2013 Trends post here!

love the bright colors in the first two! -
in Hawaii, it's not uncommon to have a planner, however, it's not called a "planner" it's a coordinator. they help you do things that you can't whole being far away.. my girl will help me with finding a place, getting flowers, cake, setting up, the day of the wedding & all that. but i found her because the company also does photography & is one of the best on the island! for places that are big DW, i'm sure they have the same thing down in the Carribbean! http://www.mexicoweddingdirectory.com/rivieramaya/weddingplanners.htm http://www.weddingsrivieramaya.com/ look under services.. hope this helps!

Can you ask her what will happen if you do this & it does not work or you don't like it? like if she won't charge you? or maybe use an old strapless, have her try it, see how you feel, & then do it with a good bra? it might take longer to do, but it might make you feel better about this. I, too, have a maggie, and my top is corsett & see through & am nervous what I am going to do! especially because where i got my dress is out of business so now i need to find someone to alter it... yikes! keep me posted

why not make it? -
Etiquette: It is more appropriate to organize a fun event to pay for a wedding than to directly ask family and friends for money, unless the event is raising money for one specific aspect of the event. For example, asking guests not to bring gifts but placing a jar at the Jack and Jill party for donations to the couple’s honeymoon fund is okay. Asking guests to come to the party with extra bottles for the reception so that the couple can provide an open bar might also work. Asking for cash to pay for the wedding ringsis not appropriate – these items should be paid for by the wedding couple or their families. Likewise, raising money for anything considered overly extravagant (an ice sculpture, release of doves, etc) would be in poor judgment – it’s important to remember that attending a wedding can already be quite expensive: guests often have to pay for travel expenses, lodging, appropriate attire, the wedding gift, etc. Jack and Jill Fundraiser More recently, the Jack and Jill party has been used as an event to raise money for the couple’s wedding expenses. Today many couples pay for their own weddings rather than receiving a budget from the bride’s parents. The maid of honor and best man (or some other family/friend) organizes the event and all proceeds go towards the wedding (or honeymoon) budget. In some cases, the bride and groom organize the event themselves. Examples: A casino night, a sports tournament (golf, foozball), or a poker tournament. Other options: guests pay a flat fee for drink tickets and a chance to win door prizes at a bar or organizers put a package together for an outing (refreshments, chartered bus, tickets to a concert or game) and build in a profit margin. Popular games for fundraisers are: casino-style games (with play money and prizes for the biggest winners), 50-50 draws, and coin tosses. Wine lotteries can also raise a lot of money (if friends and family are all wine drinkers).

Did you visit your destination before your wedding?
aleedoc17 replied to tristanc's topic in Florida Weddings
I HAVE NOT visited my reception nor do I have the time or money to prior to the wedding, however, we are leaving August 12 & the wedding ins Aug 17, so my dad might plan a tasting (though it's still too late to change anything) BUT I have been to Hawaii (my general location) many times. & I have stayed at the hotel 2-3 times. I'm going by reviews & suggestions, pictures & my gut. I think if you could go, even for a day, go. If there's a way to get overtime or pick an extra shift you should. I know I'm stressed about it as is & feeling blind is making things worse, however it's a DW, so even some of the bad things I have thought of, that may happen, my other events & things going on will make up for it! Make the best of the situation. Have little back ups. GOOD LUCK -
& CONGRATS! I've been obsessed with Hawaii since I went when I was about 9. I've been 3 more times since & since I gave up my dream to go there for college I just knew I couldn't give this up (although for the first 3-4 months of engaged life I was going to have it in Philadelphia) I picked Maui because it's our favorite island & has the most to do & we love the resort I picked Gannon's after changing my mind of the location on this island. To give you a little info about Maui, the whole island is beautiful, but the South side is better for pictures & special occasions, however, our resort is on the West side. I was going to have the Wedding on the West side as well, but I changed to South after seeing pictures & reading other people's opinions. I guess it depends what in your heart. Where have you been? What's in your budget? What is your style (I'm a Hawaiian girl, without the blood- from my bed room (at my parents house) to my favorite colors & flowers) Pick a general area & study the hell out of pictures & reviews! GOOD LUCK

BOTTLE OPENERS
aleedoc17 replied to aleedoc17's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
thanks! i'll check it out! -
I need help finding cheap, small minimum, bottle openers.. TROPICAL style (palm tree, tiki god, surf board, even not a tropical item but bringt colors, esp if someone goes on with me).. they have Corona palm trees which are cute & then some where you customize, but the min is like 250. I'd ask someone to go in on it with me, but that's nearly impossible, unless we just have a cute wedding saying with no location or names? Anyone have ideas? I wouldn't mind if they're cheap enough where I need to buy 100 min, because i'd give them out to my friends that didn't come (or regulars, because I'm a bartender) but other then that, i don't want to spend too much money..

OOT Bags - Need Help on the Kits
aleedoc17 replied to sillafeliz's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
they have aloe vera LOTION *but may be a little bit more, but maybe buying bulk & distributing into bottles yourself is cheaper?*, we love using that!! however i'm still putting aloe in the bags, it was $1 at Target & it was tropical & cute, bright colors. Aloe is good before the burn, like before the RED burn.. you don't have to put it, because like my FI says, don't waste money on things you KNOW you're guests know they will bring or buy (sunscreen lotion & aloe) but I didn't listen (when do i ever listen to him?!) PS- Just "food for thought" I would say you could get away without the electro lites but i think it's really a good idea.. & with the propel single packets you can get them for .10-.20 cents a packet at Walmart.. maybe even cheaper if in bulk (Big Lots, just watch expiration dates) -
smart idea! I started with fuschia/magenta & turquoise but when my MOH & Matron went to look at dresses, we loved the coral.. beach colors need to be bright.. so as long as they're happy, I am too! I'm sure i'll still through my original colors in there somewhere (i mean heck, my save the dates & invitations are my original colors!)

OOT Bags - Need Help on the Kits
aleedoc17 replied to sillafeliz's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
it's sort of a survival kit, but more for the night of/after the wedding hangover kits: propel or gatorade single packets where you add it to water 2 pack of advil/tylenol maybe a 2 pack of bepto. maybe adding cheap sunglasses or those sleeping face eye things (if cheap enough) -
Congrats! I am getting married on Maui, in August of 2013... IMHO here are my thoughts: 1. Ritz Carlton - pricey, in it's name alone, if this is where you thought of having it. I agree with Vikeco, "cookie cutter" at hotels, but some are very pretty. Ritz might be where you want to have your honeymoon but I'm not sure it would be resonable for your guests (unless your guests have a big budget or the Ritz gives good discounts) 2. Most wedding coordinators on the islands are also photographers & help you with ceremony, certificate, minister, flowers, cakes, your hair & make up, dresses, tuxs, whatever it is you need. ESPECIALLY when you are not on the islands, or visiting before hand. 3. A paradise dream wedding was pretty decent in price, I'm in love with the photographers & I have read many great reviews! Look on their site for ideas, for locations, prices, it might help (it helped me!) 4. My budget is more then yours, however, instead of the grooms' parents paying for a rehearsal dinner (because we have a coordinator the day of & do not need one) I am using some of my budget for a luau, which is a huge chunk of change, but that's not something you have to do. I just real that having my guests coming from the East Coast of USA & flying 7,000 miles in 12 hours for $thousand$ of dollars was a nice thank you gesture. (just a thought for you to do an excursion if budget allows it) or do a simple brunch the day after the wedding, as are we, or maybe a "pool party" for all your guests (don't forget your welcome bags!) 5. Weddings in Hawaii are not like the states, where it's $150-$200 a head for apps, dinner, alcohol, cakes & treats. it's "cheap" for dinner $40-$100 a head, but it's dinner. everything else is "alla carte" keep this in mind 6. One "mistake" I am doing, however, is having our hotel on one side of the island & the ceremony on the other, which means we pay for transportation (but my dad wanted to do that anyway so no one drinks & drives in a place they don't know, which I'm fortunate to have a father who thought about that on his own, rather then me being the needy bride! ha) 7. HECK YES DO IT! Even if you're hesitant, this is your day, YOURS! I worried & worried about my grandmothers not coming & friends & family, besides my grandmothers (because of extreme health issues) those who mean the most, are coming, because they know my obsession with Hawaii & know this is a once in a lifetime thing, at a place that is typically on everyone's bucket lit (not to mention, most people turn this into their vacation) If you & your FI want this, do it! Get a little overtime, pick up an extra bar shift (because I bartend at night that's what I'm doing to make sure I do this right) Eat out less... 8. GOOD LUCK I have plenty other suggestions & "ideas" but I don't want to keep babbling if it's not helping you... LMK if you want more ideas or to pick my brain! Keep us updated what you decide!

Thank you! We actually put two different ribbons on there together & used two-sided tape to keep them together. the pink was pretty clear with that sparkly look & since i loved the two colors together, we thought, why not together!?! Hopefully I'll have the invitations in the next few weeks! She sent me a proof, but that was very minor detailed & much more info has been added! Thanks for the comment
