respond to the suggestions/criticisms. Will let you know if I hear back. FI thinks I am over-reacting, but I don't personally think sending them a note to let them know I'm concerned is a problem. I don't want to keep having nightmares for the next 7 months!
  5. I will send a PM to their facebook page. I don't want to post my concerns on their wall, in fear it will show up for my guests to see in their newsfeeds! I'll send one now, and recommend all brides reading this do the same!
  6. Oh my goodness. My FI's sister isn't coming at all. When we got engaged we told them we were having a DW, and she never told us she was pregnant (she knew), so we went and booked for December. She told us a few weeks later, just saying they would have an additional traveller with them. Now she's decided that the baby will be to little to travel and she's not coming at all. I don't have kids, so I don't know what it's like, but this has obviously upset me. I know it's important to my FI that his sister is there, and now she's not coming. Trying to not let it bother me, since we can't change anything now and there's nothing I can do to convince her otherwise. So now his other sister (who is attending) told us that during the ceremony she's going to try and skype in the sister back in Canada. I told her she's welcome to do this, but asked that she stands at the back, to not distract other guests. We're paying big $$ for a videographer, so the moment can be shared with everyone who can't be there anyways, and the video is going to be way better than a choppy, audio-less skype call. I'd prefer her not to skype at all, and for her to actually be there paying attention to us and present in our moment, so standing at the back was my compromise. I'm resisting from going to starbucks, and instead having 0 point cup of tea this morning. And I think myself and a co-worker are going to go do some lane swimming at lunch.
  7. Thanks for the review and congratulations! I read it last night and had wedding nightmares overnight. I wonder if there's any way to flag this glass-cleaning situation to the resort? This isn't the first time I've heard about it being a problem, people have also posted on trip advisor about this problem.
  8. Ugh, this is a similar reason as to why I had a meltdown on the weekend. Our wedding is 7+ months away, and there keeps being all this talk about AHR's. I lost it and just pulled the plug on them all together. For now I want (and need!) to focus and be excited for the people who are attending our wedding, not those who aren't. And I've been so stressed with RSVP's for our wedding that I don't even want to consider thinking about going through this again. I had my FI tell his Mom that we won't even consider thinking about an AHR until AFTER the wedding, and to please stop mentioning it to their side of the family in case it doesn't happen. We get married in December, and if we need to travel to the east coast for a reception it won't be until the summer of 2014 anyways, so there's a ton of time for my stress levels to dissipate. Plus at this moment I want to use all of my 2014 vacation time for our honeymoon instead. I felt horrible for the entire past weekend (we spent it with his sister, and just some of the conversations we had made me feel like a mean person for feeling a certain way about some wedding things), but I've been able to mostly keep my eating on track for the past few days. Today for lunch I had a Lean Cuisine since we didn't have any good leftovers, and I can't believe I used 6 WW points for it. I'm going to go for a run after work too to hopefully help me earn a glass of wine tonight!
  9. Hey! I'm Kim, a December 2013 bride and a new import to Edmonton, AB (moved here in October). I'm a lifetime member with Weight Watchers, so I only need to go in for my weigh-in at one point during the month of May (and I have to pay if I am over my goal weight). Just over 7 months until the wedding though and I'm feeling super motivated to get to where I want to be! I'm quite athletic and do a lot of running, but I'm a bit of a stress eater/drinker. There's been a few wedding-related things lately that just have caused me to have some mini-meltdowns (including this afternoon as we were driving back from Calgary - I'm having a glass of wine as I write this!) I will however limit myself to one glass and start counting every single point I eat or drink again tomorrow!
  10. Hi there! We're both in Edmonton and getting married a month apart! I've been going to Weight Watchers for the past two months to try and get down to my goal and I've found that their program works really well if you follow it! My weakness is totally wine. I haven't read through this entire thread, but I'll follow it and we can try and help each other out!
  11. If anyone's interested, here's a link to two videos I found from weddings at the Now Jade! I love these! I can't figure out how to link them specifically, but on this page there's NJ videos for Kevin + Shannon and David + Kristy. http://limelightstudios.ca/wedding-films/
  12. Oh no. I'm really sorry to hear the experience picking it up wasn't great. Is there anything you can share from your experience to help others avoid the same problem (other than avoiding the store?) Regardless of the experience in-store, I hope your dress is exactly how you want it and you'll feel perfect on your wedding day!
  13. Our cocktail hour will be in the orange lounge. I've seen a few photos of the space, but only have saved a few on my computer. The first photo I randomly found on a google images search, but am guessing it's of a cocktail hour. Guessing that they add high tables that are covered in a white cloth for everyone. I believe that it overlooks the area by the fountain in one of the courtyards.
  14. The resort we selected includes a private dinner in the wedding package for 25 guests. Their wedding packages that offer this were $2300 or $3000 (depending on the package). They have several different options for private dining areas, and they will also block off a private area for a cocktail hour for your guests while you'll likely be taking photos. If you have more than 25 guests you do need to pay extra, as I imagine you do at other resorts as well. This extra price varies depending on the menu you've selected. I think it's around $60/pp extra for the one we picked. If you're considering the Now Jade at all, I can send you the budget breakdown spreadsheet that I've been using. I think we're looking at around 18k, but we're also paying around 6k combined for a photographer and videographer, so even with extra people I don't think it would be a problem for you to come in under your budget (regardless of the resort you choose).
  15. What month are you hoping to get married? We found that makes a huge difference in prices. Originally we wanted April, but prices were way higher than what we wanted for our guests (all around $2000 for 5 star resorts in the Mayan Riviera), so we ended up selecting December, and although it might not be the best time for everyone that we've invited, it worked for us (I have to keep telling myself that we're who matter most and not worry about those who can't come). Prices were from $1300-$1500 from every departure city in Canada (including all taxes) with Westjet Vacations. I think we have guests coming from Vancouver, Kelowna, Edmonton, Ottawa, Moncton and Halifax. I'd recommend steering clear of Sunwing or Air transat and going with Westjet or Air Canada for your guests. Although they may be a bit cheaper, I have heard some horror stories of flights being cancelled last-minute with the charters.
  16. I saw this one and thought of you! The sample photos they have posted look really nice, might need to contact them for pricing info though. http://edmonton.kijiji.ca/c-services-wedding-Destination-wedding-Mexico-wedding-photography-W0QQAdIdZ461352424QQfeaturedAdZtrue
  17. Have you looked at bringing a photographer down from here? We contacted a few from Edmonton, and most charge only travel costs, or travel plus like $500. We ended up going with a photographer from the Okanagan. Prices are comparable with what is offered in the packages for sale down in Mexico, plus you usually get an at-home engagement shoot included in the package price.
  18. I'm going with the Karena Royale. I found the dress here in Edmonton, but bought it pre-owned from a seller in the US for much, much less than what it retails for in Canada. I think I'm going to have the neckline pinched slightly to make a very soft sweetheart, and I might swap the sash out for a sparkly belt. But I haven't decided yet. Can't wait until it arrives!
  19. Those are awesome photos, thanks for sharing! All taken onsite at NJ, I assume?
